A Little R&R Part 1 comments
Dang, magic sounding like stereo instructions due to growing up with devisor tech, mindset definitely shaped by environment. A cookbook with personal recipes from Mrs. Lawrence, Roulette is going to be popular with those. Hot girl next door with purple hair and eyes, poor girl is going to attract attention even at Whateley. Ouch, poor tough girl, scar across her face is one thing, being bald is another. Able to transform her skin so it appears to be steel, interesting, always like to see hidden powers that can be brought out at will.
PDP today, even without being a strong one that is rough. Yay! Ribbon shows up, nice outfit. Roulette noting her expression is unusual being out of place on someone so young, insightful. Ah, Alyss for her name, forget if we've read this before or not. A couple years younger, boy is that an understatement. Revealing the truth of her powers to Ribbon like that, dang, Roulette is a lot more trusting than expected.
Took a Shortcut, nice pun, referring to her son. Mrs. Shugendo shows up, poor security guy can't even lift Ribbon's steamer trunk, full of car parts, dang. Diedricks, having to deal with her mom who has it, they both know how bad that mental disorder can be. Plasma cannon to deal with a mouse, that is severe. Ouch, bite by a yappy little dog and wrecked the neighbor's fence, doghouse, and yard, Rachael has it bad.
Alyss Morgan aka Ribbon, finding out about Poe's secret and wondering how they keep it, yeah, that one puzzles a lot of people. Angel RA for their wing, nice. Cinderella aka Cindy for short, wonder what her powers are beside exemplar based on her looks. Age regression and a changeling, but reveals she would have died if she hadn't manifested, shocking to hear for some of the others.
Revealing her ribbon manifestation, petite black girl Pamela Green aka Breakdown says that doesn't seem too impressive, oh boy. Manifest fabric and does a full dress, which Cindy is impressed by. Yikes, mention of Wondercute going to love her by Angel. Now Amy Maguire aka Roulette and of course a blonde girl with short hair thinks she is a probability warper. Jinx, who gives people bad luck. And Angel thinks she has two manglers in her wing.
Revealing her powers, shifter who goes between devisor, PDP, energizer, exemplar, or wizard, but has no control over which she has each day. Ah, girl from the train station is Iron Rose, Shifter 4, normal form as strong as exemplar 3, but can turn her body into a form of organic metal at will. Jinx had an 'accident' in her old middle school and forced to leave in a hurry, ouch. Peacock, thought the girl with blue and green hair was her, and Downpour, sad looking Asian girl with literal rain clouds starting to form over her head, dang.
Amy and Alyss rooming together, nice, while Cindy and Jinx are roomies. Tool chest, Alyss is definitely prepared. Amy has a smaller one herself, wonder how many things she will need for those times she has different powers. Alyss needing little clothes, just manifest whatever she needs each day, one of the handier powers. No laundry either, dang, making me jealous of her power now. Listed as 15 with driver's permit, nice, guess she will need a custom car. Going to be fun to see her driving and others' reactions when it happens.
Dream come true and awkward at the same time for Roulette in the showers, hehehe. Iron Rose checking everyone out, even Amy, she is far from shy that one.
Oh, I like her. Devisor today, guess she can get some work in. Completely dry hair in less than a minute, but needs regular maintenance, dang, wish it was a gadget, would make a mint with that."Keep your eyes to yourself," the blonde girl called Cinderella told her. "Or at least buy me dinner and flowers first."
Dang, manifesting her clothes like that is almost like a transformation sequence out of an anime. And the ebidium bracelets, nice, wonder who is going to try and take those first like an idiot. Nice upgrades to the floating sphere since we last saw it. Oh boy, girls chasing around Danny in his cougar form, bound to happen from time to time. Yikes, shrink ray accident and neighbor's cat, that would give you a fear of big cats easy.
A boy that reminds Amy of Draco Malfoy, hope the impression is just appearance and not more. Gravmax and Iron, Gravmax hitting on Amy and tries to brush him off, but he uses his power to increase gravity to stop her, he is asking for it. Trying to force her to stay and talk with him, ticking off Alyss. Bluffs the idiots with her sphere, saying it is recording everything which she can turn over to security or use for a sexual harassment suit. Gravmax storming off like that, like he was the one wronged, great, an ego-maniac who thinks he is God's gift to women and now probably will want revenge on Amy.
