  • It's good to see Wondercute back together. And STAR Jr too, although they were less broken I think.

I guess now we know why Gunny isn't around in G2. :D

I'm rather amused that a great deal of solving Wondercute's problems involved locking them together in rooms until they made up.

Also, it was really heartbreaking to realize that Misty didn't have any friends to turn to outside of Wondercute.

In an amazing moment of serendipity, this is the PianoGuys song that was released today.

  • Wondercute is very much like Team Kimba, close friends first, a Training Team only because they are friends.

Misty's other friends are Jadis (her roommate) and the Jobettes, and with Misty avoiding Lindsey …

  • And here we have our definitive answer to why the Chief isn't in Gen 2.

as to the Jericho part, I have to sometimes wonder what Ayla considers to be the better investment, the Jericho eye protection from Bugs or the world's most expensive tactical baton.

Wondercute getting debriefs from Ayla AND Hank... Be afraid, be VERY afraid.

  • Misty's friend problem is that she sort of established herself as Jadis' friend, whether Jadis wanted her as a friend or not. Then Jadis realized that all Misty wanted was a friend, not a boss or gateway into a job, so Jadis accepted her. So Misty became friends with the seeds, and most of the students don't want to mess with them. So others will be wary of approaching her.

Now if Wondercute really wants to become a threat, they'll ask Eldritch to help review their sims.

Now whom did they sucker get to be their faculty sponsor. Imp hasn't been hired yet.

  • Now that Wondercute is back, is Jade going to get revenge for Beltane's prank?

Also, it was oddly heartwarming how Jericho and Razorback were pushing to get a Wondercute response.

  • Who else wants Gunny to be the faculty advisor for Wondercute?

Also it was Gunny who said he would retire not Chief Delarose.

Ouch, we knew the debriefing would be painful but that is bad. Dang, took Sam to stop Gunny from giving a sim dissection. The pain of Wondercute members is as thick as pea soup fog, double ouch. Crash against both teams, wasn't expecting that. Giving Wondercute a dose of reality, at least Dr. Katherine Hayes got him to see he wasn't getting through to them. Yikes, Lindsey was the hardest hit by the crash, poor girl. Oh boy, Lily watching the replay and not wanting commentary, hope she doesn't obsess over what she could have done differently, how she could have changed the outcome. What ifs never help except to drive you crazy and stressed out.

*eyes bug out* Bunny is very bad shape to not want to go dancing with Nikki. Jade declined a
'Hello Kitty' shopping spree!!! Code red, that is severe depression. At least Mrs. Horton's hug got them to cry and unleash their pent up emotions, better to let it out than be catatonic. Dang, a mental image like that for Bunny and still barely reacted to it. They teach the students to use unorthodox tactics, yet when they do and it works too well in the staffs opinion they decide to teach them a lesson. It is true no one is invincible and showing that was important, but the girls won't see it that way for a long time.

Oh crud, Angel knew some of what would happen, couldn't tell due to the code of ethics, yet Jade just sees it as a betrayal of a friend. Thing go from bad to worse. At least Jade hears when Mrs. Horton tells her it was a crash against both teams. Ouch, Jade even blames herself and believes Anna thinks she didn't have a good plan and wasn't a good leader. No one talking, everyone upset and thinking things about what the others think of them and what they did in the sim, the hits just keep on coming.

Lindsay talking to Mrs. Nelson, she is talking to someone, that is good. Blaming herself for what happened in the sims, not wishing to face Molly yet. Putting the weight of the blame for what happened in the sim on themself seems to a running theme with the members of Wondercute. Letting her sleep in a different room for now, anyone who can't see how badly the crash left the girls physically and emotionally drained I would have to call dense. Thankfully none of the staff is that way.

Ouch, Molly thinks Lindsay has moved out permanently and doesn't wish to be her friend or around her anymore. Molly thinks because no one talked or looked at her, or anyone else in Wondercute, that they blame her for what happened. *sighs* Fear of losing friends, fear that others blame you for what happened, blaming yourself for what happened, a lot of pain that needs to be worked out but all of them avoiding each other. At least they each have friends and adults trying to work them through it.

3 Jinns and Jade confused and upset, what is going on? All these Jinns and everyone is professing innocence. Wait! Beltane! She is working with Team Kimba to prank Jade out of her depression. Only thing which makes sense to me. All those Jinns, Jade figures out it is Beltane doing it and she doesn't want to prank her back. This is worse than I thought! Ayla coming up with the plan and realizing getting the girls spurred into action together instead of by themselves. What is Ayla going to do for plan 2, I wonder.

