*eyes bug out* Dead father of the girl this boy was with, a monster came into younger daughter's bedroom, 'big cat man' appeared to fight the monster, and the daughter ran away at that point. Just what is going on here and why is the boy crying so much? Is it due to the death of the girl's father or some other reason?

Oh crud, don't tell me, the monster was the father and the boy was the 'big cat man', no wonder he is freaking out if that is the case. Crescent Muse, cool codename, a nice tale of how he saw her last spring at the parades. Oh crud, sounds more like these kids are siblings and their father came back and they were forced to live with him. Good thing Muse is such a pro with calming kids down. Danny waking up and getting used to how different his dorm room at Whateley is compared to his old room at her grandmother's place.

Kind of musty, kind of musky, and closer to the smell of his granma's old Yorkshire terrier than he was comfortable to admit.

Heh, there are worse things to smell like. Little rituals in the morning to confirm this is all really happening, whoa.

Comfy clothes without worry as to how you look, my kind of person. Marcus and Beverly Taylor, junior high students in Poe instead of Hawthorne, nice to see. Okay, Bev is a mean little girl to mess with Danny like this. At least Marcus makes her realize what she is doing to Danny. Having to remain calm or uncontrollably shift like that, talk about stressful. And certain unwelcome body part, I can relate to Danny that, the poor kid has a long road ahead.

Crud, knew I was forgetting something, Beverly Taylor, a victim of her devisor sister. *facepalms* This is Wilder, no wonder he growled at Humorless. And that fight with Humorless still keeps being brought up, no wonder Danny is in a bad mood. The Crystal Hall, bet it takes at least a year for most of the awe of this place to wear off on students. Huh, why no sugars of any sort for Danny? And what is the drink?

Lunch with the Barnes family, Pat, Chessa, Marcus, and older sister going by Moonbrook right now, fun. Oh good, Kirsten's meltdown ruined her image and no sign of her since yesterday afternoon. The Poe Boys, 9 boys held down a single wing of Poe Cottage, an interesting clique. Kieran aka Bebop, Zander aka Swerve who is obviously a speedster of some sort, and Sam aka Tiptoe, poor Sam sounds like he is roped into following along these other two.

Ah, poor Sam has a crush on Fra, hope he isn't let down too hard. Zander needs to drop the attitude towards girls, especially with Chessa around, one bad sneeze in his direction and he is going to Doyle. Huh, would have thought Moonbrook would have brought things to order, guess Pat knows how to stop inappropriate conversations outside of Poe. If Danny isn't ready his 'friends' should know better than to keep pushing him. Danny has to deal with all this stress, has to focus to keep from shifting, I suspected from previous stories he had it bad, but not this bad.

What is with the air of raw stress even a non-empath like Ms. Muse can pick up? Deputy Collins a chatty type, great, he set off Danny, didn't he. Harassing a prisoner like this, an underaged one no less, this Collins is a true creep. Idiot got Danny to transform, runs off in fear, but unharmed, and the assistant sheriff has the nerve to call Danny a that. Thank you, Ms. Muse, for doing what is right.

Having to remain relaxed or shift, dang, I would be in trouble with his powers. Ratel swaggering toward Danny and he realizes his Ultra-Violent armband is missing from his arm. Dang, Rachel knows the rules pretty well, backup armband for Danny, nice.

And Rachel is still upset about not being able to get in on the fight between MMM and Kirsten's team. *facepalms* Puppy-dog eyes and all to get Danny to join her training team, find a 3rd member while she gets a 4th member, good grief. Still confused by the sensation of her kisses and calls counseling services, Danny just had to attract Ratel for a girlfriend.

Muse learned her lesson the first time, no soda for Danny with lunch. And remanded to her custody already, that was fast.

"The Cajun Counter-Force Mobile Command Center 01," she confirmed. "There are protocols for transporting potentially dangerous folks with powers, even if we know you don't really mean it." A pat on his head for reassurance. "I hope you don't mind, but at least your room in there will be a lot more comfortable than a jail cell."

