  • Some of you guys have heard that I was fighting for custody of my daughter for the last year and a half, well it's done.

After a year and a half of all kinds of crap and demands, my ex finally got it pushed through her head that she didn't have a leg to stand on and became reasonable. So as of yesterday we have a tentative agreement where I have full custody and she has visitation rights in the summer.
You have no idea how relieved I am that I don't have to worry about losing my daughter to an abusive woman.

Now I just have to catch up on all the sleep I've lost for the last year.

  • It might be a little succinct but I think it conveys what is important : Congratulation and I hope you and your daughter will be happy.

  • I hate being the person who has to think about things like this, but the first few dollars you can scrape together, buy your daughter some kind of internet-enabled device that is wearable and GPS trackable. There is a cottage industry in assisting women kidnapping their children and involving custodial interference and I would hate for your daughter disappear in this way. As I said the device should be GPS trackable, and something she would wear such as an Iwatch or some other innocuous looking electronic jewelry. It should serve other functions besides being trackable so that she has use of it and has enough cool factor that she shall not take it off.

You will be in my prayers.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

A big thumbs-up for that. Abusive people have a tendency to regard their victims as 'their property'

    Thanks.
My lawyer already advised the GPS, I'm going to get one that I can put in her shoe almost everything else can be left behind or changed easily, but shoes are very necessary. I may also get her a charm bracelet with a GPS.
She's also getting a kids cell phone with four numbers for the police, myself and my parents.
The main sticking point was on the visitations being in my hometown, 3,500 people, no airport and a minimum 3 hours away from any city with only a highway going east and west. I call them or see them physically every 3 hours to ensure they're where they should be and if they aren't I call police for an Amber Alert and the highway gets a roadblock and all the cars checked.
The first few times they meet, I'm going to set them up for playdates with some of my daughters friends and then question the other parents about how they acted as well as watching from a distance to make sure everything is OK. I don't think my ex is stupid enough to try anything and she was only physically abusive towards me, but I'm playing it as safe as I can.

Still even with these worries, I'm feeling more relaxed then i can reasonably remember.

I know how long you've been fighting this, I hope your ex doesn't try again.

    Good luck man.

  • Congrats on the win there.

I'll admit, I haven't heard about the case, and maybe shame on me for that, but by what I hear just in this post, if it got to that point, and you had to fight so long, it must have been incredibly challenging.

I hope you and your daughter have a good time and a good life together. I'm sure you'll protect her well. I wish you all the luck in the world. I'd tell you to relax, but I know you have a lot of work to do even now. But you can be happy, and you deserve that.

    Good luck. :)

  • Do make sure you are getting a quality GPS locater, there are companies selling "GPS trackers" that aren't. Of course this might be useful, if not necessarily legal.

  • Technical addendum:

Whatever device you pick, make sure it is in fact a GPS device, i.e. it is talking to the GPS satellite network. Many devices claim to be a flavor of GPS which is actually using cellular tower triangulation given the approximate location within several hundred feet up to half a mile depending upon the tower cluster in the area. It goes without saying many of these women hide in places like Nevada and Arizona were their cell coverage is very sparse and there are no cell towers. No cell towers no tracking. But the device is talking directly to the satellites it is visible anywhere on earth, and that is extremely important.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

    This. So very this.

You want a GPS that is rated to provide an eight-digit grid coordinate, or a ten-digit grid coordinate.

Eight digits is ten-meter margin of error. Ten digit is one-meter margin of error.

Much as I hate the idea of LoJacking a kid.

I wish you the best of luck with this. Good luck.

  • Thanks everyone, I kind of needed that encouragement.

For the trackers and things, I've just begun researching them, but I've found one GPS tracking chip which is affordable and looks good. But I'm going to get a tracker watch/phone for kids that uses cell phone signals as well.
The tracking chip is just for tracking, with one of these watches thrown in I can track her around town, call her and receive calls from her as well as an SOS button that contacts the police, plus if one is lost or broken I have the other as backup. Frankly with where I live if she disappears there aren't many places they can go quickly as my ex has no survival skills to handle a Northern Canadian forest, and would most likely head for the nearest airport with a fake passport and ID and two tickets to China. A quick call to the police if I can't locate my daughter within ten minutes and she's in trouble.
It also helps that my daughter is a total Daddy's girl, who has said if she has to travel anywhere without me she'll scream the whole way. She has told this to my parents who she adores, and she has a voice that will shatter glass. My ex would have to drug her to get her anywhere in public outside of our home town without creating a huge scene.

    Again thanks everyone.

I was talking about the reasons why the marches were going on. My family is staying out of the states for the next 4-8 years.

Also Disneyland is the place where Walt's original studio was in Anaheim California. Disney world is something like 10 times the size and on florida.

  • I'm happy to hear that your fight is over and you get to keep your unique little girl, Domo. As others have said, I hope your ex leaves it at that and doesn't try anything, but that if she does that she is caught quickly before anything can happen. Just enjoy the time you have with your daughter now, from the things you have said about her on here she is special, with a vivid imagination and love of even some of the...how should I put this, more bizarre stuff [like Parasyte] even I can't handle. In time I'm sure she will write stories that are on par with yours.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

    Anaheim is only Disneyland
the studios were in LA --Hollywood --then finally Burbank
I know--I have worked in Hollywood for 30 years at the studios and at Disneyland many times over the years.

and yep Disney world is huge! 43 square miles! Been there twice!

but don't let all that BS scare anyone --there are three levels of government in the US and he is only in-charge of one--the other two balance it out and slow any changes.

  • Remember - one thing we're doing on these forums is to avoid political opinions because of how (especially these days) divisive and vitriolic the arguments can become. The POTUS doesn't have a secret police, there aren't any concentration camps to round up 'undesirables' - so calm down, visit places you like, and thumb your nose at America politics by not letting all the hot air and blather bother you.
