I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Sadly, it is used in the Real World too. I remember a shooter a couple years ago claiming that he had been possessed by... the Uber app!Bek D Corbin wrote: Of course, there are shootings, bombings, mass poisonings, as in Real Life. And, again of course, 'a mind controller made me do it' is a favorite excuse

Kettlekorn wrote: School safety is a great example how very minor things can be inflated into overwhelming problems in the minds of the public. On average, around 20 people (adults included) die annually in American school shootings, and 50 more are injured. For perspective, we lose 30,000 to 40,000 people a year in car accidents. Our schools still have room for improvement, but they're already very safe places. It's easy to see how ragers would steal the limelight from what is basically a non-issue.
say this all the time...your kid has a better chance of being hit by lightening or dying in a earthquake (i lived in cali..lol) than getting shot!
I'd rather the money be spent on other training...CPR, Drivers ED, heck even snake bite! Because those ACTUALLY happen a few times years just north of LA in the desert-ty areas!
Media just over-blowing something for easy ratings and CASHING in with it JUST like they say the NRA does...but in the billions$$$$$$$$$!

I have my own thoughts on causes and how to tackle them, but it's a politically charged issue and I'm not even American, so I won't discuss them.

But, for that to be a sensible substitution, the ease of access has to match how those people get their guns IRL...
Demon Summoning doesn't always need esoteric ingredients? But I guess if you want a useful one, the costs are too high...

...I mentioned Australian Law, didn't I?
In all seriousness; wouldn't students with the ability to cast spells be more concerninh?

Probably not. It takes more than a little discipline and work and luck to accumulate Essence without scattering it everywhere, light their wells, AND learn useful spells. Neither essence nor knowledge come cheap and easy for a baseline. Those kids like Jessie Harrow, who come from a family tradition, will already be Apprentices racking up supervised work hours toward their Journeyman Sorceror licensing, not counting having a potentially lucrative career that the losers around them can only dream about.
WIZ-type mutants have a power that helps them accumulate Essence. That power does not inherently come with an operator's manual, nor the Will to hold on to that Essence. If they survive manifesting and lighting up the astral space around them like a fireworks display, someone's more likely than not to drop by to see what's up with them.

After giving themselves a nosebleed with effortSir Lee wrote: Yeah. Consider Fey, who is a Wiz-7++++. Even with a bit of training, the most damage Nick managed to do was an explosion of hobgoblins. Somebody with a lower Wiz rating (that is, EVERYBODY) and *no* training at all? Perhaps a couple weak hobgoblins. On a good day.

A true demon, or even a devil for that matter, would be more than willing to help. Because it knows they would mess it up. How they get Essence? I'm sure it would be willing to help on that front too. Summoning circle? "Looks fiiine, but don't forget to add this bit here!"
The hardest part would be the initial communication link or true name.
