If you want to learn more about how Joomla works, go spend some time on the Joomla web site. It's open source. There are complete documents on how the database is set up and so forth. In general, what you are seeing is the interaction between the default Joomla, Kunena forums, and Community Builder. .. each of which handle the user profile slightly differently. It has nothing to do with anything but admin and site operation.

In general, you shouldn't f--- around with it. Use the site as it is designed to be used. If you start exploring things that might become visible IF you put the right combination of php calls together to reveal content that isn't meant for you; and I find out you're doing it... your next bit of exploration into how things work is going to be proxies... because your home IP address is going to be banned. And that's if *I* find out. Warren's a lot less forgiving about hacking/security issues than I am.

It's things like this that cause administrators to use features that change the visible url.

There is a setting for away. But it doesn't mean anything if people don't stay connected and set themselves to away... away is != idle