Misty off on her own, Molly not even there, good grief, the only way to fix this is with something desperate and potentially dangerous in the end. Forcing Jade and Bunny to sit by each other and talk, nice plan, finally we see the start of their making up.

Nacht needs to learn the meaning of tact! At least Jadis is able to explain it and Lindsay listens to reason. Jadis is one of the most mature of the Whateley students, as long as you girls are alive, it's not too late. Now how to fix this mess, wonder if Jadis and Ayla are going to work together.

Buster and his group of fellow creeps planning on messing with the girls in the state they are in, talk about no empathy at all. Chief Delarose and heavily armed security squad along with Dr. Bellows, already planning ahead to protect the girls, good. Attempt to interact with any of the girls and they get expelled, oh that is good, wonder if they are dumb enough to try anyways. Nice bluff on Buster and his creeps. We knew about TNT and Tissy and the other members of his group and the Furies dating. Didn't know Tissy considers Anna a good friend, takes all kinds I guess. Though I wonder what would happen to any idiot who mess with Anna and Tissy finds out.

Nikki upset with Ayla, upset over the coming memorial for Aunghadhail, good grief. And Jade and Bunny wondering how to keep Wondercute together, as it seems to have fallen apart with no way to repair yet.

All those problems, all that pain caused by the sim and Gunny thinks putting them back in the sims and coaching them through it to get back their confidence would help. *sighs* Gunny doesn't understand how teens react, it seems. Play it by ear and quickly, hard to do within a limited timeframe like they have.

And now we see how hard Lily is taking it, how she thinks they were used, except for the staff and adults everyone seems to either blame themselves or Gunny and Sam for using them. How she met Lily's father, interesting story. Ack! I can imagine what Lily thought her mom wanted to talk about after a comment like that. Ouch, losing a friendship because of something like that, Tabitha knows the kind of thoughts going on in Lily's head. Glad to see Lily's talk with her mom helped.

Annual remembrance ceremony, important but also painful. Especially now that I see how many are named and others not named, if only they knew about Folder at least. Keeping Molly from running, making them talk it out, finally taking Chou forcing the issues. Sometimes Molly is too shy and beats herself up over the wrong things, it hurts to watch and be reminded of myself a lot. Now that brought tears to my eyes to see them reconcile and be friends again.

All that pain of loss, brought back as part of bringing closure and helping healing to those left behind. Never easy, never simple. All those friends and support, without which several of them wouldn't be there. When Tansy is comforting Kayda, you know it is a somber occasion and anyone who disrupts it will be in for a world of hurt. Now this is what remembering others is meant to be like.

Seeing 3 of her friends together and she thinks they didn't approach her because they hate her. Poor Anna, that crash devastated them each even worse than I imagined.

Anna hiding like that, her roommate Skids comes with others to find her. Sue, Jerry, and Lucille there as well, her presence making Anna freak out as to why she is there. Making her go to dinner with them and Anna finally realizes one thing about a large gathering of squirrels, how they aren't quiet around her. Buster messing with Anna like that, taunting her and even using her teammates against her. Thank you Sergeant Harris for being there for Anna and making Buster back down. All that, her friends in the Underdogs supporting her and Anna still thinks everyone sees her as a traitor. Crying into Lucille's shoulder, poor girl, makes me wish I could help.

Lily seeing all that and breaking down, blaming herself and her team for what happened to Wondercute. *sigh* Getting through to someone who is usually as strong-willed as Lily is going to be tough.

Gah! Why did you have to put the mental image of Jericho's outfit into my mind, it burns! Though I know why he and Razorback are doing this, trying to get Wondercute to snap out of their shell shock and such. Give them a common enemy to need to work together to take down.

For someone codenamed Sharpie he isn't that sharp sometimes, not seeing they are trying to encourage Anna into going back to Wondercute to fight against Jericho and Razorback's fashion nightmare.

Nacht has seen worse than that, please never describe that in any story. It might destroy the mind's eye of anyone who reads it. *eyes bug out* Lindsay is in worse shape than previous scenes lead me to believe, not even reacting to that level of Jericho outfit.

Ayla, you are too good at keeping a poker face, once they find out you were involved in Jericho's newest outfit many students are going to want to punish you one way or another for it. Nice distraction with the crepes, only a desert of that level would work. And Addy is one of the few people who can see through Ayla's poker face like that. At least from how she responded to his look she did.

Okay, you know Ayla is involved and payed Gauntlet and Cagliostro to wear such outfits. Lindsay is taking others not being with their teams for lunch well either, yikes. Fey missing, Ayla at a different table, things are bad all around.

