Question Describe a book in six words

Arcanist Lupus wrote: I just saw a game on facebook that I thought would be fun to play here.
The idea is pretty much exactly as stated - you must describe a story that you like using exactly six words. Then other people guess what story it is.
For example:
"Boy gets bison, boobs, and angst" would be a description for the first Kayda story.
Hey! I do MORE than just angst! Sometimes. Maybe. Once-in-a-while.
For Riddle of Sappho, would it be something like
"Girl gets laid, jailed, and acquitted"

No, HELL no, yes, no, no, no. Note that I'm being a bit liberal with the categories -- Not all of those are books. There might be Internet fiction (I mean, otherwise how could we include Whateley?) and comics (which are books, sort of.) But none are movies or TV series, at least not in their original form -- there might be adaptations, though.Phoenix Spiritus wrote:

Note that I'm amending one of them -- On reflecting, I figured out that "country" wasn't the appropriate noun; "region" is more like it.

So here are a handful of submissions, most of which should be fairly easy (to compensate for the quantity?!)
Starting off with the Whateleyverse:
Two girls rescue thralls, destroy base.
Girl grows venomous fangs, loses hair.
Character eaten, takes incredible journey, survives.
One character becomes two times two.
Character forgets to carry the one.
Mage gender-flipped by cursed book.
And a few not:
Attends poetry recital after home destroyed.
Lovers from rival families commit suicide.
Aristocrat meets witches, then kills rivals.
Bloke builds a big floating zoo.
No, I haven't read either of this pair and don't intend to!
We sparkle in sunlight, not fry!
This tale's not written in colour.
As for these, they're behind you! (Oh, no they're not! Oh, yes they are!)
Cursed: minor injury causes lengthy coma.
Bloke sells family cow, avoids Big Bad.
Rags to riches: sisters mutilate feet.

Mage gender-flipped by cursed book - I was thinking of a fanfic for this one... "Naked mage converts air to stones" would also be apt...
Attends poetry recital after home destroyed - still pending solving, oh, and this takes place in the opening couple of chapters.
Lovers from rival families commit suicide - Romeo and Juliet
Aristocrat meets witches, then kills rivals - Macbeth (or The Scottish Play if you're superstitious)
Bloke builds a big floating zoo - any one of about a dozen flood myths, notably Noah. While the original's a few chapters in a book, there have undoubtedly been many plays written based on the tale...
We sparkle in sunlight, not fry! - Twilight
This tale's not written in colour - 50 Shades of Grey
Cursed: minor injury causes lengthy coma - Sleeping Beauty
Bloke sells family cow, avoids Big Bad - Jack and the Beanstalk
Rags to riches: sisters mutilate feet - Cinderella (some versions of the tale have the Uglies cutting off parts of their feet to try and fit in the shoe). An alternative (based on a sign you can actually buy): "New shoes can change your life!"

Yes, while it could apply to many animes/mangas, Usagi / Moon started the trend (although technically Minako / V / Venus got there first) - something noticed by the animators, who lampshaded it with a villain (one of many who hung around far longer than in the manga): "Hey, have you ever thought it was embarrassing to jump around in such a short skirt?"

That sounds about right, although the godlike entity doesn't show up until the last couple books. The first couple books are about slightly more mundane (although still magical) threats.

I had to check the plot on Wiki to write this (only being familiar with a couple of excerpts from the orchestral suite), but essentially: Princess cursed to be a swan by night, can be broken by true love from someone who's never loved another, but the potential suitor is tricked by the evil mage distracting him with someone shapeshifted to look exactly like the princess's true form. They eventually break the curse by jumping into the pool and drowning, so they can be together in the afterlife.

@Malady - Yup, it is Pretty Cure. Haven't watched it myself, but when searching for animes (with accompanying manga versions to qualify for the title) other than Moon, I discovered the extensive franchise and assumed it would be relatively well known.

Well, you were using the very first season-thing, when it wasn't as widely known...
Hm... Might as well contribute another one. This should be easy? It's more recent than PreCure anyways.

> Two war orphans shaking up Japan
A bit of clarification: the war where they were orphaned is the Cambodian Revolution under Pol Pot; the Japan they shake up is during the Nineties.
> Unlucky boy engages alien demon princess
I REALLY can't believe nobody figured this one out yet. C'mon. It's EASY. OK, clarification: "engages" as in "becomes engaged to."
> Country detaches itself, becomes floating island.
This is the hardest one. I'm going to give an enormous clue: the author got a Nobel for a different work. This cuts it down to what, about one hundred writers?
> Character instructs author in publishing politics
You want more clues? I'll give more clues. The writer of this piece is one of the Whateley Canon. And the name or the character was reused in a different piece of fiction by the same writer.
> Thief stars off-Broadway hit show
This one I ALSO cannot believe nobody figured out. It's a MAJOR fanfic, really well-known.

I do find it amusing that I expected people to get this one wrong, but I didn't expect them to pick James and the Giant Peach.
I'll leave that one for now, but here are the solutions to my others:
Mercenary and were-lion kill things together. - Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews

Yeah, it's June 29th, 1999. It's a children's book, with more pictures than words, but I like it a lot. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was the red herring - it never ceases to amuse me that I know of two children's books about giant food falling from the sky.Dreamer wrote:
