Or is the spirit sorta like Glee, being a spirit-thing of not an animal?

Can't be Five-Fold unless they're sapient, since only those survived the Sundering?

Class 2 entities (e.g., spirits, demons, gods, totems, manitou, kachina, kami, divs, loa, daevas, faeries, goblins, hobgoblins) can stabilize themselves on the Material Plane using a template (like local myths and other stories).

Some of those templates may allow for the entity to adopt one, a handful, or as many forms as they chose when they take a physical form.

Would they be the unicorn or pillar of living fire of the old stories? Depends on the writer.

Those who were already dead may not have been Sundered. Or, their afterlife got blown to bits and they ended up scattered throughout time and space (Sort of like getting on the bad side of Rose Tyler) Who knows?
