  • I was wondering if I could get some clarification and expounding on the powers and personalities and potential and short term goals of the New Olympians after graduation.

Even better, where they are during gen 2, but unless they show up in a story, i peg that as... insanely unlikely.

If you've noticed my Titans fanfic, you might guess why I'm interested.

Their wiki entries often come off feeling incomplete, often providing powers ratings without a full explanation of what those powers actually equate to or mean. Aphrodite and Hermers are apparently the closest to their original power levels, but their power data doesn't look all that incredible. In addition, Tracer demonstrated some kind of teleport or speedster looking power during the Make/Overclock incident that isn't mentioned in categorized with his power ratings.

  • We are very deliberately minimizing who or what we carry forward in Gen 2. It's been a lot of 'intense discussion' on any character we pull forward, and we're very vague on anyone else. No-one is going to tell you the fate of any student or group of students, so unless you see a student or group show up explicitly in Gen 2, we won't talk.

Sorry, but if we tell you all kinds of details, it's huge spoilers for things-yet-to-happen in Gen 1.

  • Gotcha...

Can you give me anything on them as of start of semester Fall '07 in Gen 1? Mostly powers or goals. If not, I get it, but I figure I'll ask.

  • Well we do know that Counterpoint has a hard on for Cait after the whole Galatea incident. And we also know that at every turn he gets punked until he eventually gets smashed in a final battle so to speak. So there's one.

  • Are they present in Fall 07? Yes. Doing what? Not sure - they're not my characters.

If you're writing fan-fic, do with them what your plot needs. Chances are high that it won't match what happens with the canon story, but the whole idea of fan-fic is kind of an alternate-ending / alternate reality thing, so have at it.

An interesting option might be someone telling a story about them. It could be a fictional story told by characters in the cannon universe.

  • What about the three missing Olympians - yes, three, since the usual list of Olympians includes Demeter as well as Poseidon and (depending on the myth) either Hestia or Dionysus - but not Hades. Oddly enough, while we've talked about who might be Poseidon or Dionysus (Overload, maybe? Or one of the Dylans?), I don't think Demeter has been mentioned, and the possibility that Hestia rather than Dionysus being the twelfth Olympian has mostly been ignored.

My guesses? I suspect Kraken is Poseidon, as I've hinted elsewhere - he may have been delayed because of his original host's death. My guess that neither Dionysus nor Hestia was the twelfth who escaped; instead, I offer that someone such as Fran Barnes , Blackrose , or even Silver Rose is Demeter, and the reason she's been able to hide is because the other 'Lympies were all looking for Dionysus instead. My guess is that Circe warned her off about the others early on, which would be why she's not contacted them.

(I seem to recall yet another plant manifestor or manipulator, who was working with Grounds in one story and whom Ayla was thinking of hiring for something, but I can't find the reference.)

Or better yet, it's Winnie, and she doesn't know it... though I would buy plant-based powers rather than power over ley lines as the more likely possibility.

Another alternative is that Demeter's first host died, but later than would have been the case in my earlier speculation about Kraken, such that her new host is a Gen 2 character such as Flower or Blackberry. If you haven't guessed yet, I rather like the idea of one of the 'Lympies ending up as an Underdog...

  • The origin story for Feral and the other New Olympians was never officially published before Liliandra... disappeared. All we have (had?) is a few excerpts that were posted in the old forums, and which we aren't sure if we are legally allowed to repost.

Still, some of us have saved copies of it.

Zeus, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Hera, Hades, Hermes are namechecked at the beginning, and Liliandra explicitly introduces Artemis, Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, Hades, Hermes, Hephaestus and Ares, with their respective civilian IDs and mutant codenames.

Neither Dionysus nor Poseidon are mentioned in my copy, although I suppose it's possible that Liliandra has given the complete list to the other canon authors at some point.

You are correct in that the classical listings of the Twelve rarely listed Hades as one of them, and usually listed Demeter as one of the Twelve. The last spot was usually taken by Hestia or Dionysus, although I remember seeing mentions that at some point Herakles started showing up instead. I remember some speculation back in the old forums (before the "missing two" being officially named as Poseidon and Dionysus) that the reason they didn't show up was that maybe, just maybe, they were still getting some power from worship -- Demeter from the Chicago Board of Trade, Poseidon from superstitious sailors, Dionysus from drunkards..)

Still, Liliandra was under no compulsion to use one of the classic formations of the Dodecatheon. The origin story excerpts makes it clear that the New Olympians are the ones who escaped, not necessarily the twelve classic ones, and they are in the process of turning themselves into a new pantheon. In fact, it does not mention them being "twelve" at any point, nor mentioned there being two other "lost ones" when Artemis was found.

HOWEVER, Liliandra also mentioned that her main draft had already diverged somewhat from the posted excerpts, but that that draft was in a computer with no Internet (Liliandra was in the military) and transferring the files was a bit involved. It's quite likely that she submitted an outline to the other canon authors at some point, in which she gave a complete listing -- and that was the source the other Canon authors used for naming Poseidon and Dionysus.

OK, the point about the New Olympians being the ones who escaped is a valid one. I have read the fragment of "Wild Times" and knew that, but I had the impression that, to some degree, Zeus tried to pick out certain ones to help escape during the window when the hole appeared in the imprisoning spells. Looking at it again, though, I see that the ones who escaped had pretty much done so instinctively during the period when the seal was weakened, and that by the time they'd realized they were out, the seal had reformed behind them as it were.

Wild Times wrote: The tremor was mild; most people barley even noticed it. However, upon the once fabled home of the gods, the tremor was enough to cause a minor landslide. The falling rocks never made it too far down the mountainside, but they did shift a stone pillar, worn by centuries of weather, out of its position. It was only an inch, but it was enough for the force that it had been blocking. The air rippled and fluxed wildly for several seconds before smoothing again, leaving a group of people standing on the small ledge.

“Finally,” One of them, a tall, white bearded man, groused. “I was beginning to think that seal would never break.”

“It hasn’t,” A younger looking man, his hair as blonde as the sun, commented from his kneeling position by the stone. “The seal has been weakened significantly, but it’s still there. The others are still trapped.”

“Let the weaklings remain trapped then. We have an empire to return to.”

  • I'm thinking that the Lympies in my Elseworld will be the Roman versions of them. Meaning the might end up more of a threat.

  • OK, I know a bit of mythology but I'm unclear on why the Roman gods would be more dangerous than the Greek ones. Other than the cultural aspect, that is -- Greeks were a bunch of city-states who weren't particularly empire-bent, but Romans were a a conquering empire. Which, I suppose, would make their gods, as a reflection of the society, more... militant?

OTOH, the pre-Christian Romans had a rather live-and-let-live attitude regarding other peoples' gods and religions, and often adopted them into their own pantheon. The Greek-Roman syncretism itself is part of this. Apparently Isis was once a rather popular goddess in Rome. Wouldn't that tend to make the Roman New Olympians more... tolerant and accepting of outsiders?

  • Hadn't thought of it like that Sir. The first bit you have is pretty close to my line of thinking (I blame the Rick Riordan Percy Jackson novels as well) I hadn't considered your second spin. That does open up for an appearance of a June and Jason who are not Gods incarnate if they NOG decided Meh our time is done. That might be more interesting.
