  • The upload times are quite inconvenient for european readers and I don't know how many of all readers are located in europe but I feel like it is probably a lot. So I would ask you to upload a couple hours earlier so new stories are not available at 2 a.m. on tuesday though I am fine with 11 p.m. on friday.
A couple hours earlier should lead to noon-ish in the US instead of the afternoon if I'm not mistaken but it would leave east asia with very early morning hours. This request is entirely selfish and one would have to look who is reading where if you want to change the upload times at all. Just saying it would be nice to read a fresh story without abandoning a proper night's sleep. I should be in bed by 2 a.m. anyway but that is another topic.

  • I suspect that, since Kristin handles the uploads (unless someone gainsays me on that..), the schedule for upload times is dictated by her work schedule. Therefor it has little if any flexability.

  • I'll admit that I don't entirely understand the impulse to consume the story the very instant it comes out. If you stay awake until 2 am, then from your perspective you've actually waited longer to read the story than if you had gone to bed at midnight and then read it first thing in the morning. Stories don't get stale, and they don't sell out. A few hours is not a huge difference.

  • It is sort of like the fresh hot tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant... Once the server sets those hot and crispy chips down you just HAVE to eat them NOW! (seriously, self control vanishes when the chips and salsa arrive) I get off from work and finish supper, then on posting days I am sitting here waiting for my fresh, hot, crispy chips (stories). The only thing better than seeing a fresh story posted and diving in is seeing two posted! That's like getting a free order of cheese dip!!!

  • Oh, great! Now I've got a craving for fresh chips and salsa, a mix of salsa roja and salsa verde, and maybe a little queso!

    Thanks a lot

  • You do realize that the most likely solution to this would be that I would set up a system that releases the story at say, 5 pm Monday for everyone. No matter what your time zone. In which case, those people who reach 5 pm 'first' would get it up to 23 hrs before those who are already past that point when the release is allowed out the door. Then we'd have people using proxy's and time spoofing to trick the server into giving them the story from a time zone that has already opened instead of waiting for their real release to happen.

The releases are set up at the times they are because, while we have the ability to preset releases, inevitably something can (and will) go wrong. If something goes wrong and I'm not available to fix it, you get NO story. So it is generally a pretty smart decision to have updates scheduled when I'm available to correct problems.

Did you know? Less than 10% of our readership even visits the site on release day.

  • No matter what you do, nor how well you do it, there will always be someone who complains about what you do. I'm guilty as sin in this case for not educating myself and then complaining when a feature or service I'd like is not available.... But upload times? That is something that no one should complain about, you get a free story...! When it comes out if you're asleep, then you wake up to something that will entertain you.

Of course, this mattered more when we were relying on advertisements to pay the bills.

Still, for the purposes of tracking activity and knowing how our community uses the site and such... 'most' readers are probably far less interested in release times and days than they are in bookmarks to keep track of where they are in reading through the collection... or in having eBook collections that allow them to grab two or three novels worth of material at a time.
