The content "I Looked into the Abyss and it Winked" has been temporarily removed from the collection. The images and subject matter were either determined by their algorithms or, more likely, reported by a reader as being of inappropriate sexual nature and in violation of our Google Ads contract. The stories will be returned to availability once I figure out a means to do so without violating the ads agreement.

Google is providing a family - friendly target demographic for advertising. That's what they promise you for your marketing money on AdWords. So the flip side of it is that site owners benefitting from AdSense have to meet those demands.
That's an important distinction, actually... because it provides for a solution. Stories with mature content cannot be on Ad served pages of the site. There is no requirement though that the whole site has to be served though. So, unless someone offers an even better solution, what I will do is the following:
1: anything that Google flags, will be moved to a new category that will only be accessible to registered readers through the menu system (no quick links from the front page)
2: those stories will be replaced in the main collection (or library or wherever it was located) by a generic explanation page noting that the story is flagged as adult content and can be found in the mature collection.
3: the mature collection pages and stories in it won't have ads. Because that is such a small fraction of the stories, it shouldn't impact ad revenue much.

Is Abyss the only series so flagged?

Let's see, I get pantie ads (the women are in very revealing underwear) and have also gotten ads for semi-pornographic video games. I mean Elsword is not very 'family friendly'... Among others. So I stick by my first analysis. In fact frankly I emphasize it. I suggest that they are being hyper-sensitive to the 'anti child exploitation' laws that have been put forward, but I could be wrong. I'm not saying we shouldn't be sensitive to the exploitation of children but the laws on that are among others that have come to be a convenient excuse for censorship.

I would have thought that "Tenyo goes to Hell" would have been the troublemaker.

It's the one that is quoted in the violation notice I was sent. For:
I suspect its the images more so than the text. They have a tool that will scan the full site for additional problems, which I'm going to run here shortly to make sure we're clear. I suspect there are a handful of problem pieces... though maybe more so in the Library than the WU. We'll see.

As stated in our program policies, we may not show Google ads on pages with content that is sexually suggestive or intended to sexually arouse. This includes, but is not limited to:
pornographic images, videos, or games
sexually gratifying text, images, audio, or video

I'd say you're right. I also stick by my estimation. I get dating site ads, video game ads (as noted) audible book ads, and underwear ads. All featuring scantily clad women. If it is men's underwear then it is just a picture (drawing) of the underwear. Which sort of blows a hole in their argument.

I’m perfectly happy with Kristin’s solution, as long as it’s only certain stories getting flagged.
I do worry about someone coming up with a new way of grieving the site though by flagging us repeatedly to Google AdWords

Someone trying to grieve the site (or simply make it unprofitable) sounds far too plausible. The other day (I shan't say where...) I was on a rant. Afterward, I got to thinking and discovered much to my chagrin that I had been every bit as bad as the people I was ranting against. I didn't want to let them have their say and leave them be. I had to check myself, and I'll have to check myself again. Frankly we have far too much of the, 'You may not say anything I disapprove of on pain of a beating,' sort of thinking going on these days by too many people. I wish everyone would get one thing through their thick skulls (me too!) and that is that we as humans cannot create utopia on Earth. Indeed the harder we try to do so it seems to me (no matter the 'base belief') the further away we get from even being able to live in anything other than abject fear.

The first step to creating Utopia on earth is the understanding that in all probability, no two people on earth agree on what actually Utopia would look like.

Only option to solve that is to go to a donation system instead of ads. Or maybe switching to Project Wonderful ads instead of Google... which is less reliable, if potentially greater income. Fortunately, we're far cheaper to run than BCTS... more than running a WoW guildlaunch site and teamspeak for a raiding guild (which I have done via paypal donation systems in the past)... but not a 'lot' more.