Poor Ribbon, treated like she was younger than the freshmen, worrying about where she fits in and wanting a beer. Oh crap, Breakdown took apart Amy's golden sphere without her permission just to see how it works. Ah, Breakdown specializes in disassembly and reverse engineering. Martina Hughes, another changeling, brings up that Alyss is reading a study of Diedricks. Even figures out the person connected to Alyss is Lady Havoc. Dang, that is a lot of books, wish I could read as fast as Alyss can.
Martina having a villain for a mom, when will people realize kids have no control over who their parents are or what their parents do. At least Alyss and probably some others won't care. Uh oh, Jade shows up with Bunny tagging along and wants to drag Alyss into Wondercute. But Angel is having none of that with one of her charges, leading to an argument with Jade. At least Mrs. Horton shows up, Alyss has some appointments to go to thankfully.
Playing along with expectations of others, good way to shock others later on and fun too. Mrs. Ryan as her faculty advisor, explaining she wishes to help people with Diedricks and such to Mrs. Ryan. Ah, having to take prerequisites and the classes she needs not available until junior year, at least she can start working now. All those classes, plus Mrs. Ryan's Costume Shop class, great idea to expand the kind of clothes she can manifest.
Ah, actually requested to be Ribbon's faculty advisor, nice. Working with Cecilia Rogers as well, dang, talk about master teachers."Why do people always bring up spandex?" Mrs. Ryan mused with a shake of her head. "Any effective costume avoids spandex, in favor of more practical materials..."
Oh great, werewolf type growling at her, yet she shocks him by remaining completely calm when he gets in her face. Aegis shows up and tries to defend the 'little girl' from the monster, only to get knocked down despite a golden aura surrounding him. Beating on Aegis, only for Alyss to tell him it's over. Insults fly and werewolf gets ticked at Ribbon, only to say she warned him.
Back to Roulette, wondering when she will be a devisor again and can fix her devise. She isn't even angry at Breakdown, knowing how hard the devisor itch to use their power is. Getting a hamper for Alyss to keep her dirty clothes in instead of on the floor, Amy grew up having to be the responsible one. Riptide telling Jade great job, but Jade doesn't know for what.
Amy invites others to go with her to Crystal Hall for lunch, Jon Homer aka Voodude, a magic user of some sort, and Hardwyrd a freshmen devisor guy, both go with her. Ah, so that is what is going on, everyone assuming Jade is the one who dealt with Bloodwolf when she hasn't seen him since last spring. And Amy is a wizard today, finding out Voodude is bi as he flirts with her.
Ouch, poor Hardwyrd, beat up back home when some guys found out he was gay. Safety procedures and what not to do, definitely important if you wish to survive with those powers. And some girls talking, thinking Wondercute are the ones who tied Bloodwolf up in pink ribbons and bows and hung him from a lamppost.
Alyss having to go to power testing, wonder what they will discover about her manifested cloth. Guessing Alyss is going to test out of her Algebra, English, and US History classes. Amy has Power Lab, Power Theory, a couple classes with magic and devisor stuff, and BMA, plus possibly an extra power lab on Saturdays, ouch and double ouch. Hardwyrd sounds more sensible than most other devisors and even gadgeteers when it comes to weapons, nice change of pace.
Amy took a freeze ray to school at 7, all the kids ice skating in the hallway until the teachers stopped it, two weeks as the most popular kid in school. Wish I could have gone to that school at that time, ice skating in the halls. Ouch, Alyss remembers when Rachael brought a small robot to school and it caught fire.
Flash of light from the Quad, junior or senior says it is freshmen showing off their powers. Half a dozen different groups. A kid with a small robot who seemed to be dancing with it, bricks arm wrestling, magic users demonstrating spells. Girl with a large weapon like a high tech rifle, plasma blaster which Amy recognizes easily as her mom makes one every couple months. Oh crap! Amy going into burnout mode, shifts into energizer mode and then blacks out. And we are left on that cliffhanger, can't wait for the next part to find out what happens.
Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

