  • How much does Dr. Bellows know?

'Cause in Chou's Origin Story, he seems to know about the Taoist Immortals, which I wouldn't expect as I think it's fairly esoteric knowledge?

Heather Malley / Chou / Destiny's Wave wrote: "Chou blinked and then smiled. It looked like she still had a family. “It’s good news. Also He Xiangu and Guan Yu are going to be visiting me from time to time.”

Dr. Bellows nodded slowly. “I see. Well, this will be new for the school. Not too many Immortals come by for a chat. Should be fun. Now, here are the things you need to get access to your money. And I was wondering if you have any problems you might want to talk about? I was wondering if anything was bothering you since you lost your father and got transformed?”"

Or is he just making it seem like he knows about them, and is just keeping Chou talking and stuff? Or, he got the info from his ESPer power?

  • I'd say he did some quick reading when he found out about Chou. He's probably also very well read considering the students and situations he deals with everyday. You can learn a lot reading for even two or three minutes between meetings, if you have enough meetings during the day.

That is a fairly wide open question. As head of the Whateley Psychology Department, he knows a lot. As Chou's counselor, he was very likely well briefed on her situation, and possibly even had a talk with one of the Immortals before she arrived.

He is one of the staff that is informed of the secret of Poe.

  • I realize that Dr. Bellows is the head of the Psych department, but seriously how many of him are there? It seems that whenever someone has a problem they are sent to see Dr. Bellows, not any of the other on hand real counselors. I mean some of the other counselors I wouldn't send Belphegor to for help. I wouldn't send Jadis to, and she seems about the stablest student on campus.

  • My impression was that Dr. Bellows tends to focus on the Poe and Hawthorne kids, while the other students get more attention from the other counselors. But he's the best, so the really serious cases get passed up to him. And we see pretty much exclusively the Poe, Thorny, and ultra serious cases.

  • Doesn't matter how much he knows, as long as he doesn't let the geenie out of the bottle.

We also learn he's helping a Grunge kid in Spring, and a Young Squirrel’s Fancy…. ... He treats Aquerna only 'cause he was the first one available.

  • Bellows is obviously the Morpheus Collective in disguise...:D

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • It's canon that there are two more counselors, but being the department head and the more experienced psychiatrist (I believe at least one of the others stems from a different professional line), he gets the more serious, or more interesting cases.

Jade might have been assigned to him just due to being a "traditional" transgender girl... or it may have been due to the power testers seeing that attacking her power analysis from a psychological aspect might be valuable.

Sometimes is a matter of things shuffling around until they drop in his lap. Ayla, for instance, came to him just for academic advice because he didn't get along with his previous advisor -- but ended up having a mini-meltdown in front of Bellows, which led him to take Ayla as a patient. Aquerna was just luck of the draw.

But I think that part of it is that he does take his job very seriously, to the point that he regularly overworks himself rather than let a kid without help. His coworkers might not be quite so dedicated. So, instead of getting like 33% of the workload, he may be getting as much as 40%.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Also bear in mind many of the kids get a periodic eval, without the need for continuous therapy. Jericho, for instance, gets a cursory evaluation, the docs realize he makes noise to draw attention from people who would otherwise pick on diamondback or get themselves shredded by a razor rage.
