Question Heal Thy Self Discussion

This is my first attempt at writing a Whateley-style story so I'm looking forward to any comments, suggestions, etc you might have regarding it. I only discovered the paragraph spacing didn't translate from MS Word after I posted so I know it may look a bit cramped. Hopefully I can have that issue corrected in future postings.

My notes:

Main point of suspension of disbelief is how Harold and Jackie have any income at all. And if there were other deaths of Harold and Jackie's foster children, wouldn't someone have said something?

Can someone help me think of a justification, if Paradox doesn't provide? Or just find one, and see how he/she resolves the possibly-not-an-issue.

But then again, this is a crapsack world. I shouldn't bring my logic into this??


And that Ashley's sex is hidden for so long. But, then again, it's not really important?

And I'm overly harsh. This is really quite good! I'm wanting to see how everyone's plans go with the other planners interfering, how that business card will be used, etc.

A nice pro-mutant atmosphere, even the MCO are neutral, if possibly the slightest bit anti?

The Exploit Healer plot point, I'm wanting to see how that differs from Kerry.

Foster parents get a stipend to help support the children, the unfortunate truth is that sometimes they use it for themselves.

I'd think such a stripend doesn't go above $1000, and isn't enough for 2 people? But perhaps there's other things going on, and stuff.

I was trying to avoid addressing this because I didn't want to take away anything from the story, but how the foster parents made their money and how much they made was immaterial to the story. It didn't serve to drive the plot other than knowing they were quite low class as far as money goes..

Makes sense. ... I don't know how I got the impression that they don't have jobs... ... Ah. I think I think that having jobs means you have some level of finances so that the income should be better than it seems, but blowing on the money on beer and stuff is a possibility, as long as the thing they blow it on fits. Like, blowing it on clothes doesn't fit, 'cause there should be tons of clothes.

And hey, I guess they aren't background checked enough, so they could be part-timer + slackers or something, to justify the low wages.

And how Harold and Jackie got together, given the type of people they are, is a mystery for the ages.

@Paradox - How much do you already have written? The pace seems really quick?

There is one more book to complete this particular story, however I am putting together ideas on how to continue it at a later date.

And now I've got the thought that Harold and Jackie are banking their money, and deliberately living in poverty or whatever to minimize expenses.

Perhaps they're just living together for the ability to adopt kids, and so get more money to bank...

Weird thinking of a couple of sadists or whatever, (probably not sadists?) with a sensible financial plan...

I've had the story already finished, I was just waiting to get it posted until I realized *head smack* it was my responsibility to post it here. I wasn't quite sure which part of the timeline it would really fit in with so I left it ambiguous, at least until I can get a better feel of which timeline it feels most appropriate in since the other stories I have rolling around in my head will take place within the same timeline, for now anyway.

In any case she will have to learn to limit herself when she gets to Whateley, but all in all, I don't think that she will be able to disagree with the physical education aspect of it. That of course doesn't mean she'll exactly AGREE with it either.