Cool transport, Danny is lucky to get to ride along in that.

Nemean, now that is a great codename for a lizard-type mutant. Spectacles to read, polite, and well-spoken, I love characters who go against tropes. Jean-Baptiste waiting for Muse.

And ever to the point. She had to sigh at that. "No, Jean-Baptiste. No trace, no sign that this was anything but a mistaken rumor. It's like this every year, remember? Any township within spitting distance of the bayou's going to claim they've seen le Grand Escroc at least once. And he is dead," she added.

"For the time being." The man took a sip of water. "A pity it never seems to take. I would damn my three-times-great grandmother, only it would be redundant."

Oh great, so an immortal or undead being who keeps coming back connected to Jean-Baptiste's ancestor, never easy to deal with. So their father, Ratherford, forged a social worker's signature, stole the girls from school before the grandmother even knew it, I disagree with Jean-Baptiste, him going into the younger sister's room suggest he was molesting them or worse, jail would have only made him worse. And the Agent Visellius who replaced deceased Agent Priestley is the stereotype we have come to expect of the MCO, *sigh*

Set into the side of Doyle Hall, the school's counseling and psychiatric department had its own wing full of professionals to help the student body through their various issues before it all boiled over and something was blown up, melted, or disintegrated.

Was always curious as to the size of their department. Hortensio Shu, tea made to help Danny remain calm, smart. And oh course Ratel is the issue, even talking to her about it wouldn't change anything, it might even embolden her.

Oh god, he abused Danielle and she tried to keep him away from Michelle, their father was a monster to put his own daughter's through this, if he hadn't then Danielle and Michelle could be with their grandmother, safe and sound. *wipes brow* Nice change of topic into something Danny is interested in. Pokemon, back when Sun and Moon first came out, collecting them all now would take so long.

A non-trans girl stuck as a guy, now there is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Interesting locale for the Cajun Counter-Force's headquarters. Ms. Harmony Fontenot, seems Danny's family has a very intriguing history. Boy, they definitely get some of the more out-there villains down in Louisiana, conjuring the Lake Pontchartrain Monster, now that takes some skill.

Ugh, MCO using the fact Danielle transformed into Daniel as a loophole to screw him over, typical. And Harmony can tell Danny was Danielle just by seeing him, like to see the MCO try and argue with her in court. So the Hulk is the worst possible scenario, good to know. Nemean having to explain to Harmony what he went through as a Rager with extreme GSD himself. Mention of Whateley, which Muse's niece and Nemean's god-daughter goes to, wonder who they are.

Man, Danny's dreams are really messing with him right now. And I agree with Danny, that dream deserves the f-bomb. And one of the humiliating things about being a teenage boy, Danny now needs to clean up and Bev has locked herself in the first-floor student quarters showers.

With the threat Bev is making and how she is freaking out.

"Hey, Bev. Ah know we ain't got along too well, an' that's okay. Ah kinda know where this is all comin' from, an'... an' it's a bitch, ain't it? Lookin' in a mirror an' seein' somebody who ain't you. No matter how many times you look, or how much you tell yerself that yer over it, it still catches ya sometimes, an'..." He sighed. "Ah guess what Ah'm sayin' is, we ain't alone. Not you, not me, not a lotta other kids in this crazy house. Hang in there."

Oh, so freakout over still have to adjust to such a huge change in her life, understandable. And with Ms. Barnes there to take care of Bev, the boys go to use the upstairs washroom, hope Danny can handle it.

Swerve's comment about girls, ugh, want to smack him upside the head right now. Huh, so junior-high stay downstairs. And Swerve, not helping by calling Danny one of the guys now, idiot.

"Better trim it down soon," the speedster said. "Or people might start thinking you're still a girl."

"An' what's the problem wi' that?" he snapped back. "Long hair ain't a bad thing."

