  • I get why the school is raiding the MCO or whoever else they're going after to save kids, but is it to the point in G2 that the school is basically saying 'F it, we're doing what's right and f the fall out it has on mutant good press.'?

  • The thing is, Whateley has access to some serious resources, especially if their target has violated Whateley Neutrality. For the threat to warrant a REACT strike team, I seriously doubt that they are going to be facing a PR problem.

Besides, the WU has a lot of powered individuals other than mutants. They'd be easy to pass off as terrorists in power armor, or some such thing.

I got the impression that the "young woman" was older than Whateley age, perhaps a former student, or just a mutant that was rescued. In her twenties, not her teens.

Also remember that this is even going on in Gen 1. Eldritch was ready to go rescue Diamond's brother if necessary and had mentioned previous rescues had been done.

  • Or maybe it's a follow-up to the rescue of Donna -- if there are clues that there are more people captured in that dimension (or other dimensions for that matter), whenever they get a fix in one and the conditions are favorable for a going over, Whateley mounts a mission. Carson started it, and it continues even without her.

Or (and I really think this has a very low probability) this young woman is a clue into whatever happened to the Whateley staff.

That was my initial thought too, but it doesn't really fit with British SAS being involved.

I feel like the quick hug mentioned between Nikki and Caitlin might be important - could they be rescuing a Kimba? Maybe one of the Outcasts? Otherwise, my thought might be Seraphim - wasn't there mention of that trio being broken up?

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Given that Nikki and Caitlyn combined to create the portal, I think it was interdimensional.

I was more curious about Imp being part of it.

  • Imp is the perfect scout. She knows how to assess situations. Her abilities/skills fit in perfectly with that role.

  • I figured the 3 maidens broke up more because they all had lives they wanted to get on with than any kind of trauma or tragedy. They graduated, basically. It probably takes an insane amount of money to pay for all of them to get together to make something anymore, ya know?

As for the raid... my first impression was that maybe she was a student the MCO grabbed on the way to school. Or just one of the kids the MCO likes to try and make "disappear."

  • The three of them must be pretty rich by now. They probably get together one or two weeks per year, make a bunch of stuff and live the rest of the year on the proceeds. They don't want to flood the market with magical artifacts, after all - both for security considerations (who wants to keep track of all that stuff to be sure none of it falls in the wrong hands?) and, well, there's a point where you can only increase the demand by lowering prices. There's only so many million-dollar artifacts you can sell per year, you know -- not because there aren't more people who want the stuff, but because most of them don't have that kind of money.

  • *nods* last thing you want to do is encourage more bank robberies and diamond heists just so villains can get the latest in anti-capture magickal artifacts.

As reading through G2 is still a ways down on my to do list would someone mind telling me what story this takes place in?

  • It's interesting that it's specifically mentioned that Caitlin takes a rocket launcher and an "obsolete" machinegun. She takes very conventional weaponry, armored to hell (but not power armor), Imp and the English teacher are lightly armed (if at all), Nikki is all magicked out to the hilt, and they bring a shifter. The team is set up specifically to limit liability against an unknown force of a specific kind.

I'm guessing Devisors, though I'm honestly wondering Revekah.

Very different circumstances from the interdimensional raid to save Donna. There's also some history in Roulette's stories of powers that specifically counter devises.

Caitlin is presumably wearing the same armor, or its descendent, that she wore as Eric. It was designed to carry the rockets, and the "obsolete: MG is equipped with the AEGIS ammo feeder, giving her infinite ammo as long as it keeps working. Hmmmm, that means that they didn't travel across dimensions, because that ammo feeder doesn't work across dimensions. With her strength she doesn't need power armor.

Imp is likely carrying her normal holdouts, which may or may not be imp-proved from her career holdouts.

I wonder if the Range Staff are Heckel and Jeckel, and Security members are Prison Bitch, Lt. Dom, and God's Messenger. Since Mr. White is Worm, he didn't seem to go. Mr. Allen is new, and WyldChyld is Reinforce's teacher.

The ammo feeder didn't work in THAT dimension.