Ashley in Doyle and Lily blaming herself for Fey supposedly attacking Hank and Ayla, oh boy. Lily is trying to take on the weight of the world, blaming herself for things she isn't connected to, she needs to listen to her parents. Oh boy, something did happen between Fey, Hank, and Ayla.

Icebreaker lives up to her codename imo, studying and acting that coldly when her roommate is in that bad of shape. Ashley is taking it the hardest of Star League Jr. and her roommate needs an attitude adjustment for treating someone with severe depression like that. Using the Apollo 13 mission control center, good idea. Now we hear the major point of all the P.E. courses, teaching them not to panic.

Finally, Sam gets to explain to Ashley she isn't a rager, that many other students have acted the same way, letting their frustration get the better of them. Dang, they still have both Lily and Ashley's moms sims on record, including ones where they lost their temper. For their group going back into the sims and working things out, with parents, adults they know and trust, works.

All this to help Ashley work past her fear, also to help her learn to not attack with a pattern but to vary things up, keep your opponent guessing. All that and Ashley still thinks she is in danger of losing control, so afraid of it she is holding back. Boy, hard lessons all around but worth it and from a voice of experience. Though I see how it would cause anyone not experienced with such a situation to lose their cool. Glad to see it all worked and Ashley finally broke that dam on her emotions instead of letting fear control her.

Ayla scheming with Dr. Bellows, Gunny and Sam. Oh boy, this is going to be major. Virtual debriefing set in the picnic area down by the lake, why do I have the feeling all the girls got tricked into the sims this way and they are leaving them stuck inside until they work things out. Yup, based on how they manipulated Lindsay like that it is a set-up. Teasing each other over their acting, while Gunny dips into his jelly beans. Ayla a regular job of planning out sims, the students would revolt after less than a week of that.

Molly running from a figure all in black chasing her and ends up in the same area as Anna, not too subtle. Oh boy, ninja threating to kill Molly and make her suffer before she dies, a little over the top by Gunny and Sam. Supposed to be Nex, who was supposedly kicked out, and Anna moves into action to save her friend. Dang, Anna's time in Advanced Martial Arts is definitely showing great improvement to her skills. Her skills from Parkour are impressive, moving like that. Taking down Nex with Rythax and the sim ends.

Jade and Bunny in a separate sim, as Magni-Girl pushes around Lindsay for information on Jadis like the bully she is, at least for the sims. If she is like that in the real world, how she hasn't been expelled is beyond me. Assaulting Lindsay and threatening to destroy Pern, Jade distracts Magni-Girl and tells Lindsay to run. Combo attacks from Jade and Bunny keeping her off balance. If Magni-Girl is like this, obsessed with Jadis to the point of ignoring school rules and threating others for information, how she is on the Capes is beyond me. The sims probably exaggerate it some, but by how much I don't know.

Non-magnetic alloy, smart suggestion from Bunny on that. Dang, forget sometimes what Bunny can do with her gadgets and devises. That was brutal to put Lindsay through, thinking she was going to lose Pern like that. At least it all worked out and got them talking again.

Buster, Legbreaker, and Crunch, figures they would use them for the sim and have them targeting Anna. Having Misty face a situation where a friend was badly hurt, yet not retaliate against her attackers so she could rescue her friend. Smart and hopefully helped to get her past her beating herself up.

Lindsay in a sim seeing Bunny chasing Belphegor, having stolen something again and refusing to admit he is a thief. And having him Drick out, oh boy. Dang, if Belphegor can be that dangerous I'm surprised he doesn't use that chair in combat pod mode in the combat finals.

Molly having to save Misty from the Whateley Martial Arts Cheerleading Squad, yikes. Gateway to get free of gravity warping and a spell slip that can slow an opponent down like that, Molly has gotten a lot stronger since we first met her. And a spell slip to create a slippery slime which they can't stand while covered in, dang. And comforting Misty after she has Rythax cow the bullies, Molly needed this.

Using the sims and making them watch each other in them, all to get them to realize their fears are unfounded and they are still friends. Misty not a rager, Anna not a traitor and they know she did what she had to, even Misty. All that, Ayla's idea and Jade helping set it up, the girls even hugging Jade and thanking her for helping them get back together. Man, was that a rollercoaster of emotions.

Wondercute sleepover at Poe, Tenchi, Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty. Except for Hello Kitty I've seen and like those animes. Verdant, Selkie, and Riptide, good idea to go to the 3rd floor, down there tonight no studying will be possible. Ayla and Hank debriefing them on their sim and they are excited about it, dang, that was a quick turnaround. Redo the sim just to show you don't mess with the power of cute, Jade is definitely back to her old self.

