  • Just a quick question: does anyone else think Stalwart is a prick??? Or even better, exactly like this: Sword Art Online Abridged's Godfrey

    EDIT: Watch until he dies

EDIT OF EDIT: That is, Godfrey.

  • Out of curiosity, what makes you say that? Paul might be a tad clueless and more than a little naive, but I wouldn't consider him a prick. That, to my mind, requires intent, but I am interested in hearing how you reached your conclusion.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

  • I can see calling Paul (Stalwart) a dork, because he is somewhat of one. A prick, a dick, or some other intentional behavior that is boorish? Not on your life, Stalwart is a Paladin.
It is more than just his trope, if he thought that he was being at all rude to anyone even a foe, he would be unable to function.

  • I would have to put him in the "utterly clueless" and "socially inept" category instead of the "prick" category. He tries to do the right thing, he is just awkward as hell and seems to think in glorified Shakespearean terms.

If you were to meet him in real life and find him so insufferable, you should just tell him "More of your conversation would infect my brain.” (The Comedy of Errors, 2.1.91)

  • And for most everyone except Fey that would work. For Fey? Prolly have to remind him several times that even properly used, archaic does not necessarily equate to formal. Use good manners and most of the time formality has been done...

  • And for a touch of irony, according to some linguists (don't ask me how they figured this out), but the purest survival of English as it was spoken during Shakespeare's time is found in-

O Romeo, Romeo, where are ya'll Romeo?
Just say no to yer daddy and his last name!
Oh, if'n ya can't, just swear you love me
And I won't be a Capulet once we're hitched and all!
We been feud'n with ya'lls ken,'
but yer just you, not yer name.
What is a Montague any how? It ain't a hand or a foot
It ain't your arm, or yer face or...other bits
that a man has. Mmm, just be some other name, baby,
What's in a name? A rose is a rose after all
and call'n something it ain't don't change the smell
So ya'll would if you weren't called Romeo
I just want yer body, not yer names!
So take off that name and yer clothes for that matter!
    Come and git me!

For Fey, well, she should look into some of those books about how to train a puppy...

  • I went and watched it. Not sure how you get Stalwart other than the mangled middle English. Rather late middle or early modern English really, and not written by someone who had studied the rules or at least the extant books containing the language in print if not in use. Stalwart fractures his usage too, probably because he thinks to be a Paladin he has to use archaic language...
Maybe he even has a slight religious fixation that makes it more apt to come out. Like I said, I get from Stalwart the whole knight in shiny armor vibe. He'll smite those he sees as evildoers or those attacking Fey, and apologize while doing it, because he believes, or maybe even has a BIT that insists that while violence may be necessary it ought to be the very last resort.

  • If you liked SAO Abridged, watch from episode one. I started the episode partway through. They are currently working on episode 13, and have started the ALO arc. In this version, Kirito is a sociopathic A-hole, Asuna is also a sociopath, but also doesn't know how to open the menu, Agil is called Tiffany and is...pretty much the same, except with a fear of Asuna because she uses a fake gangsta lexicon when talking to him, Klein created his character as a joke, and has the unfortunate screen name of BallsDeep69, but retains his friendship with Kirito; Silica is a berserker who freaks when her pet dies; Lizbeth is a agoraphobia who refuses to leave her blacksmith shop, and then falls in love with Kirito; the Moonlit black cats are called 'the gang' and compose of two players and three NPC's plus Kirito; Laughing Coffin are a group of bible-quoting serial killers who no one takes seriously; Heathcliff quotes old movies; there's a cat who learned to play; the entire thing is a fix fic as well as a parody; the series has ammassed popularity to the point where people have nicknamed Canon Klien Ballsy after his abridged counterpart; and there is actually a ending that isn't 'I forgot why I trapped you all here in the first place'. Really, it's possibly the best abridged anime ever.
