So, what's available and not available as codenames? Mainly for adults, but how do adult rules differ from Whateley Student rules?
There's the copyright restriction, the similarity restriction, the Unicode Characters, or similar, restriction...
Any other restrictions?
Is there a Major Deity restriction, that prevents the New Olympians from having the names of their godly forms as codenames? Unless, the reason they didn't choose them is 'cause it'd attract too much attention.
How similar is similar? Like, there's the Hong Kong Delphic, so there can't be a Delphi? ... Yeah, actually that looks real similar...

Are you talking about adult restrictions, or Whateley student restrictions? They are not quite the same.
And, forgive me for asking... what do you mean by English Symbolic restriction?

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

Hmm... ... Let's go with both and note the differences?
No, it's fine, I just picked that phrase for its quipiness or something. I'm talking about the restriction of characters of the English-ness, most likely ASCII or something. Note how Quyèn Nũ ... ... Okay. I'm wrong, diacritics are allowed... And there's *!x ...
So, there's a character restriction to Unicode or something... Gonna note that in the OP...

The answer is: go read trademark law.
Because that's basically the key defining issue.

Have we seen anyone's codenames vetoed on non-copyright grounds? Like MCO obstructiveness?
Like, you could name yourself, "The MCO is *******" ... No, not protesty enough... "Public Prisoner"... No, "MCO Political Prisoner 1". Yeah.

Well, since most mutants get their MIDs by way of the MCO, the registering agent could just refuse to enter that name. They seem to have some leeway -- it has been known for the MCO to assign a codename without input of the mutant. Also, they could claim trademark infringement of the MCO name.
But more generally, there's probably a clause somewhere allowing refusal of codenames considered offensive. I mean, I can easily see a codename like "[n-word] Exterminator" being denied.