Anyone have a muzzle that will work on a human, Swerve needs one, his mouth is too fast for his brain to think before he talks. Ugh, I really don't like Swerve, saying all these things to bash girls, assuming things about Danny, and thinks due to a 'pattern' with the changeling girls that must mean any female-to-male changeling is gay or bi, confirmation bias. Well, that shut the idiot up, don't keep pushing someone when they ask you to stop on a subject, Swerve seems like a self-absorbed idiot to me.

Nemean has been a mutant for 4 decades, seems a lot younger to me, like in his early 30s or something. Taking out frustrations on a punching bag in a secure room, Nemean sure had the right idea for Danny. 5 meters in a single leap from a standing start and I'm guessing that isn't Danny's maximum leaping distance either, dang.

Oh great, Agent Visellius is there, just what we don't need right now. Calling Danny a wild beast, okay, this man needs to be taught to respect fellow humans.

"First," said Nemean, "it is pronounced 'will-duhr,' as in wilderness. Second, as a DPA affiliate with full proxy authority to make the preliminary Report of Mutant Trait Manifestation, we did not need to provide you with anything at all. That we did so was a professional courtesy."

I like Nemean more and more. And Visellius less with every word out of his mouth.

"Unless..." Nemean raised a clawed finger to point out. "... it is a situation of emergent powers used without knowing intent or -- in the case of Wilder -- with a clear lack of conscious reason in the moment of the act itself. That is, by both federal and Louisiana statutes, what happened was first-degree manslaughter, to which a plea of no contest has already been filed. And so," he growled, "I must ask what you are even doing in this place."

Good and I can see why Nemean doesn't like the MCO, they murdered his mentor, Loup-Garou, and called it 'putting him down' like he was an animal.

Visellius trying to get Nemean to attack him, creep just wants an excuse, hate scum like this.

"That moronic social experiment they call a school, in the north-east?" Visellius shook his head as he turned away. "He will only return stronger and nastier. Better we end it now, while we have only one corpse to bury."

Okay, this ass needs a harsh lesson for bashing Whateley, without it things would be a lot worse in the world.

Avsel talking to Danny and poor Danny still wishing they could wear girl's clothing, aww. Ratel asked her about team training, she is interested, but worried about Danny, ouch.

I knew I liked Avsel, wise girl. Poor Bev in that state, Daniel not able to go and give her a hug to comfort her, stupid double-standards. Muffins for Ms. Barnes and Bev from Donut, his power is just so handy.

Eve Hilton waiting at the airport to pick someone up, telepath and picks up a jerk's thoughts about her ass, some guys just can't keep their eyes to themselves. There for Danny and his handler, James Huckinson. Foolscap has that for a nickname and even James Huckinson, who works for him, doesn't know what he looks like. Now that is keeping a secret identity.

Ugh, MCO creep saying Danny needs to go through official screening, trying to make him disappear of course.

Her own badge was out in a flash, bearing the Whateley coat of arms and the title of Field Operative. "And here is where I remind you that exit screenings are only to be done at the point of final disembarkation," she said coldly. "So save us the petty power games, Agent..." The mook's name hadn't been visible on the badge, but his surface thoughts filled in the blanks. "...Mikkelson. One more word, and you can expect to see a formal complaint lodged against you personally."

I love it when someone sticks it to corrupt scum like that. Don't tell me the other person they are picking up is Bev, she can't be that much trouble, can she?

Good grief, this Mikkelson MCO agent guy just won't give up. Ms. Magnusdottir, okay, so probably not Bev, who could it be now? At least Agent Gallagher is being polite. Great Plains office, sounds familiar.

"You might've heard, but the director had a psychotic episode, tried to shoot a presumed suspect in FBI custody, got his face planted through a tabletop." Gallagher shrugged. "Can't say he didn't deserve it."

Yikes, they really need psyche profiles done on potential hires and yearly for their agents at least.

