I was just wondering whether the old large smilies hadn't been implemented because adding them would be challenging or because they are low on the priorities list. Or both.

adding them wouldn't be challenging, just time consuming.
editing the code to recognize the larger smilies is easy, just very very time consuming.
and I have a collection of smilies from open source site scripts that is pretty large I have gotten frustrated editing the code to add new smilies because it is so time consuming.

There's a built in emoticon addition tool for the forums so it is actually quite 'easy' to add additional ones to the system. It's simply a matter of uploading the images and associating them to a code for use. The down side is that it doesn't do batch uploads. So I would have to manually upload every emoticon that we wanted to include. Am I willing to do so? Yes. Within reason. If someone were willing to prepare a collection of emoticons for me to open in a folder locally and upload on an evening when I can just add them one at a time interspersed with working on other things along with a list of codes connected to filename of emoticon that don't conflict with any existing emoticon (I don't want to replace anything already here, but I'm willing to add 'more')... I'd be happy to do so. So that you know what already exists and what codes are in use:

Note, some images have multiple codes currently set pointing at the same image... so I could certainly reassign 'those' codes to different emoticon versions. The actual list could be... extensive... if you want. just be sure the codes aren't too much of a pain to set up/type in.

The large smilies are something I added. I still have em too I'll look to see how difficult it would be to add them to the system again.

I never really liked the large smilies much. I always thought they seemed kind of overblown and obnoxious. (Sorry, Warren.)

Silly thought: I wonder how the forums (fora?) cope with the Unicode implementation of emoticons (aka emoji) - I suspect they probably just display the black and white outline versions (since desktop support for Emoji is sketchy at best)...
[EDIT] They kill emoji - oh well, worth a try

It might be that it depends on the fonts you have installed in your system. I don't care enough about the subject to bother testing it, however.
Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

Ya... I need to scold Warren when I catch him next time. He replaced the existing emoticons with those. so there are a couple of emoticons in the system now that can't be accessed at all.

Likewise, how am I suppose to be properly sadistic when writing about my characters if I can't have big evil grins?elrodw wrote: I really LIKED big Twisted and big Evil. They added so much character to my "evil villain laugh # 2"
