Question WA 2055: A new 'series'

The year is 2055. Humanity is dying out, being replaced by Mutantkind.
So, any thoughts?? (very anticlimactic after the previous paragraph, I know). I'd like to get the opinion of the remaining OC authors, and like to get the green light to continue writing the opening story I have in progress. Just BTW, I'm aware I'm new. I'm aware that I only have two stories on this site. Plus, this new continuity is a big shock. It upsets areas of the feel of Whateley, and it's a big departure from simply going from 2004 to 2016. However, there is a analogy for this. Back after the original Star Trek was cancelled (sorry for all the references to cancellation (i'm aware that that might subconsciously put some people off)), fans lobbied for a new series. Once they heard about what would become Star Trek: The Next Generation, they were angry pre-release that it wouldn't be about Kirk, Spock or any of the other crew (much like I'm incessantly angry post-release about the new series of star trek,

I don't know if this will answer your question or not. But somewhere buried deep in the depths of this forum lies a rough setting outline for Whateley Gen 3. Its in a post made by Kristen, and its an early grounded scifi setting. Some people/countries/companies have space ships, and there is a small asteroid mining. Also an alien race sends raiders every now and then for honor. I'll try and find the post and edit the link in.

Kristin Darken wrote: Gen 3 is currently penciled in as a move in the sci-fi direction. Earth will have moved into intrastellar space, heavily developing the asteroid belt and moons for industrial development, with numerous FTL exploratory projects in their early stages. All this poking around outside of our solar system will alert our neighbors in this arm of the galaxy of a new player and Earth will be invaded... mostly by an alien species known for their tribal/clan behavior and war/combat based honor system.
While fairly strong physically, the continued growth of the mutant population and the commercialization of power armor has resulted in making Earth a very popular place for young clan members to raid to test themselves. Truthfully, most of them get their asses handed to them... but it has yet to escalate to the scale that the leading clans and their famous champions have been drawn into the fight. Because our FTL is still mostly in the hands of private developers and inventors (many of whom are Gadgeteers), Earth governments don't have ships to take the fight out of the Sol system. Several nations, however, do have near Earth and central system sublight and skip-drive fleets with fairly strong armaments. Enough so that only about one in three raiding forces even get to the planet to land. Only a few of managed to cause any damage of note... our own supervillains tend to be worse.
At this point in technological development, mutant and paranormal powers are actually overshadowed by weapons and armor... except in the instance of 'enhanced' equipment. And that is where the Whateley Academy (and cutting edge of paranormal support) is focused. While the same effort is put into the development of the internal powers, some of the leading Gadgeteers and inventors work to develop tech that complements or improves upon their base abilities... boosting the power scale from the low levels that we've kept them in the WU to a scale that allows for the sort of world class heroic deeds that involve challenging alien power armor and warships. Some of that would take the form of power armor or exosuits... some would be integrated into fighter/intercepter craft. The 'largest' ships in this sort of fleet would be frigate or destroyer class ships that are manned by multiple mutants... a PK into the shielding, an ESPer into sensors and targeting, a Warper and/or Energizer at Weapons... and so on.
Of course, that's all just foundation gimmick and background scenery.
To be a viable 'canon' timeline it would also have to minimize timeline integration (meaning, that characters - even support characters) from prior timeline could only make appearances, even at the cameo level, with the agreement of the original team / author of that character. The reason for this being, of course, that even just the presence of said character in a future timeline means many things for each story put out about that character from now until that time. The simple fact of knowing that they survive removes the impact of tension and cliffhangers where they are in danger, more or less permanently.
Finally, nothing gets 'canon' status without being approved and going through feedback/continuity checking from the rest of the canon team. As is explained to people on a fairly regular basis when they express an interest in being canon... that it is far less about being a good author, though that helps. Being canon is far more about being able to work as part of the team, and we're sometimes prickly, sometimes demanding, and often hard to work with people... we're that way mostly because we love the universe and refuse to let standards for it drop, and it can be challenging to sustain the amount of material that is put out by the team for as long as it's been active. Do we love that you're enthusiastic and hellbent on taking a corner of the universe and putting your stamp on it and getting other people to join you in doing so and loving that part of it also? Yes... absolutely. Great energy.

And no, we're actually not currently considering a new 'series' or generation for canon. Mainly because we've barely enough authors to sustain the two timelines we have now with regular releases. A new timeline needs 6-10 reasonably producing authors (you can do it with fewer, but that requires both faster writing and more external support on feedback/editing process). With 6-10 authors, the feedback process can be sustained within the group. So... to start another new group, we would need 6-10 new (unique) authors who are all interested in the SAME setting/concept for plot development and those authors would all need to be able to work together as a team... not only within themselves, but also with regards to oversight from the core universe authors, gen 2 authors, and staff. Begin to see the complexity of what you're suggesting and why we're not making snap decisions about it?