"I've had it up to here with you and your ignorance of proper procedure, lugging a dangerous mutant halfway across the airport when he should be safely contained, disrespecting a due officer of the law..." With each half-baked accusation, the man puffed himself up more as he did his best to be physically imposing over her.

This is the kind of person you don't give any kind of power to, not even as a crossing guard.

Finally got the idiot to leave, about time. Aww, Danny crying not because she let that idiot get to her, after he promised Ms. Rizin' not to let anything to get to him. Sera Eir Magnusdottir, American-Icelandic, and definitely an Exemplar with her looks and strength, ouch.

Gah! Describing his lunch, now I'm hungry! Ack! A hug like that from Rachel, anyone else would be begging for air. And Danny is left flustered and confused once again as Rachel takes off. Well, that is new use of Pat's power, very intriguing for the possibilities. Physical and gender dysmorphia, horrible thing and some don't even think it exists, unfortunately.

Boy, Pat has thought all this out thoroughly. Pat was exactly the person who Danny needed to talk to about all this to get things rolling, as it were. Consume mass quantities, Chessa is definitely a nerd with that Coneheads reference. And 5 minutes, dang, that must have taken a lot of concentration on both their parts.

One of the most important things to cultivate in life, Chessa had found, was a proper sense of curiosity. That meant that she was always working on her ability to notice when something new or interesting was afoot, because you couldn't rely on anyone to tell you when the cool stuff happened. Not till after the fact, at least.

Well, they do say dragons are at least a little like cats. Mganga going out to greet and explain things to Danny and curious Chessa just has to know what is going on.

Messing with the statue of Noah Whateley, a tradition that will never die. Sensei Tolman there, Sequoia, Tanya, and Morgana as well, guess they are there to greet Sera to Whateley. Tanya's grandmother was SIlver Slyph from Iceland, a wonderful codename. Heartbreaker showing off her legs and getting the girls to blush or look away, hehe. Einherjar, d'oh, this is the Sera from Dorms of Our Lives, Season 4, should have recognized her sooner.

What is Sera's problem towards Danny? Heartbreaker being nice to Danny, guess she knows some of what he is going through. Oh brother, says he likes Sera's hair and she acts like that over it, girl has issues. I forgot how many changelings there are in Gen 2 Poe, nice to have a bit of a refresher. That was quick, only a few left to keep chatting with Danny. And Danny can tell by smell Pat is on their period, uh oh, awkward.

--Whateley, after classes

The last few days in particular, ever since the freshmen of the Mutant Mayhem Machine had gone up against the sophomores of the Western European Alliance in what everyone was calling the Beret Brawl, the topic of teams was all anyone really seemed to talk about.

Great, MMM has inspired many of the freshmen to want training teams of their own now. Tanya chatting with Nemean and Sylph Saturday after the match, putting Gouyasse into the infirmary really shook her.

2 weeks later and still giving him the stink eye over a compliment, Sera sure can hold a grudge. Geez, Riley, tell us how you really feel about Ratel and being on a training team with her. Ms. Barnes knows how to give out homework assignments you can't cheat on and will hate, watch the 6'o clock news, in October of 2016, an election year, yikes. Even the junior high kids have the same homework, not that is cruel.

Lightsaber doesn't like Danny, wonder why now. Miskatonic Valley news is weird.

"Oh you sweet summer child..." The teacher shook her head. "People do just that, all the time. Especially if they think they like what said ass... ahem, arsehole is spewing. In that man's case, he's taken the Gene Pledge, had the full metagene screening, and is a founding member of the Rights of Man coalition. Which tells us..."

"When he's talking shit about the city, he's really talking about mutants," Sergio concluded.

"And the Rights of Man propaganda loves to frame things in terms of safety and security," said the teacher. "As in, it's not safe to have people like us around."

People like this Senator sicken me, trying to treat anyone different enough as 'other', not human. People should ask themselves who will he go after next.

