I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

I had the pleasure of reading this while it was in the proofing stage. First, hats off to EE for continuing to struggle through this with Dragon Naturally Speaking. We know his nerve issues acted up, and it's to OUR delight that we have this story presented to us.
Second, it's moving along nicely. The line between game and reality is blurred; the game players are now actors? Or are they? If this is some alternate reality, it's frightening in its detail. The characters are evolving nicely - one accidental change, and the impacts on the relationships around her, those who thought they knew that main character in the other reality. This works.
If you like Star Wars and you don't read or comment on this, I think you're missing a few screws. It's a find beginning to what I know will be a fun and very interesting story.

It made me log in and do a little leveling on my Sith warrior type. She's not as far along as some of my others... my Sage is at max level, my inquisiter and bounty hunters are both into the expansion levels, but not into the Outland content yet. And I'm reminded yet again that I haven't leveled a smuggler. Yet.

I thought I was out until the next chapter of KotFE but this lit a fire under me and now I'm levelling another Imperial Agent. Darn you! (I honestly didn't need much convincing
) Thankfully levelling has been streamlined because if I had to do more than the Class Quests and a few extra stuff to get through, I'd be jumping out of a window.
Oh right the story: It's great! I've been in a Star Wars kick and this definitely scratched a bit of that itch (if I can mix my metaphors). I cannot wait to see more.

Awesome story, I like that you went a different path from the actual game storyline.Characters seem pretty solid, and the force driven personality was a very nice touch.
Waiting with abated breath for the next installment.

Wow. ... This feels like it has a lot of potential... But, I guess the main plot is the tournament plot, and then everything else is wrapped up via epilogues.
Betting that guy who bought that drink is gonna be an opponent in the Tournament, and expose the plan or something.
Wondering what's happening back on Earth with all those other Complete Simulation users...
Typo:
"Loose" -> "Lose"

Reguarding earth, my suspicion is the "Sith" lady working for the VR company really is a Sith lady, and the setup was designed for her to recruit only certain individuals into alternate reality.

Interesting! ... And what do you think recruiting people does to the Star Wars universe? Does it revive the dead by subbing in the souls to the avatar bodies or something?

Having no idea about the game itself, I'll simply say it's a good story with some interesting characters. Keep it up.

What if the Complete Simulations representative is Darth Vannacen, as referenced by Nyeomi as being her Master (Mistress?).

