  • I was wondering, are Animen powers going to be as scattershot as mutant powers or did Dr. DNA make like Petshop, and figure out how to build in certain abilities?

  • Well, keep in mind, the Animen are a version of a super soldier program. Practically all of them are bigger and stronger than the average human. So, in a sense, those 'powers' are baked in. But as far as actual powers, such as energy blasts or flight, them appearing is more a bonus, more than a feature. We'll see more of their abilities and Dr. DNA, never fear.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Dr. DNA? ... For some reason, I thought he was dead by Gen1...

  • Goody! Him and Gizmatic are my fave Mad Scientists.

And that reply works very well with something I was tossing into my fic: As a nod to the moor cats of the Shanarra stories I was going to toss in a chameleon coated cougar animan.

  • I got the impression from the Nick Jr.'s debut story that his manifesting as a mutant Animan was sorta unexpected. Apparently everybody (well, we don't know what Dr. DNA's more informed opinion on this was) had been assuming that Animen's DNA was too changed from baseline human to retain a viable Mutant Gene Complex. But they might be closer than human than previously assumed.

A corollary of this is: what if Animen DNA (and, in particular, mutant Animan DNA) turns out to not be quite absolutely mutually sterile with human DNA? I mean, we know that some Animen have indulged in sex with humans... Warhorse and Nick Jr. come to mind. Won't Nick be surprised if one of the mutant girls he has been having fun with turns out to have just the right sort of mutations to be able to procreate with his own mutated Animan DNA...

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

I presume you meant Gen 2 here, as the good Dr is very much alive in Gen 1. His fate is not entirely certain, but we do know from the announcements on loop at New Eden International...

We caution all of our guests that Dr. DNA is not a resident on Paradise Island, the Animan conversion process is extremely complicated and there is no such thing as 'Animan Serum', pills or any other miraculous drug that by passes this process. Immigration to Paradise Island is currently severely limited and cannot be initiated by anyone except a uniformed and credentialed member of the Paradise Island State Department. Examples of these uniforms and documents can be viewed at the visitors services kiosk on the main concourse. Be wary of anyone making contradictory claims to these facts...
