  • Shiiiiiiiinyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Moving ever onward to the mecha-apocalypse. X3

Still, awesome project! Too bad it's attached at the tailbone to a cable?

How many extensions would you need to get to work? ;3

  • I noticed a couple of important things. When it was moving, there was no pilot, despite the safety cables. You had better not be subject to motion sickness, there is a lot of motion in that cockpit.

  • One of the journalists took it for a test drive and actually broke it on camera while doing what he was told to do by the head designer.
It was quite funny, in the segment I believe they said it can be remotely operated but not wirelessly or man driven.
The guy designing it dreams of a real Gundam, I bet.

  • I kickstarted that!

They're planning on making a league cause a bunch of companies like that Korean one challenged them after Eagle Prime won the Robo duel.

  • The trouble with using one to get to work is you'll need to live within the range of the extension cord...

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

Just hook the extension cord up to your helicopter's electrical system. You might need a more powerful turbine to make up for the additional load from generating the needed electricity, but Rule of Cool, rite?

Do you think I could hook up 2.5 miles of extension cords, maybe three?

Perhaps they could follow trolley lines.

We powered one workshop using daisy-chained plug-boards.

It worked, sort of. It did mean that you couldn't use that arc-welder and the laser-cutter at the same time, as the trip-switches would kick.

It was NOT recommended-by-OSHA-safe, but it functioned well enough to boot-strap us to the next level of functionality.

I'd also worry about the voltage drop-off that you would get from a 2 1/2 mile long extension lead. Using standard extension leads, you'd be limited to around 1/2-3/4's of a mile.

You could use three-phase power, but then you'd have to use heavier extension leads.

I'll ask a mate who's a qualified sparky. He liked the concepts of the machines, and he tried to work out some accurate figures.

As for the mech designs, in theory, you could run them from battery-packs, with a quick-change system and battery-packs stored on a logistics vehicle, however they're going to be used for fighting.

The fuel-storage/energy-storage systems are always going to be a prime target in a scrap.

Read about some of the earliest stories about the development of tanks in the 1916-1945 war. Some horrible stories about the tank operators being cooked when the fuel went up.

And Li-Po batteries are even more reactive when they're punctured.

It's a chewy design-problem-space. Kind of why Loophole's power-system got a lot of attention from the Worn-Wrench in the back-end of 2007-2008 academic year.

That would require trolleys. The local farmers just don't need them.

    Just had a bright idea.

If they're designed to be used, purely in an arena-space, then this method would work, along with a more-limited form of battery-packs.

This would also give a good money-earner/publicity/proof-of-concept/testing-ground for the mecha designs.

    I'd Kickstart this. :D