Game Time-A Tale of the Star Wars comments
Comments typed up while reading story.
3 paragraphs in and already liking this person, I avoid upgrading OS when I can unless I learn it has better features and isn't buggy. Plus while I'm shy even online, I love to see people in MMORPGs actually remembering it is an RPG and roleplaying, immersing in the story. Make the game universe feel more alive. Dang, VR of the level he is describing is at least a decade or more off for the public consumer. Dang it, I've avoided playing the Old Republic but the description given has me interested now. Barely play the 4 MMORPGs on my system as it is.
Heh, he is like I was in school on the day a new episode of series I wanted to watch came out, on cruise control. With the way it is packed, sound like Complete Simulations demonstration is almost as popular as Gen-Con. Simplistic props to interact with to make the VR feel more real, wonder how soon someone will come up with that in the real world. Bounty hunter, light side Sith Warrior [very interesting], Storm Trooper, and smuggler, nice group with a lot of options.
Company woman dressed professionally, designed to put them at ease and make the guys pay attention without zoning out. Seems to know her stuff, first hint that something is up is the light side Sith Warrior guy whose character has what I believe is a girl name and the narrow belt fitting so well. The second you hear a warning like that about a VR game, run the other way unless you have to have a life changing experience. That was ominous and creepy. Brushing it off as lawyers and having to say it would have my brain screaming something is serious wrong.
Unless they have something the equal of Whateley's Arena 77 or the Danger Room, they can't account for everything you bang, trip, or react to in the VR in the real world. It would have to be much larger than most movie sets to do that. They are too excited for the chance for a full immersion experience in their MMORPG universe, they are missing at the clues and hints that something isn't right. How could a VR helmet show a 3-D recreation of something right in front of it that isn't a part of a programmed simulation?
Okay, already having uploaded their selected characters to the VR, unless they logged in from a local computer so the sim guys could link it to their specific game avatars would send alarm bells off in my head. Nice details with the description of Nyeomi and his shock at seeing all her features up close. A Sith Inquisitor, this is very not good, unless she tries to state she was acting in character, which probably won't happen.
There is VR and there is full imersion VR, where every sense is affect and you can begin to forget it isn't real. This is the latter. If only that level of VR was available in the real world, I would live out my life in the form I feel I should be and still come out to spend time with family and friends. And the medical robot, just how hard did they land when they entered the VR world. And to be able to feel what he...she is right now..*sigh* The benefits of not feeling all the wear and tear of a lifetime of health problems, how many would give up their current physical form for that.
Able to tap into the force and just make a headache and pain go away, yes please. Ah yes, the fact most people overlook. That even if you wished for a change of this level, it still take time to get used to all the changes to your body and adjust. Twin suns in the sky, ouch. I barely tollerate just the heat and sunlight of one when I got outside. Crashed vehicle and only saved by landing in soft sand, that answers my previous question.
No sign they are in the VR and could get out if trouble arises, his friend Daniel seeming like his old self, yet not. That is some drastic changes to undergo, especially for a VR sim. Over the rainbow, bwahahaha. Someone had to make that reference, I know I would have. Stewart is complaining when he gets to look like that and have nearly any woman he wants. Guess someone is starting to realize this seems like more than what a VR system could do, no matter how advanced.
I like Daniel, nothing is impossible, we have no idea what is and isn't truly possible in our own universe yet. So don't deny the facts of what are right in front of your face by trying to rationalize it away. That never works out well. Lightsabers not working the way they do in the movies, etc., yet they all seem to have changed physical forms and are on another world with two suns. The laws of physics seem to have flown out the window at this point.
Laura playing an exotic beauty, very nice description without going into too much detail. And if a blaster works how they've seen in the movies, etc., why not the lightsaber? Stewart needs to realize they aren't on Earth anymore. To hold a functioning lightsaber in your hands, in the real world we can't come close and thankfully so. Can you imagine the military outfiting units with those for the express purpose of taking down enemy vehicles?
And Stewart still is in denial, if this keeps up someone is going to have to slap him to jar him into reality. If Einstein's theory is correct and Daniel is correct about the other theories that have been put forth, does mean even internet fiction of a shared universe could become real in another universe? I chuckled at the "Is anyone else thristy?" way of Ed being casual about the whole thing. And finally Stewart realizes the truth, rats, no one had to slap him.
I like Laura's attitude, it may be dangerous but at least it is a universe she knows stuff about and better than home. Although in my case I couldn't leave my family and friends in the lurch, I would at least try to find a way to contact them and let them know I'm alive and okay. A chance at a new life, a new, fitter, healther body, would be a dream come true, but not at the cost of losing those I love. Guess that isn't the case for them, or so it seems.
Fiveareen, nice name for a droid. Figures it only knows them as their characters, so every little thing would seem off. Ed realizing the seriousness of this, who else in this world would know their characters. Have to get used to using their new names now, or it could cause a mess of trouble later. Good that one of them has military and survival training and experience, otherwise this would have been a short story.