Oh boy, a camp run by two mutant women on trial, already looking like they are convicted with how they are dressed up and have collars around their necks. Having to send Zander off to talk to his counselor to calm down, Lightsaber didn't dig deep enough with her research on the camp these two women were running. Don't tell me, a camp to 'cure' gays with the way Zander is reacting.

So Zapper is Muse's niece, nice to know. Zapper wants to ask Bailey out on a proper date but the Brawl business got in the way, aww. Zapper on the training team, this is going to be an interesting group to watch. Darn it, Ratel using the rules against Danny like that to have a match.

Rachel actually expected Whateley to be the way it is, boy, she had high hopes. Talking to Erica about having a rematch and she hasn't even fully recovered from last time, Rachel is nuts, but we knew this already. I guess after all the fighting by students in the past they've had to tighten the rules up even more. And the day where Rachel first saw Danny fight against Humorless.

"Thank you, Sweet Fighting Jeebus!" Rachel shouted. Oh, the universe deserved a big old birthday present after this!

Bwahaha, Rachel, you silly nut. *eyes bug out* Nice to have details on what Ratel did in that fight, but good lord, it is a wonder Danny didn't rip her apart for what she did. I...I have no words to describe Ratel that would be right anymore, nuts doesn't begin to cover it.

Ms. Barnes finally shows up to end it, and of course Security shows up then with Rachel's student advisor. Only Ms. Barnes explaining what happened keeps Rachel from being in trouble. Rachel, you are going to give security a migraine at this rate.

"I'm sure." Mother's voice was set to its most sarcastic mode. "When that wardrobe insurance charge was included in tuition, I thought it pointless, but..."

Bwahaha, insurance charges which Whateley adds to their tuition are never pointless, they've learned over the years. Talking to her mother about Danny, Rachel is so far from a normal girl.

"Rachel..." the woman said finally. "All I can tell you is that you should be yourself. It may be the best advice for any relationship. And if he doesn't run away in blind, panicky terror, then he might just be the one for you."

Maybe Danny should have ran away when first given a chance.

Rachel there with a cooler, ready to spar already, though her sparring is more like a full-on fight. Rachel, taking your top off and only in a leather corset, she has no shame. *sigh* Rachel is going way too fast, and finally Danny has an answer to Pat's question, saying she isn't a boy. No, not a panic attack, it sure seems like Danny is having a panic attack.

And Rachel shows she has empathy, concerned for Danny who reveals they have only been in the male body for two months now. She doesn't even want to fight, too concerned about Danny, I love seeing this side of Rachel finally.

"Ah, Ah'm still a girl, inside. Ah can feel it. And Ah ain't an exemplar, ain't got one of them BIT thingies, so mebbe there's a way to shift mah way back. Ah, Ah didn't mean to be like this ever..." His eyes screwed shut against faucets of tears. "It just... it just..."

He felt a brief kiss upon his forehead, like the dance of a butterfly. "Take your time. Or don't say anything at all. Your call."

Got me tearing up here, poor kid stuck as the wrong gender and Rachel showing her compassionate side.

*feels sick to stomach* Like I said earlier, any man who would do that to a child, especially their own child, deserve what he got. I knew it, went after Michelle which triggered Danny's transformation where she killed him. Didn't want to be a girl like her dad wanted, but didn't want to be a boy, dang, wish there was a way for Danny to be Danielle again.

Wait, they just saw Danny partially react to the sugar the one time and never did further testing to see the extent of what would happen, just assumed the worst, good grief. Rachel willing to take the risk to test this supposed reaction, I wonder if Danny will fully transform like Eve suspected and go berserk or if it will be a controlled transformation where Danny is conscious and in control while transformed, that could change everything.

