  • For some reason, I've tried twice to reset my password at BCTS and I cannot do it. I got their link, clicked the 'login' button and it redirected me and said you're not authorized to view this page! Huh! I requested the link for a password reset, and it doesn't work? Does anyone here have a more direct line to Erin and Piper, maybe somehow I'm doing something wrong?
Is anyone else having trouble accessing BCTS? Is it 'cause I try to kill all cookies when I log off the web?
What did I do wrong this time!?!

  • They've been having a number of issues recently, and I think someone may have hacked them on top of just general server problems. But no, there's no staff overlap between us... we may have been hosted by them for a while after Bob passed, but the relationship has never been better than 'strained', sadly.

  • Well Ratz! I hoped that maybe someone would be able to tell me what might be going on. I got about halfway through the login it looks like. When I go to the section where it would show if I'm logged in it says, Visitor logged in, unverified. I know some time ago they used to have a 'back door' so to speak, a public log in where you could log in as a guest reader, but I've not kept the particulars of that at the top of my mind. Seems like the user name was something like guest reader, and the password for that was bigcloset. But whether it had spaces, capitol letters, etc IDR....

  • Looks like they were in the midst of moving parts of the site to cloud hosting, Now that it is finished, you might try again... see if its resolved?

  • I've got to have a cookie on my computer that failed to clear. What I'm getting when I go to the site is: Visitor, logged in not verified. But that is from the moment I bring up the site. It crosses all browsers, FF, Opera and Chrome. So I think it is on my end, but haven't another machine to check it against. Anyway, thanks for your help. I guess that windoze 10 just has quirks that I can't find the cure for.

  • I went through the same issue my self.

I ended up creating a second account and messaged Erin. The were have some database error issues that seem to re-rear there head every so often. Piper is still trying to hunt the bug down and squash it for good.
And as a server Admin for a mall company I cn tell you server errors and bug zapping is an endless quest, that will never end.
I like both communities, but this one has the the advantage of just focusing on one primary thing Whateley.

  • I suspect that part of what happened (it is gone now) is that my computer crashed while I was logged into the site, and that somehow left them with a cookie that recognized my 'address' but since I regularly clear my cache I no longer had a 'matching' cookie... My guess any way! Thanks for the advice.

*nods* And I have done my damndest to avoid going the route to overly customizing. That means we continue to benefit from standard security and feature updates without having to reapply all of our own custom elements and bring those up to date with the new code every time we want to upgrade a little. BCTS does things in a number of non-standard ways and that makes upgrades and migrations harder, especially migrating their database of users and stories.

There are some aspects of this site and build that I'd love to change, I had very little familiarity with Joomla when I first set this up after all... I was just working on more or less desperation mode at the time, trying to get something up to replace the hacked site while the community was still willing to give us the benefit of the doubt. With what I know now, the site would be a lot more flexible and powerful... even without getting into customization/coding. But moving to that now? going to be a challenge, because some of the things, once integrated, don't come back out easily... and especially rebuilding the security framework, may be easier with a fresh start than trying to migrate over existing data. And ugh... I really don't want to migrate over all the data again.
