  • Fandom is changing the URL for the Wiki from crystalhall.wikia.com to crystalhall.fandom.com. I'm not sure what we need to change on here to adjust, so this is a heads-up.

Edit: see Sir Lee's notes at the WikiWikiWiki forum for a more detailed look at what this may involve. Do we have a volunteer for handling TvTropes, assuming that they don't simply do a mass update themselves (possible - we're unlikely to be the only ones on TvTropes that's affected).

  • I'll fix the menu link next time I'm logged into the admin side IF the link's on wikia/fandom's side of things are already up?

I don't know what to tell you with TVTropes... I haven't spent much time there, especially recently so I don't know what they would do.

  • I am the main TVTropes editor, I think, but Schol-R-Lea does more edits for the series' pages?

The main impacts would be TheWikiRule entries, under Trivia, and I'll fix that when it happens.

    TVTropes doesn't cite wikis, IIRC.

I think, it'll auto-redirect to the new site anyway? Not 100% sure, though.

Find some Fandom pages, change the URL, to check?

    AFK, atm.

  • FYI. Just confirmed that auto-redirect from Wikia to Fandom is a thing, as seen when you try pages like this:

    epicbattlefantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Heart_Pin

  • So, it would not be really urgent to change the link from the main page (I'm not even considering changing links from old posts). But still, it would be good to do so, because who knows how long they will keep the redirects working? One week, one month, one year, one decade...?

  • wikia.com is a valid domain through 12/9/2020 and still owned by the same people as fandom.com... they may be rebranding, but it doesn't look like they're trying to rush things any.

I just got the notification that the migration has been done. crystalhall.fandom.com/wiki/Whateley_Academy_Wiki now works.

As far as wikia.com goes, the original note said they were retaining it for "non-fan" wikis, of which there are apparently quite a few. I don't know how long they will keep redirecting, although, since they're apparently going to keep the domain indefinitely, they may well keep the redirects in place. Or not. I don't try to understand what the insane marketing types do.

  • Actually, the "non-fan" domains will not remain in wikia.COM. They will be migrated at a later date to wikia.ORG.