A pair of unicorns, Gunny's reaction, bwahahahaha! Now that is a way to stop a psychic from reading minds, I wouldn't want to try getting past that psychic jumble, especially with Jade's psychic signal in the mix. Dang, that trick just made Misty a lot more dangerous to deal with. Jade got out of Lily's bubble and this time they captured Ashley with Lindsay riding invisibly on Pern. Trying to rely on telepathy too much can be dangerous if your opponents know you have it. Molly gated Lily out of her bubble, dang.

"I'm going to retire", Gunny shot back immediately. "I swear-if they become a permanent training team, I'm going to retire."

    He brought it on himself.

Jericho, Razorback, and all those bullies are going to regret going this far. A large, bloody Hello Kitty head on a pike-pole. And they think Wondercute is still broken up because of how Jade and Bunny are acting. This going to be good. Now that is an entrance! Gauntlet trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey using pink ribbons, bwahahaha. Cagliostro in a pink Sailor Moon outfit, even with long blonde pigtails in pink ribbons, oh god, stop, my sides are hurting.

Anvil and Uproar too, then part of a spell-chain to cause a burning itch so they would mess with the spell slips and the rest of the bullies in similar outfits. Suspended upside-down from the ceiling by Rythax and Jinn, they will never live this down. I would have been clapping and happy to see them back together, and because they drove those hideous outfits away.

And making up between the two teams now, nice to see them friendly with each other and not all upset due to the crash. Though Lily's mom is right, no amount of planning can survive against the insanity Wondercute can bring. Jadis with a look of horror on her face, the thought of a movie night with Wondercute caused it, guess there had to be something which could make Jadis react in horror. Tenchi is what they are watching and Lily and Ashley face-palmed at that. Awww, it is one of the good animes.

Good suggestions for the sim crew to follow, hopefully avoid something like this happening in the future. Hahahaha, Sam suckering Gunny into watching Wondercute's Crystal Hall return with Mrs. Carson, guess even he can be tricked. This was a great and perfect way to have both teams recover from the crash and become stronger. And now we know why Gunny isn't around in Gen 2, thought of Wondercute around every year for the rest of the time he works there, with new members, was too much.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

You can see how Lily handles this at the end of "All the King's Horses". Needless to say, it doesn't go very well.

  • From the comments, it may not have me through well that each Wondercute sim was tailored for ONE girl, and she was the only live actor. In other words, when Anna saves Molly from Nex, Molly is simulated. In all cases, the 'rescuer' is the live actor.

Guess it's a case where it was clear to me because I've worked with it so much, but may not have come through well.

Good story, glad to see them all back together and growing from it.
And as someone said earlier, its nice how Jericho and Razor were trying to provoke a response to get their arch-nemeses out of their funk.

I was almost certain while reading Anna's, Molly was too meek (all the victims were too meek).
I was certain because of the way Magni-Girl was acting, while Iron Pan would accept that sort of behavior Pendragon, Glorianna, and Mr. Mystic wouldn't.

I wasn't sure if Jade and Bunny were in a sim together or not.

And Tennyo, and Chaka, and Phase, and Razorback, and Outcast Corner, and Pejuta, and much of the Workshop, and the Hooligans, and most of the rest of the students just because Anna was nice to them once or twice. Consider Bombshell's reaction when Anna talked to her in the showers after Bladedancer cut her.

Buster and his buddies don't realize that Dr. Bellows and Security weren't protecting Anna, they were protecting Buster. Because if Buster upset Anna, it would be a race to see who killed him. (Tennyo and Chaka would lose that race, because Chaka would be stopping Tennyo.) Then when it was all over Nate would fart on their corpses.

  • One thing I forgot about before.

On the other side of the blob, nothing that Billie, Ayla, Hank, or Toni said or did made any impression on their sullen teammate. And when Jade morosely declined Ayla's offer to take her on a 'Hello, Kitty' shopping spree during their planned summer business trip, the other Kimbas cringed; except for Ayla's depression early in the school year and Billie's depression after the hit attempt on team Kimba in their sim, they'd never had a teammate so down, Jade hadn't been even remotely this blue in a very long time.

Did you deliberately leave off Fey's depression? And Hank's pain after Jamie's wasn't quite as bad, but Chaka is really the only Kimba who hasn't been through the emotional wringer this year.

I was only a little confused until I figured this out halfway through the first one, with Anna saving "Molly". Other than that, the Jade/Bugs one threw me until the reveal, as it was written as if they were both protagonists of the scene. Granted, perspective with the J-Team is difficult, so no foul from me.

