Plus, being a canon author means spoilers. That's one of the main reasons I didn't apply to join the Gen 2 team back when it was being formed. I thought about it and decided that I'd enjoy reading canon Gen 2 stories more than I'd enjoy writing them, so it wouldn't be a worthwhile trade. Writing WhatIFs gives me more freedom, is less burdensome, and doesn't involve spoilers or limitations on my ability to engage on the forum.Kristin Darken wrote: I'll tell you the same thing I tell every author... picking up the pen and writing about Whateley should never be about being canon. Being canon is less about writing and more about how you work with other authors. If you want to write good stories, just write good stories. Don't worry about canon status. Canon status may or may not happen even if you're the best writer on the site... and being canon doesn't automatically make you a better writer... it just makes you take more time solving continuity issues and putting up with feedback from other canon authors.

I never planned to apply for canon authorship. Just made Fanfics and was content to just screw around in my own little sandbox.

That's the secret to success: Do your own thing, until you find people who want you to do your own thing with them.
