  • How likely is it to find a lab that others don't know about?slf.

Simple, just talk to She-Beast and meet her price

  • There are probably a few other "Realtors" around if you don't want to meet her price... then there's the old, wander through the tunnels and look for an unused space method.

  • Bring Clover on a trip through the tunnels a few times. Some secret panel is bound to pop open. Don't press your luck though, it may seal shut for good.

Or in 2016, have a character (not yours!) chase after Karma for a while. She might not have manifested yet, but the end result the same. Precocious children get into everything, powers or no. Has to be someone else, otherwise Karma would learn about it too!
edit: The Cody twins also work.

  • One could also summon an earth elemental to help with the prospecting.

Take up astral projection. Who's going to go to the trouble of warding a solid volume of rock surrounded by more solid rock?

  • Just pay the rent. Found spaces are dangerous!
Every year at least one person on the tech track disappears entirely. This isn't widely known as the school tries to keep it quiet. Even the tech track isn't certain that it happens, after all most of them are too focused on their particular area of interest to notice someone going missing. However the rumor persists of the space that eats devisors and gadgeteers!

  • Some students actually make their own secret labs from scratch. Granted, it takes access to the right combination of talent (power, inventions, abilities such as tapping into the power grid without being detected, covering up the work while it's in progress...) but it has been done in the past, and probably is still done occasionally.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

Usually by Seniors, or occasionally Juniors; they have the right combination of skill, understanding, access to information, and most importantly, learned SNEAKINESS to get away with it. If you want to find a free secret lab, follow a Senior in the Advanced Technologies program who has that look of smug superiority

  • Bek got it right - find a reputable broker and pay what they ask. Don't try to be cheap - it'll get you in the end. 'Shine asked, paid - no questions asked. Why didn't he dicker? Because he checked her rep, she offered a room, and he wasn't going to do anything that would piss her off.

Recall the little adventure Darren and Eddie had when trying to get a room from Jadis - their story was awkward enough, with enough holes, that she got curious and wanted to protect herself, and ultimately she took action that proved the final nail in their coffins when their schemes unraveled.

  • I was thinking labs the realtors and school don't know about, ones that have fallen through the cracks.

Okay, here's the legend... Joey the weird kid who never said much insisted he would neither pay rent to some scalper, nor did he want the admin having its fingers in his lab that he believed could transmute lead into gold. So Joey took his ball of twine (to keep from getting lost you understand) and a walking tape and began to explore and map the tunnels. One day someone saw Joey's twine laid out on the floor leading into a dusty corridor. When they got bold enough to follow the twine (after all some people have dangerous methods of guarding their secret spaces!) they eventually came to the end of the twine, though there was a good deal less than people knew that Joey was wont to carry. As for Joey? He was never heard from again, unless the low moaning of something being tortured forever that was occasionally heard along that stretch of corridor that most people rightwise avoided was Joey or whomever else might have disappeared in the area...
Pay the rent from a reputable broker... It will cost you less in the long run!

  • I was thinking of someone stumbelling across a lad with teenage clones of... one of the female teachers. Maybe Mrs. Carson.

That can only be determined if someone can accurately map the tunnels. However because some of the tunnels exist in a quantum state, you can be sure that just the act of observing them may well change their function. It is also suspected that attempting to map the Whateley tunnel system has literally driven some people insane. Staying on the beaten paths is the best policy with regard to the tunnel system of Whateley!
Listen to the ol' Ba'r, shortcuts generally lead to traps. Ones that you don't think lead to traps are ones that you have not yet tripped the trap in!