As for my opinion about the rest of it... Is the bomb you're holding over our heads - that is, whatever Nikki did to Hank & Ayla - something that's been in another story? I can't keep the end of the 06-07 year straight.

It was a pleasure seeing Hank apply his very real pain regarding Heyoka in an attempt to restore the Wondercute friendship, likewise with Jericho being his usual self, although I yearn for another story focused on Outcast Corner...

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • I was thinking that with the title being Veni, Vidi, Cutie, shouldn't the last word have been in Latin too? Off to Google Translate, and I find that "Cute" translates into "Bellus." My first thought there was isn't that "War"? No that is "Bellum." Hmmmm, those are very similar. I think this is proof of both time and interdimensional travel. Wondercute obviously traveled back in time to our ancient Rome and caused enough war and havoc that the word for Cute and War became nearly the same.

I thought of doing the title in all Latin - but it lost something in the translation, in the same way that

    Veni, Vidi, Visa
    [/b]
would lose something. So I kept it as it was. Besides, if Cutie wasn't in the title, how would anyone know it's Wondercute?

Hmm... "Princess Jobe", that means the coronation happened? ... Or is it how Jadis knew about that the crash was gonna be a draw? We never got the answer to that? Or was that something about being roommates with Misty?

Or was it something about Apollo 13? Basically that it occurred in the Whateley-verse as well...

Sam stood. "I'm going to start with a little history lesson. You girls are familiar with NASA, right?" With a confused glance at each other, Ashley and Lily nodded. "And Apollo 13?"

"Dad loves that movie," Ashley muttered. "But what ...?"

Sam cut off her response. "I'm talking about the real event. Let me show you a clip from a documentary that includes actual footage from the control center." She stood to one side and the front display lit up. After a brief clip, the video paused. "Now - looking at the faces, what did you see?"

Well, that's interesting... How does the film differ from the real event??

There are minor differences for 'artistic license' and drama but the story is mostly the same. The whole "below XXX amps" is a shortcut - the deal was to get total power consumption below battery capacity, not merely some instantaneous amperage. The 'crisis' of the CO2 scrubbers wasn't as "Oh my gosh, here's a new problem!" As I said, dramatic license added to the story.

    And ... that's not it.

  • One thing has me a bit confused. Where was the real Jinn? I don't see her being involved in the prank, after all she is Jade.

    A Fishing Club for Bianca?

    Illudium Q-36?

  • Actually, I was surprised at the mentions of Jinn in the prank (she tied up the suspended ones) … I don't believe Jinn has been noted as a member of Wondercute before.

  • Okay so I have been taking Latin this semester and all of the answers to how you should phrase the title to be in latin bothered me. Mainly because you were using nouns not verbs.

At the point when the story came out we had not yet learned perfect tense (which Veni, Vidi, Vici is in). Now I have so I have an answer.

    It would be:

    Veni, Vidi, bellus Fui

    Or:

    Veni, Vidi, bella Fui

Depending on the gender of the speaker. Theoretically it could be:

    Veni, Vidi, bellum Fui

If the speaker's gender was neuter, but I don't think romans would have said it like that, they didn't have much in the way of non binary genders in the language (that I have learned).

    They all translate to:

    I came, I saw, I was cute

And the last statement (bulla fui) could be reversed (to fui bulla) if you wanted. Lantin in completely inflectonal so order does not matter most of the time.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • That would be perfect... for a Wondercute scholarly article. Or a technical manual. Artistic license!

And you're not telling El or the author team anything we didn't already talk about in feedback in working on the title. While not 'correct', the version we went with sold the name to 'most' people.

  • I never said I had a problem with the title. I thought the title was rather clever. I had a problem with how people were trying to fix the title.

  • It's interesting to know the proper way to do it, but I was going for a take-off of "Veni, Vidi, Visa", the amusing way of "I came, I saw, I shopped'. After a lot of internal debate, I went with Veni, Vidi, Cutie because it had that same 'ring' as Veni Vidi Visa and would be catchy to the average reader.

As somewhat of a nerd, I appreciate finding out the proper latin phrase; my dinky school in the upper midwest (SD) didn't have any foreign languages, let alone latin, so ... yeah. Interesting little factoid to know and file away in case I ever have to pull out the proper phrase to disarm a WMD that threatens to blow up DC or New York. (humor intended)

  • I still like the "Veni, Vidi, Cuti" idea, the four letters ending with an 'i' make a more pleasing pattern, and it looks close enough to Latin for government work :)
