Greetings, Mikisha, and welcome back to the community. If it's been a couple years since you were last around, do take the time to reacquaint yourself with everything that's been going on. Quite a bit has been happening over the last couple of years.

Welcome back, Mikisha! I'd assumed that you'd come to your senses and gotten yourself exorcised, like so many else. Welcome back to the Hellpit Fun! As a matter of fact, I do remember your fanfic 'Wrath of the Sunbeam', and was hoping that you'd finish it.
But, on to really important stuff... how would Mikki feel about finding out that not only can't she use 'Imp', but it's taken by a TEACHER?

Such a warm welcome! Thank you all, it's good to be back.
I have a new story partly-done, but my beta-reader doesn't yet know what it's actually about, so I can't post any spoilers here.

Hi!
... How can your beta not know what your story's about, when they're reading it?

Quite easily, depending on how little of the story is done, and what sort of twist you have.
It's much harder for your beta reader not to know what the story SEEMS to be about, assuming there's a twist, though.

Well, we are not asking for teasers that the beta-reader hasn't seen yet... teasers that are already on the beta queue might be fair game.
Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

"How can your beta not know what your story's about, when they're reading it?"
Lots of sneakiness and misdirection.
I'm figuring my Beta reader's not going to come here and read this post, so I guess I can tell you - the story he's reading is Sunbeam's origin story. I haven't touched that story in a long time, or done any other Whateley stuff, so it's off his radar.
Plus, I'm waiting for the perfect moment for somebody in the story to mention the word "Sunbeam", and I haven't mentioned the character's surname yet, either of which could trigger an 'A-ha!' moment. The clues are there, if you're looking for them, but I know he's keeping his mind open instead of trying to guess. He makes a wonderful blank canvas.

Welcome (back) to the zanyness that is the Whateley forums Mikisha. Given that you have shared your creative works with the community in the past, it is highly recommended that you look into joining the crew of WhatIF (Whateley Independent Fiction) writers. Instructions on doing so can be found
here
. Don't worry, it's quite painless.
Once you've been given the magic permissions, please consider fishing out your copy of 'Wrath of the Sunbeam' and taking it through the WhatIF process. If the story is 'finished' and you are comfortable with the editing, you could potentially send it straight into the 'Whateley Independent Fiction' category. Otherwise, you'd probably want to submit it as a 'WhatIF Requesting Feedback'. This would give you a chance to get feedback before releasing it to the community as a whole.

Hi there, I clicked the link, but got a red-text:
Error
You are not authorised to view this resource.
I was planning to post my new story in chunks on the forum - they changed the names of everything after the crash, though, which confused me a lot (I'm not good with changes). Is the IF something different to the main forum?

WhatIF (Whateley Independent Fiction) is sort of a 'next level' version of forum writing/workshopping. IF is for those authors who feel what they have to offer is just as complete and just as finished/polished as canon stories, and puts those stories into the site content system to be listed/viewed in the same fashion as canon stories are. We chose to give it a new name because we feel that some of the stories that are created by the community are more than 'just' fan fiction in the common perspective of fan fiction (we've always claimed that we judge stories on their own merit not on whether they are created by a fan or by a canon author.. but that's much easier to do when we don't use language to name it that is sometimes considered derogative by communities).
To write/post in the forums? You need do nothing more than you would for any other forums activity. Find the Fabrication Lab, post a story, find the associated discussion section and post a discussion thread. If you want to move up to posting Independent Fiction (which puts your stories in the queue in the left sidebar - or accessible in the Story menu under WhatIF), you'll need to request access by PM'ing me. Once I've done that, you'll have access to some additional site tools and tutorials/guide material on how to submit, get feedback/reviews, and publish. There are some more details on the different types of publishing and such in the Writing/Workshop section of the forums.
And welcome back

Yeah welcome back, and please repost all your old fiction from the old forums, we lost all that when the forums crashed and we needed to create a new site.
Getting all the Whateley fiction back on this site would be wonderful.