*drools* All those ice creams from The Machine, yum. That is one big brownie. Fighting over a brownie, adorable with these two. Huh, seems Danny acts more like a dog-cat under the influence of sugar and not a rager with how they are playing. Good, wholesome fun, and they simply slept off the sugar rush and play. Rachel is going to give Danny hairstyling, this will be interesting.

"What, this?" Danny tugged at the end of the three-ply braid of hair now running down the length of his back. Smaller braids circled his temples to hook around. His bangs had seen a curling iron recently, and now bounced springily above his forehead. "It was Rachel's idea..."

The speedster snorted. "That girl is crazy, man! Why the hell do you let her get away with that shit?"

He shrugged. "Ah dunno... kinda like it."

Cute hairstyle and definitely fits Danny.

On the table there was a little scrap of memo paper, half-hidden by his math book. In large, flowy letters, he'd written DF&RA. With a smile of his own stretching his face, Danny drew a big heart around the initials and then tucked the scrap away.

If you have to have a girlfriend, make it someone who understands you and you can talk to about anything. Never thought when Rachel first latched onto Danny it would be a good thing, so glad to be wrong about that.

Boy, can't believe it took me a few paragraphs to realize this was Wilderer's origin story. Interesting world-building with the mention of incidents down in Louisiana and the Cajun Counter-Force team. Crescent Muse, Nemean, and their teammates are interesting, I hope we see more of them in the future, possibly come to visit Danny at Whateley. I was so glad they got Danny out of that sheriff's office so quickly, the staff seemed like they would shoot him if he transformed again.

Danny at Whateley, ritual each day to make sure this is all real, after life before all this I would think it was a dream as well. Agent Visellius and then Mikkelson show once again why so many mutants don't trust the MCO, too many bad apples.

Sera really needs to drop the attitude towards Danny, a compliment about her hair, why did she get so upset and hold a grudge over that? It has me curious if there is something more to it now. I loved seeing how Danny became connected to the Barnes family first through Chessa and then Mrs. Barnes, good friends to have.

The Rights of Man coalition, another hate group painted as trying to protect baselines which spewing rhetoric designed to fuel hatred and fear, just how many such groups are out there now? And those two women with the summer camp, please, please tell us why Zander reacted how he did. I already made my guess earlier, but I would love to know for sure.

I loved learning about all Danny goes through just to keep their rage in check, to not transform and hurt others because they hate the thought of it happening again. Plus all their friends helping them to figure out the right thing for themself. I was most shocked at the scene where we were expecting a fight with Ratel, only for Danny to break down and tell her everything, which Rachel shows true compassion, understanding, and empathy. Never thought I would say it, Rachel really is the perfect girl for Danny. I can't wait to read more in the future and see how Danny grows and changes through their experiences.

* If I'm reading between the lines of a couple scenes correctly, Danielle does have the ability to shift back to her correct (female) form. However, her shifter power will have to unclench enough to permit it to happen. I further hypothesize that the reason it is clenched in the manner it is can be directly attributed to the circumstances of her manifestation. For it to unclench, her subconcious will need to come to terms with the trauma and believe that a female is as capable of defending herself as a male is. I think the time spent with Ratel will likely aid in that understanding.
* I have the sneaking suspicion that Eve Hilton will discover she has already met Foolscap when she has her rendevous that evening
* The callout to Erica's manifestation in Gallagher's 'how I spent my summer' is a nice, if subtle touch.
* I think Zapper's Aunt will have some interesting thing to say when she learns about her niece's training team
* Why can I see that usual training room turning into the team's clubhouse, even if it's a bit of a misnomer?
* When (if?) Rachel introduces Danny to her mother, I can see her doing so in the most brazen 'why did I stop drinking' way possible. Particularly if Danielle has regained the ability to be female.
* I think the telling outcome of the date night for those two will be how under control Wilder finds himself in the following days. If the inner fire has simmered down after being let out in that manner, I suspect he will need/want to retreat there on a semi-regular basis. The mental image of Wilder going feral in that manner is cute.
