Question When does Jade become such a prankster?

    • I keep reading comments that Jade is up there with Beltane as a prankster and I was wondering when approximately she develops that reputation. Right now, I read almost every story down to Jade 6 on the 2006-07 page of the wiki, and the Jade stories are getting sparser, stopping after Jade 9. From what I saw, I would qualify her as resourceful, but not a prankster. Is there more stories with her as the main point of view?

    • Hum I think the Ayla's story "Ayla and the great angel shoulder conspiracy" might have "helped" a lot regarding this prankster reputation. this prank has caught on like wildfire, schoolwide and has even affected the staff so ...

    • It starts with the Great Cabbit Chase. Other bits show up here and there, a lot of which is things that are just mentioned in passing.

    Like Esar said, a bunch comes out in Ayla and the Great Angel Shoulder Conspiracy, and the Ayla stories that follow that one. But a bunch is much more subtle, like her weaponry. A lot of the reputation comes from the way she looks at problems sideways.

    Christmas Elves is from Fey and Jade's POV, The Christmas Crisis isn't really from Jade/Cabbit's POV but she is prominent. And the Wondercute stories.

    Elrod also pushed Jade's pranks in Poe.

    • Jade does play some pranks but I don't know that I'd ever really classify her as a prankster. She's crazy, she is a catalyst for crazy, and when she's involved things degenerate into the sort of chaos that you see in a heavy prank war.... but where it breaks down is with the planned out one upmanship and manipulation of things that pranking involves. With Jade... you can pretty much skip straight to 'oh my gods, I can't believe you took it that far!' And while she uses tools, equipment, and so forth in unique and unexpected ways... that's rarely a matter of trying to make fun or humiliate someone. She simply doesn't think in straight lines.

    But ya... some people might point at the shoulder angels or the cabbit as her 'early' big pranks... but take a look at WHY she did those things.

    • Reading the Ayla track is a good way to move through the Winter quarter. I don't personally recommend trying to read year one via one character at a time though... I'm a fan of reading everything in the order it was published (which is what you get if you go to the original timeline via the menu, finding the last page and working your way forward... or just clicking on the story list to sort the publish date in the oldest first instead of newest first). Or alternately, reading in the order recommended by the WIKI crew. Enjoy!

    • Thanks. I've been reading everything chronologically up until now, so I know I'm on the right track. I'll need a few years to catchup though.

    • Well, ya have to admit, Jade's power of charging copies of herself into objects makes for some really wild pranking opportunities. Her skewed thinking just makes her unpredictable actions seem like pranks gone to far more often than not.

    that expanded it, but the great cabbit chase Babs wrote started it on campus.
    The mall incident where Jade avoids her dad is likely the first Jade as prankster incident. The "fly" sitting on the brim of dad's ball cap in order to track his movements.

    Jade's 'prankster' reputation is mostly by reputation. The majority of her pranks are 'noodle instances', referred to but not written, or just not mentioned in the stories at all. She is a prankster, because it's Canon that she is a prankster.

    As to when she started pranking? Well, that was when she discovered she had an indestructible, invisible self that could move about independantly, picking up, moving and animating anything she liked. Since she could prank practically anyone, anyway she wanted, her pranks are basically only limited by her imagination, and well, Jade doesn't suffer from lack of imagination.

    • I think it's partially her unpredictability and irreverence. I mean, even when she's doing what she's supposed to do, she finds a way to confound and/or amuse whoever is around her. Like when she sent a bunch of gloves to serve dinner, instead of a persona.wearing a full body, such as Jinn. It wasn't quite a prank, but added to her reputation. Even the way she took on the Syndicate base at Christmas had shades of prankishness all over it. I mean, impersonating zombies? "Vampire princess, at least"? And bothering to invent silly titles for Fey at a time when they were literally fighting for their lives?
    Not to mention her greatest prank ever... turning a demon into a human baby.

    • And after the Great Cabbit Chase, when she offers up her Lion to be beaten after saying she feels no pain, then screaming in pain when she is hit. Her super wedgie centipedes, her "degravitator." Most of her silly but effective weapons, and the odd uses she finds for them.

    • I get the feeling that the radioactive condor incident and much of team wondercute's antics could count towards her prankster rep. After all not many can prank the faculty and get away with it.
