  • Just curious: are the (others besides Hank) fall 2007 Kimbas' stories not being written or just in the pipeline waiting release? I'm missing the characters whose stories were the foundation for the universe.

    Thanks!

  • Problem is that Hank is the only one with an active author, so at best the others just make cameo appearances, or appear without any earth shattering changes. Can you imagine if Maggie came back and discovered that Jobe has artificially inseminated Nikki, or some other major revelation? Probably wouldn't be amused.

  • Actually, to the best of my second-hand knowledge, Maggie is... around, although not active in the Forums or writing new Whateley stories. But the other canon writers can contact her for consultation. Consider that, among the "inactive" Kimbas, Fey was the one who received the most character development: she had Aunghandail killed off, then she went through a tough-love intervention, and then she got a World Tree seed. None of these is a small thing.

Ayla had a small bit of development too, mainly in the form of getting him a new girlfriend -- I'm pretty sure that Elrod mentioned having okayed it with Diane.

But Toni, despite having an active author, got pretty much no development because Bek is no longer interested in her. And neither Babs nor Starwolf seem to be around to authorize significant developments.

Others of the old-guard canon writers, even if not really active, appear to be reachable if there's need to discuss their characters. Motley. Renae. Bender... and Heather is back, too.

But yeah, other than Hank's POV and the off-chance of Bek getting hit by a Chaka-shaped inspiron, Team Kimba is pretty much relegated to supporting character status for the foreseeable future.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Thank you for clarifying. Makes sense but I'm still sad to have their narrative cut off. Have a good one!

  • I have a couple more development stories for Ayla - mostly from the POV of Addy, and no, I haven't had contact to okay them with Diane, but they're not huge character-shaking stories. Just me having fun and games with them ....

  • With Phoenix writing Hank, I think you're actually going to be getting more Team Kimba going forward than we have in a while. The universe is never going to go back to being "Team Kimba and their supporting cast" like it was the first few years, but with elrodw working with Ayla some, and Bek and Maggie at least providing some support even if they're not writing the characters, they're going to be back in the mix again more than they were the latter part of year 1.

But for now, they're not the viewpoint characters, other than Hank.

Best bet might be to ask in Twisting the Hellmouth, but privately so she doesn't feel pressured, re was telling me one time she was burnt out because at the time she was fielding a lot.

  • Doing a bit of research for this week's story bet. There are over 20 POV characters with active stories,
