I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
Thomas Jefferson, to Archibald Stuart, 1791

It is more than just his trope, if he thought that he was being at all rude to anyone even a foe, he would be unable to function.

If you were to meet him in real life and find him so insufferable, you should just tell him "More of your conversation would infect my brain.” (The Comedy of Errors, 2.1.91)

Having trouble with that? Allow me...
O Romeo, Romeo, where are ya'll Romeo?
Just say no to yer daddy and his last name!
Oh, if'n ya can't, just swear you love me
And I won't be a Capulet once we're hitched and all!
We been feud'n with ya'lls ken,'
but yer just you, not yer name.
What is a Montague any how? It ain't a hand or a foot
It ain't your arm, or yer face or...other bits
that a man has. Mmm, just be some other name, baby,
What's in a name? A rose is a rose after all
and call'n something it ain't don't change the smell
So ya'll would if you weren't called Romeo
I just want yer body, not yer names!
So take off that name and yer clothes for that matter!
Come and git me!

Anne wrote: And for most everyone except Fey that would work. For Fey? Prolly have to remind him several times that even properly used, archaic does not necessarily equate to formal. Use good manners and most of the time formality has been done...
For Fey, well, she should look into some of those books about how to train a puppy...

Maybe he even has a slight religious fixation that makes it more apt to come out. Like I said, I get from Stalwart the whole knight in shiny armor vibe. He'll smite those he sees as evildoers or those attacking Fey, and apologize while doing it, because he believes, or maybe even has a BIT that insists that while violence may be necessary it ought to be the very last resort.
