  • Just finished rereading the first book, and then reading these. My first reaction was that this is an awesome story. It looks like you have a lot more you intend to tell. If so, I must say, please get on with it! If not well these stories are certainly awesome!

Part 2 should be up by this weekend. It's just taking more editing than I expected on the third (or is it fourth?) pass, erk!

    Anyway, should be soon! :)

  • May the light be with you.

Was that intentional? I burst out laughing when I read that despite the seriousness of the scene.

So we finally get to see Jordan's wings, and the scene when it happened was awesome!

Poor guy who tried to trap her. He really didn't know what he was dealing with.

Did she just do something impossible? Does she now have a personal angelic servant? Can't wait to see if he returns with (hopefully) good news.

All in all: I'd say this was a badass chapter.

It was pretty sad hearing how Justin couldn't have kids because his wife was infertile, and now Jordan herself is infertile preventing any kids this time either.

  • As an Atheist I normally don’t find stories with any religious contact enjoyable BUT your story is simply AWESOME B)
Erisian your story telling is very powerful with so much insight into the complex nature of us human beings :) and nicely nuanced in places giving a whole new meaning to “depth of character” for me :)
I’m really looking forward to the next instalment B)

Funny story, it's not just my username. I happen to be an atheist with "angel" literally in my name. I find it kind of ironic. Also, as my sig implies, I don't exactly consider myself "angelic" anyways.

Jordan may not be the only one and she may very well be the actual daughter of Lucifer.

  • Well that was Stunning, I got so engrossed in reading part 4 that I did not realise it’s 4:30am here in the UK
I like the way you portray Jordan as a bit insecure, uncertain and still getting used to being a girl and the next minute, when Jordan clearly recognises an injustice, as a being of immense power and singleminded purpose :)

  • Now that I've actually finished, holy shit; don't mess with Jordan.

Hot damn. Time and space just can't keep those two separate at all. Thousands or millions of years in the past, Aradia and Siabh were closest companions. Now, Justin/Jordan and Danielle were close family. Through some twist of fate coughSorencough, these 2 duos have merged.

It looks as though she literally is Aradia, daughter of Lucifer. The main discrepancies are Aradia's hair was gold while Jordan's is red with gold streaks, and Aradia was said to be unable to fly, which Jordan can and has done. It's also been mentioned that Jordan seems to bear a resemblance to Gabriel with several people mistaking Jordan for her. I wonder how that fits in.

Uncle Azreal, huh? And Aradia might be a seraph? That's not comforting.

  • I've read all twelve posted parts, that is the first book and the second book that this constitutes. My reaction at the end of part 6 of Light's Promise, is please, please keep going! That is if you are at all able to. But if that would be too greedy of me, then my next reaction is: Wow, what an awesome tale you've woven so far!

  • I just got out of bed to post something I found rather worrying. Lucider may be Aradia's father, but her mother is Artemis/Diana.

    FERAL IS ARADIA'S MOTHER!

    Ewww no! lol

... Although the thought of Azrael, standing there in his dark cloak and holding a scythe, looking down at his own stomach suddenly oddly distended and going, "I appear to be pregnant. This is hereby Judged to be ridiculous. Amen." had me trying hard not to spit tea across my keyboard... :silly:

Oh, and Anne... if you've only read the WhatIF/Looking for Feedback versions, there were a few new scenes and changes put in when editing the whole thing and publishing (with two more parts to go!). :)

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!

  • I finally read ahead thru to Part 6 this weekend. :)

I like the way that "Light's Promise" builds upon what was established in "Into The Light" and still leaves room for future stories. At some point, I'm sure I'll want to re-read the story to see what I missed in the first read.

  • Well that was an unexpected turn. Looks like some action coming up.

    Universal translation is so useful.

Something I thought of after my previous post is how it seams like Jordan and Danielle form a fire and ice duo. I kind of want to see if they'll put their powers together at some point, but it looks like that will have to wait until they get back.

That speech should have given the mother of all retroactive stage-frights. It can't be easy delivering a speech to an assembly of gods, even if it was thousands of years in the past.

  • 3 angels and a lawyer walk into a dream...

A very good end to book 2. It managed to tie up loose ends, revealed Jordan's True Name, restored Danielle, and set the stage for book 3. Bravo.

I had a suspicion that Jordan wasn't literally Aradia when it was revealed that Aradia had gold hair and no wings in contrast with Jordan's red hair and gold wings. I will go back to an earlier speculation that Jordan, Amariel, is likely equally related to Aradia as to Gabriel. A consequence is that Feral is only her grandmother rather than her mother.

Alal mentions that Azazel tried to kill her sister. Is she referring to Amariel? Is Soren an angel himself? Find out next time!

A good stopping point, but will still be excited when book 3 releases.

Once again the contrast between Jordan as a human to Jordan the Angel is very compelling :)

One could say he's always been close at hand to Amariel/Jordan for quite a while now.

To the one burning within crimson flames as it fell into realms of eternal twilight, the Archangel Camael sent a final message:
    “Let them come and see.”

  • I waited for this story to be complete, but for some reason was unable to sit myself down to read it. Now I have just spent 6.5 hours riveted to my seat reading it to its completion.

What a wonderful experience it has been!

I love the way you have a sense of just how long to spend on a particular scene. I love the amazing breadth of the ideas presented, and the characterisations (sometimes even just from one sentence of dialogue) that make you absolutely connect with even minor characters [ I'm thinking here of the two-finger salute :) ]. The only criticism I have is that it seems like Whateley has been in a way relegated to be Jordan's "support", and not as much an entity in its own right. That being said, I love the arc with Fionna, as that is one in which we see Jordan's shortcomings in her rushing in headlong and then not knowing how to save the situation, and Fionna emerging as an equal (or perhaps even more clever than Jordan). Also, Jordan's supporting characters are fantastic. Brendan's reluctance to be an "agent" of God contrasts so nicely with Jenna's willingness. Finally, the sheer huge scope of your stories thus far is just... delectable. Whateley is a universe, and the stories we read should make it feel that way, rather than like an isolated bubble of largely interrelated incidents.

On a different level, I must commend you on the wonderful reverence towards the divine that is evident throughout this work. I have no idea whether you are theist or atheist, but the universal principles of religion shine through constantly. Also, as a Hindu myself, I can tell you that, though your story mentions Hinduism only in passing; your ideas on the fallibility of "gods" and "goddesses" fits in quite well with Hindu mythology.

    Well done. Well done.

  • Thank you for reading, and for such kind comments!

The ideas for the angelic mythos (and a few of the characters) are ones I cannot take sole credit for, as they were developed over many years of gaming (with one friend in particular) and also general discussions with a tight group of friends. They've been pushing me to write this all into a story for too many years, and after a literal 'what if it was in the Whateley U' conversation with Motley a year ago, stuff sorta spilled out onto the page and kept going.

The scope is definitely wide... and will get a lot 'wider' before it's all done. A lot will happen away from Whateley Academy as a result, so your criticism about the school being more 'support' in book two is valid as it was more an anchor and base for Jordan (and Danielle) and likely to continue to be such as things unfold. Given a desire to not interfere with canon if possible (hence being set between Gen 1 and Gen 2 time-wise), major action is not likely at the school itself. It could happen, but...

For now though, it's still Jordan's home. After all, that's where her kitty is. :)

  • From what I can tell, it seems that Nick is the Grigori that is referred to, as he is addressed as 'Barakiel' in part 5 of the story. This suggests that he is an angel incarnate, like Tamiel.
