Independence... days?

Lots of explosions after hours in Sacramento this week. You'd think that in a downtown area of the capital city in a state that had major fires consuming millions of acres of forest in the past year; that there wouldn't be quite so much need to set things on fire and hear that big bang. But no. Small animals were traumatized. Vets had their PTSD levels tested. Other than a few small rockets launched in the theatre complex while I was working, I saw none of it. But I certainly heard the noise. The enormous 'boom' of a large firecracker set off in a parking garage next door, the sound contained and echoing madly in the enclosed concrete spaces... a number of car alarms triggered for added effect. The 3 a.m. sound of something around black cat sized set off in the apartment building next to mine, immediately followed by a string of of swear words and running feet. I'm not sure if that was burnt fingers or carpets, but it didn't sound quite large enough to take off any body parts. Don't get me wrong... I love pyrotechnics. I'm just not too thrilled about drunks and young kids setting them off with bic lighters because they don't know any better. Trained professionals? Or at least someone taking them as a potential threat, please.
My Fourth of July woes aside, it's a good week for a story about freedom... something E.E. Nalley's newest contribution to non-canon Star Wars hits on. You'll find it over in the Star Wars section of the Library... or through the quick link panel for Newest Non-Canon Stories. It's titled "Through the Eyes of A Sith". Enjoy and comment!
