  • Hello everyone!
I've been reading Whateley stories since 2009, so I can't say I'm exactly new around here, but I spent most of my time on the forums lurking quietly in the shadows. I did hangout on the Whateley RP IRC Channel for a while, so a couple of you might recognize me from that.

I thought I might take the opportunity to get a bit more involved and maybe get a fanfic together if I manage to stay focused for a while.

  • Well pull up a chair and let me tell you a story about Jeb.

    Sorry wrong story.

Make yourself at home stranger and feel free to tell us (as in those running the site) what you think. Don't be shy.

What is - was. What was - is.

  • Greetings, fellow former lurker. Everyone here is friendly and welcoming, just follow the few rules and everything will be fine. And stay away from Jobe's discard pit, last guy who got to close lost a leg.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

The Whateley RP IRC channel, huh? I keep hearing mention of that from time to time, and it kind of makes me wish I'd found Whateley sooner. Sounds like the kind of thing I'd have been interested in.

I'm pretty sure they're still around. I haven't been a regular in there in several years, but doing a quick search shows that people are still hanging out in the channel. If you join #whateley-ooc, you could probably ask more.

People were always pretty friendly when I was there and it was a great time. I never really meant to stop going there, but getting a full time job seemed to rob me of my free time. I've finally managed to rid myself of the frequent 70 hour work weeks though, so I'm trying to get back my non-work related life.

Their description still links the rules to a post on the old forums, so it doesn't look like there is a good overview of rules anywhere at the moment though.

  • IRC can consume your life very quickly. It's still the only thing I know of worse than MMO's.

    <cough> Facebook </cough>

...especially given the group of acquaintances I seem to spend the most time interacting with over there are the BCTS crowd...

Facebook is merely a tool. Blaming it for those who misuse it is like blaming axes for the existence of axe murderers. If people want to ignore you, they will do so whether they have access to Facebook or not. Indeed, I've been successfully ignoring people since well before Facebook existed. Why, just this weekend I managed to ignore an entire room full of extended family members and their friends by burying my nose in The Integral Trees by Larry Niven.

One advantage in ignoring people with books instead of Facebook (besides books actually being, you know, interesting) is that it creates a better impression since a lot of people are prejudiced against technology. If I'm on my laptop (reading Whateley, for example) I tend to attract a lot of snide remarks about "kids these days". If I'm reading a physical book, on the other hand, the comments are more often of the "I wish my kids would be more like that" variety.

I am the kernel that pops in the night. I am the pain that keeps your dentist employed.
