  • about one year ago, I was browsing the depths of Tvtropes, and found Whateley. After reading through the stories, I decided that I would make an account on the day that I had caught up with the original timeline. since then, I found "2nd gen", and decided that I would post my first topic here on the day that I caught up with 2nd gen. today, 9/25/17 is that day, just in time for my birthday later this week. I love whateley, and have several theories on some of the older characters, and have begun thinking about a pair of characters of my own. I don't know if I can make it into Canon, and being a first-time writer, as well as relatively new to Whateley, I doubt I would get to be a canon author. I look forward to reading more canon, getting to know the various authors and readers of this community, and starting on the non-canon tales. Sincerely, Funkleburg

  • I'll tell you the same thing I tell every author... picking up the pen and writing about Whateley should never be about being canon. Being canon is less about writing and more about how you work with other authors. If you want to write good stories, just write good stories. Don't worry about canon status. Canon status may or may not happen even if you're the best writer on the site... and being canon doesn't automatically make you a better writer... it just makes you take more time solving continuity issues and putting up with feedback from other canon authors. ;)

Whether you write or not, welcome to the forums. We're always happy to have lurkers de-lurk and newcomers join us. :)

  • Welcome, come join us in the tunnels, you can express your muse, and play around with your characters and have them interact with the canon characters, without the stress of being canon... I have a character that scares the hell out of Wondercute... and really, isn't that needed?

  • And her team wins against Team Kimba... And even when they're downplaying their ability Kimba is a power to be contended with.

    And that's a bad thing?

Plus, being a canon author means spoilers. That's one of the main reasons I didn't apply to join the Gen 2 team back when it was being formed. I thought about it and decided that I'd enjoy reading canon Gen 2 stories more than I'd enjoy writing them, so it wouldn't be a worthwhile trade. Writing WhatIFs gives me more freedom, is less burdensome, and doesn't involve spoilers or limitations on my ability to engage on the forum.

  • Here's a secret:

I never planned to apply for canon authorship. Just made Fanfics and was content to just screw around in my own little sandbox.

That's the secret to success: Do your own thing, until you find people who want you to do your own thing with them.