So they are in the Old Repubic universe but not everything is like the game. Guess their insider information from having played the game just got less valueable. Teasing about playing a girl, wonder how often that happens in real life, no experience myself to compare to.
Lanaka is being needlessly cruel, there is no way that the new Nyeomi could have predicted this and saying he wanted to feel like this then interupting her when she tries to talk. The team is already falling apart and they haven't even left base camp yet. And for his own wife to do that over something no one could predict, just vindictive. Fighting off the dark side of the Force and not lashing out, that took a lot of strength.
Own brother calling her dangerious and could kill them all, does he really think Ed still isn't in there and would do something like that to those he cares for, despite how she currently feels. That is as bad as what the ex-wife said, imo. The one thing people think about desert nights, that the cold is safer than the heat of the day with the scorching sun. Until they experience it first hand. Plus stumbling about in the dark, when predators are out and who knows what else, bad idea.
Silk shirt in cold weather, yikes. If they hadn't stopped he could have died from exposure. Poor Nyeomi, you and Silas may remember being brothers but you aren't related anyone except in heart. And your new body sure doesn't know that, talk about awkward situation. Game of chance against a smuggler, if he is anything like Han Solo not a chance, ever. And even in the real world there are threats in almost any environment that have adapted to live there. Asking what could possibly live out there that would be a threat, he needs to read more or what more educational programs.
His wife played the game with him, watched Star Wars and yet doesn't know about the details of Tatooine, just how much attention was she paying to her husband. Hopefully even short range scanners can pick up any lifeforms before they get too near. Darius is really good at guessing, wouldn't want to face off against him in a game of chance.
That is a lot of data for a little pad, wonder what else it can do. Yet more details that they are in the same universe and time as The Old Republic game, I would freak out a little as well. What from the game is true and what isn't? And what cant they remember that their character would will bite them in the butt later. Nice KFC reference and joke. Silas and that grin, wonder if it has gotten him into as much trouble as out of. How they came together is shaping up nicely, bits and pieces instead of all at once works well.
Knowing what a character in a game can do and doing it yourself when you become that character, the shock would have most people frozen for at least a few seconds. Should have blown up the wrecked speeder themselves and made it look like they died in the crash. Silas' greed is going to get them in a lot of trouble. Though even if they returned the money without a fight, I have a feeling the guys after them would kill them for embarrassing them in the first place.
Darius, when someone is trying to kill you, it isn't murder to fight back with equal force. Life or death, chose life and fight. Besides, they won't give you the same courtesy. Nice use of the Force, all the skills of their characters but barely stratched the surface yet. Unless they have a flyer or someone with incredible eyesight, it is nearly the perfect ambush set-up. Two overloaded land speeders, quantity over quality in minions never works in Star Wars.
Space rednecks, just what we don't need. They lost and decided to accuss the person they lost to of cheating, a cowards act. Then they shot their ride and nearly killed them. Okay, saying such a thing to a woman like that, they are asking to be killed at this point. Underestimating their opponent and taunting her, their idiotic acts just keep coming.
Force choke and spares the scumbag, scaring them off like that they got off easy. Seeing all that and the threat they are up against, the idiot does the one line you never use against a true threat. Daniel is going to learn fast that in this universe you are going to have to kill to survive eventually.
Very nice description of the city, logical and everything the way I would imagine a desert town. Ack! Those kind of city set ups, great for RPGs and ambushes, not for the citizens to navigate. I would get so lost in that place. So many things Aces and Eights could reference to. The 2008 movie, the hand in poker, the stable in TNA Wrestling, several other things. Probably to the hand in poker, as Silas is a gambler. In better shape than I was expect, thought it might be like the Millenium Falcon with various quirks and problems. Impressive details about the ship, almost felt like I was looking at it.
Traveling in style with this ship, wonder how many pirates would try to steal her on a regular basis. Love the details like the language on the doors, makes it feel more real and alive. Her room is better than mine by far, talk about luxery. Out of danger, Nyeomi is faced with the full truth of her new body. Including the fact she can have kids, surprised she isn't more shocked. Either they have had enough time to start adjusting or the transformation into their characters came with some things to help them adjust quicker. Wonder which it is.
The Force is a bit pushy, isn't it. You are in the body of what most guys would call an alien goddess right now, about time you claimed it as yours. Okay, I want a bed like she has, mine hasn't given a nights rest like that in a long time. What guy who becomes female wouldn't explore? Anyone who says they wouldn't is either lying or has something else holding them back. A simple, yet elegant outfit, nice choice.
Poor Darius, restless night thinking about everything that happen or spent up watching the hologram records to learn all he could. Nyeomi when Ed wasn't in control is intimidating and manipulative, she is playing Silas in her own way. I have a feeling if she didn't need his help to get her master's credits she would have hurt him for trying to play her. Darius is right, thing got a whole lot more interesting.
Working for someone like Darth Malgus would make all but the most cold-hearted, ruthless individuals nervous. Darius' background helps him to adjust to the new world easily. Good thing Nyeomi has a strong will and forced the dark side of the Force down, otherwise it would have gotten messy. Darius isn't saying something abut Nyeomi's ex-wife, this is going to blow up in his face later. Decide who you are, easy for someone to say or tell you to do, not so easy to actually do for some people. Even without all of those things hanging over Nyeomi's head it can be hard.
