  • From June 17th to June 21st, the first episode of my ongoing serialized tabletop gaming fantasy series is available for free!

    "Princesses Don't Do Summer School"

    With two little ones in the picture now, I need all the moral support I can get, so make me feel better by grabbing a free copy and leaving a few words on Amazon or Goodreads, okay?

    And if you feel like adding a little monetary support in there, the next five episodes should all be available, including (soon) the sixth episode, "Banquets and Other Social Disasters."

  • Not nearly as well as the last time I tried this.

    A grand total of 20 free downloads in four days (not counting Tuesday, because that one's a fat goose egg). Almost zero Kindle Unlimited activity. One actual monetary purchase. That's... about 60% down from the previous highwater mark (which was not too impressive to begin with) for downloads and about 90% down on KU activity.

    It's sad when I have trouble even GIVING stuff away. >_<;

  • Going by the users/guests numbers, the site's traffic has been down quite a bit compared to a year or so ago. Fewer eyes, less interest in related projects?

  • We're also not releasing three pieces of content per week now, which we did for almost half of last year. Even just having a Monday and a Friday release results in more than a 100% gain to traffic as it results in twice as many visits just to get content and more visits to the forum results in more conversations which results in more visits. Having fewer content releases means most people only visit for content release and have no reason until the next content release to visit the forums... so a LOT fewer forums conversations happen, which reduces visits even further.

    We're currently experiencing overall numbers roughly the same as about six months prior to when we started releasing the Gen 2 stories.The big question is what we do about it... do we find some way to revive the existing authors? Lots of blocked and slow progress work that needs a spark of new life to get it running again? Do we open up another timeline / story path like the Gen 2 timeline so that we can introduce more authors without creating conflict in the existing groups? Do we need to advertise?

    Sorry to hear that... hopefully a few of them will leave you some nice reviews.

    On the one hand, increased traffic and interest would be great. On the other hand, some of that attention could be more demanding and vindictive than we've seen in some time.

    One can hope, but... not holding my breath.

    I've been told (somewhat patronizingly) that the key to more sales is more reviews, which doesn't help much when I currently have less than a 1% reader review rate. And there's a part of me that absolutely hates the idea of review-begging, as something inherently dishonest.

    I mean, yeah, all but one of the reviews I do have were from people I know personally, but I didn't ASK them to do it... and still feel bad about it.

    As it is, I can't place any blame on this site's activity. The main reason I posted here was to cover all the bases. Unfortunately, most other forums I'm on are either equally low-key or have TOS that frown on over-promotion, so I was leaning more heavily on Twitter for this one. The little blue birds let me down.

  • Thanks for reminding me that I needed to update the reader program on my laptop. And the story.

    Several authors have mentioned that they're dependent on the Wiki to keep track of what's going on, and that's the reason for at least some of the blockages.

    Wiki updating needs help. At the present time, one person (Xalt) is doing most of the updating. Several others are doing occasional updates (Malady, Sir Lee, Null0, someone who's not logged in). At the present rate, the Wiki will be up to date sometime in 2021, which is not helping the authors.
