Question LightofFury's recent story and my big mistake

When Light asked about writing a Danny story, it was assumed to be a fan-fic, or as a 'gift' to me (which she's done in the past). When I read it, I was highly impressed and decided to see if I could sponsor it to be canon. Naturally, I passed on the good news. There was then discussion about writing canon, and I explained the process. Now I understand that Light was a little confused and miffed; she'd written over a dozen fan-fic pieces already, but she went along and wrote what we're calling Gen 0 - a background piece not relating to Gen 1 school year or students or even necessarily the Academy itself.

During the time she was writing it, there was a huge misunderstanding between Light and me. We go back a number of years; I made her a canon author in one of my universes because I liked her writing. She's bounced stories my way that she never published anywhere else. I guess you could say there's some degree of friendship there.

Or rather, there was. When she came back after Christmas, I understood that it was more on a 'working' level than a friendship / supportive level. It was a mistake on my part, and as she wrote and then waited for publication, Light was expecting me to offer support and encouragement through the process which was much slower than she was used to. That was counter to my understanding of the current state of exchanges. Naturally, this resulted in Light feeling slighted and betrayed because I wasn't offering said support and encouragement.

Light was hurt emotionally because of my interpretation of our interactions, and possibly quite badly. She told me off (several times) and told me she was no longer interested in the canon app process. She felt I lied to her (???) and that I didn't offer support (true, due to the crucial misunderstanding on my part). So she said she's not going to write any more Whateley, and if fans want to know why, it's MY FAULT. I accept that because I misunderstood at the outset and didn't seek clarification. She's not listening to apologies because she's hurt and thinks I'm an evil sadistic person; maybe if she sees my admission of my mistakes in writing before the entire community, she'll realize that I'm not evil but truly regret my misinterpretation and feel bad about the consequences hurting her.

For those of you who are Light's fans, I also apologize to you, because my errors will cost you future LightofFury stories set in the Whateley universe, and for that, we're all the poorer.

Regarding LightofFury getting your messages. ... Do you know anything who'd serve as an intermediary so she won't immediately brush you off?

... Do you know if she even follows The Quad?

It's a shame to hear she's gotten to this point with her feelings toward you and the Whateley universe... I'm sure we could all say things like "But, what if you..." or "I'm sure she didn't understand _____" but I'm sure that's not what's needed here... it's done been done.

I've truly enjoyed your stories over the years... I hope this misunderstanding doesn't ruin things for you in the future between ElrodW and you and your views toward the Whateley Universe stories... you've got a great talent and I hope to read more by you in the future...

Sorry, kinda in shock over that. You are the nicest person I know and to hear that hurts on so many levels.

Guys, I appreciate all that's being said, but the reason for this subject is simple. I fucked up, and I'm manning up to admit it. I knew there are fans of Light, and I have to accept responsibility for my actions that may have driven her permanently away from Whateley. I'd rather this not be a 'sympathy for EW' or such. It's simply an admission that I messed up. With that, I'm going to lock the thread.