Little time to think about it, but she must when she has time. The dilemma she is faced with, at least she has friends by her side. With all the Buddist stuff from Daniel aka Darius, I never saw that line coming from him, talk about raunchy. At least it cheered up Nyeomi and made her realize one of the 1st things she needs to figure out. Nice to see everyone starting to lighten up after the tense start to their adventure together.
Nice details with the cockpit description, wonder what it feel like to sit at the pilot seat of such a vehicle. And more proof they have the knowledge, experience and skills of their characters but so far only when directly trying to bring them out or in a situation or environment they would be needed. 30 minutes to get ready regularly, 5 minutes if rushed with shortcut; I would go crazy after seeing how simple a car's controls are relatively. I have a feeling if she wants to keep the Aces and Eights, she will have to betray her master and become a masterless Sith, traveling with Silas throughout the universe.
Guess they had a little bit of luck on their side to make to town on the speeder without it conking out. The other presence was the original Nyeomi Fens all along, now that is a twist I didn't see coming. Ouch, my head hurts now. She either imagined him or he imagined her into existence, talk about a mindbending statement. Ack! So she is the Force created by her mind as defense mechanism to keep from going mad. Basically argueing with herself and on the brink of madness if she doesn't learn to accept her life and body. The question more people in fiction with a TG transformation need to have their character ask.
Made Darth rank by 22, dang. Can see why at least someone is keeping at eye on her. Nyeomi is the kind of person who all military branches wish their troops could be. A lighthearted Sith who was fueled by lust, yeah, never seen that in canon if Disney has a say. A Sith Lord who smiled, she was definately different. Stupid lore that says the stupid must kill the master, always felt that was a weak area of the Sith lore for Star Wars. How did they expect to overtake the Jedi if there were only ever two of them.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hehehe, I know after I comment like that I would have tripped him. That description of Tatooine sounds right, even for the history starting with A New Hope, always felt lawless. Everyone having a weapon on a planet like that is just common sense and part of daily survival. Lanaka has gotten cocky and arrogant with her transformation, never tick off someone with a large army when you can help it.
Lanaka doesn't realize they have all the skills and abilities of their characters, just embrace it and they can pull this off. She is so afraid of death, she just wants to hide away in a little corner of the galaxy or living on the run, she doesn't realize living in fear and just running away from troubles with only compound them later on. Plus she is only thinking of herself, not of what would happen to Nyeomi or the others if they are found out and caught.
I bet Bibo has had to break up more than his fair share of brawls at his own tavern. At least Nyeomi realized why the guy brought her a drink, some are too dense to even do that and just think it because the guy is nice. I don't trust this Torm Belos, could he really be attracted to Nyeomi and that is it. Or is it something more, could he be in league with the Hutts or be plotting to rip her and her friends off, seen too many smooth conmen not to be suspicious.
Arggggh! Not intimidated, keeping up with the smooth moves and lines. If he tries to slip his hand around her, she will punch him, I hope. Brushing him off, only to see the ex-wife glaring over with a look of jealousy, even before you read it you know she is going to flirt with the guy just to get back at Lanaka. Process Executive for a company that probably has connections to the Hutts, bad news with the line about having to use violence sometimes. Flirting went too far, abort, abort!
Definately straight as Nyeomi and gotten herself in too deep flirting with this guy, when are the others going to notice and come bail her out. Just when it seems she might do something she will regret, thankfully Darius shows and says they are leaving. She gets bailed out, perfect chance to never risk being around this guy again, and she goes and flirts with him again by saying it will be excellent to see him again. She needs some lessons on being a woman and fast, only hope is Lanaka won't be too upset and realize she should help her ex out.
And Lanaka proves to be the least likeable character once again, starting a catfight over jealousy, talk about petty. She really needs to get ahold of herself and realize she is messing with fire by taunting Nyeomi. The Presence, the side of her trying to force her to accept who she is, needs to learn how to word things better and not leave the poor woman a weeping heep. Negative reinforcement like that will only make her break faster. Vivid dreams involving a man she feels attracted to, can she why she never got to sleep. Confusion over conflicting emotions can wear at you.
Buying back into good graces with food, one of the few things which work. Yeah, I live in Louisiana and would hate to face desert heat, like being baked in an oven is what I imagine it like. Faster than what Luke did with the drone and it is too easy, Nyeomi has got dangerous skills. Wonder if the blindfold is enought to make it a challenge. Blocking every shot blindfolded, sensing everything around her, wish I could experience that. Lanaka watching her was unexpected, at she wishes to talk.
Ouch, now we know the source of Lanaka's pain and frustation, anyone treated like that would become bitter and angry unless they have a very positive attitude. Ed, open mouth, insert foot. Bad choice of analogy. Ignoring her emotions and acting like a droid, not healthy, she has to talk things out with Lanaka instead of one or the other just storming off every time they get upset. Game time is over indeed. Can't wait to read the next part of this story.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.
