Perhaps the origin of the MGC is in the latter half of the 19th Century?
As the Mystic Six were the mutants, that we know of?
Although, we don't know if they breed true like Gian Han , who might be the first modern MGC carrier.
Although, at least one of the Tanaka's granddaughters is a mutant. But we've no idea of her parents... where the non-Tanaka parent might be a mutant.
Given that the Mystic Six were ~5 when they were triggered by Ultra-X-Amine in 1877, if the cause of the MGC affected babies at conception, that would mean the cause would have been in 1872 at the latest. Or if the cause affected their parents, making them have MGC-ed children, the cause would have been ~19+ years earlier?

It's highly unlikely that Gian Han was the first carrier of the MGC. She was the first documented case of mutant powers, true; but only a small fraction of the MGC carriers ever manifests -- about 1/6 of the general population are carriers. In order to be this widespread, it must have originated much, much earlier. Also, there might be undocumented active mutant powers cases before Gian Han.

There have been mutants in the Whateley Universe for centuries... perhaps millenia.
Just not many. And given that there have also been 'other' paranormal types, there's no certainty that some of those weren't just mutants and we didn't have the science to know the difference yet.

Here's the hillbilly explanation:
It was them aliens in that there Area 51 and their flyin' saucers. They probed a lot of people and contaminated them with their alien gene stuff, and that's why we has the MGC thing that's makin' all these mutants! If'n ya got probed, yer kids gonna have that MGC thing and turn into mutants!
