  • I've been reading the stories for a while now, but the fresh jumping off point of the Gen 2 stories is letting me wrap my head around the whole world everyone's been creating all these years!

The new batch of students are really relatable somehow.

I couldn't hold back any more, I had to start engaging with the community.

  • Why does no one do what I did and just appear out of the ether one day. No one questions it. Though it does beg the question if others have been doing it without my notice.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • Well, I for one definitely popped up out of nowhere without introduction. But that was back in the old forum where we didn't have a specific "Post an intro!" section. If I'd joined now instead, I'd see this section, get the impression that I'm expected to introduce myself, and then decide not introduce myself anyway because that's just how I am... but it's easy to see why other people feel the need to do it, given this section.

Of course, people did this in the old forum too, even without the dedicated section. It wasn't as common as it is now, but it still happened frequently enough. So what I think it boils down to is manners in conjunction with differing perceptions of what message boards are. Introducers probably see joining a message board as analogous to sitting down at a table with a small group of people they don't know yet -- it's polite to say hello and tell them their name, even if they have a name-tag on. Whereas to me, joining a message board feels more like walking into a new bar. It would feel pretentious of me to climb up on a table as a complete nobody and try to introduce myself to everyone present (unless I was advertising my services or about to start singing or something).

Neither way is right or wrong. Different strokes for different folks.

Anyway, welcome to the fray, Katssun.

  • Hello! I noticed you replying to IDTWIKA (what a mouthful) and thought to myself; they are probably new. Glad to see I was right, and therefore less insane than I could have been.

Glad to have you, and welcome to the party.

  • As the others have already said, welcome and we're glad to have you be a part of the community. Also glad that you find our G2 kids so relatable, that makes me day. :)

@Kettlekorn: Huh, I never really thought about viewing the forums in different ways like that, although it makes perfect sense. I think I tend to view this one at least more like a book club of sorts, since it's dedicated primarily to the stories. So that's more in line with the small group of friends gathered around a table, and explains why I felt having a place for introductions was just the natural thing to do.