And she got to tie up Bloodwolf on her first day. He must be well on the way to developing a phobia of little girls. Now Jade is going to want her on Wondercute even more.

I don't recognize roulette from any other story, can someone point me to it? Thanks.
I'm not sure Ribbon will test out of academic subjects. She may for some, but she never graduated high school as Big Al, and he was definitely NOT of a academic nature. I did kind go expect her to try and take auto shop; and she should probably try to get mechanic as her student job, similar to Harry Wolf. While ribbon isn't a gagetteer, she was over three decades of experience as an auto mechanic.
Cann't wait to see more. Thanks Morpheus.

Huh. I went back to check the dates in Round and Round, and apparently Sphere is a time-traveler. Round and Round takes place from Sept 14-18th, 2007, and now it's August.
Wait… Witchling? There weren't any mages in Round and Round...
Whoops. Apparently I can't read tags. I'm not going to bother figuring out when Roulette's story was, because I'm sure it took place earlier in the summer.
I suspect that Roulette and Sphere are going to be cooking buddies together. Ayla is going to be so pleased.
Hm… I wonder who holds the record at Whateley for “Most Power Testing”
Does Whateley do superlatives? You know: Most Likely to Succeed, Most Attractive Eyes, Most Likely to Become a Supervillain…
Amy. Her name is Amy. (I'd forgotten)
A couple. Heh.
Codename puns!
Angel! We haven't seen nearly enough of her recently.
Jinx, if Roulette was a probability warper, they would not be putting you in the same wing.
Huh. I had Iron Rose pegged as a manifester. She can hang out with Eldritch, and they'll be weird metal girls together!
I really hope that power nullifiers don't make her manifested clothing vanish, or dollars to donuts she'll be meeting one in a week. And then kicking him in the nuts repeatedly.
You live on a campus full of devisors and gadgeteers, including a car club. Modifying a car so that you can reach the pedals will be easy.
Huh. Can Alyss make towels? They seem like they'd be tricker than your average cloth.
What happens when someone tries to steal the ball?
That's a new reaction towards Danny.
Aww… I was hoping for a bully smackdown from Ribbon. I guess that will come later. Maybe they can avoid the first day security trip?
Right, Martina is Knockoff. Figures that she would twig on the supervillain mentioned in Ribbon's backstory.
Wait, I want to know what her job's going to be!
Bloodwolf?
Oh, the bully busters are going to love Ribbon so much.
No, she didn't. She implied that she was about your age. Admittedly, “a couple” almost never means 40, but still.
Okay, Voodude is a great codename. I hope that he uses real Voodoo, not the Hollywood junk.
Ah, yes. Supers and vegans. The other thing about freshies is that they haven't learned to tune out the general weirdness yet, so you get bigger crowds for this sort of thing.
Uh-oh. Methinks that Amy's power testing schedule just got bumped up to the front of the queue.

Regarding the bit about reaching the pedals, it reminds me of some stories my dad has about driving a dump truck at the age of ten, just barely able to see the road over the dashboard as he stretched to reach the pedals. You can get away with all sorts of fun and/or terrifying things when you live far enough out in the country.

Knockoff is a sort of a Bad Seed, her mom bounces back and forth between Blackhat and Whitehat work.
Ribbon is, depending upon her official parentage, the daughter or niece of a Supervillain.
Sphere will be(?) possibly the younger "sister" of a Supervillain, or at least the ward of her.
Hmmm, Amy going into burnout, with Alyss, Hardwyrd and a bunch of Freshman around. Probably some Security around too. I wonder if anyone nearby will recognize what is happening and know what to do. (It is possible that Alyss has read about it.)

Second: Nice touch, with both pairs of initials.
Finally: a little confusion. Near the end, when Roulette is in the Common Room and gets Voodude and Hardwyrd to head out to lunch with her, it says:
Just as the four of us were leaving, Toni, the hyperactive sophomore girl came running into the dayroom, slipping past us as though we were no problem, even though we were blocking almost the entire doorway. “I heard about Bloodwolf,” she told Jade with a broad grin. “Good one…
Who is the fourth?

But consider this:mhalpern wrote: I love that everyone immediately thinks that Bloodwolf was Jade's doing, considering reputation, this COULD last until Alyss has her first BMA class, Angel's efforts to keep her from Wondercute will be futile then, she will fill out the team quite well as a brick
You're a bully, or UV at Whateley. You could admit that you were ambushed by the single most insane member of the most fearsome training team, known for defeating their opponents so consistently (excepting two incidents, one recent and not public), or you can admit that you were singlehandedly defeated by a girl who looks two years younger than that, and one year younger than any given member of the Three Little Witches.
Alyss likely never has to reveal her manifestation powers in BMA. She's an exemplar SIX. She can just grab their fists and squeeze a bit, until they admit defeat, or simply toss them out of the circle. No reason to use ribbons. Her actual life-or-death combat experience is pretty good with regards to that particular skill.
She can save the ribbon use for Exemplar Grace.

Couple problems with that plan, 1st being she wants to minimize injuries, but 2nd and more the important problem, Do you REALLY think Ito and Tolman would let her get away with just her exemplar strength? Besides you know how she is going to get a gi, don't you? Also "Ribbon" isn't a codename someone would take if they were just an exemplar.Katssun wrote:

True, however even if she doesn't flat out say she can control the ribbons and tries to hide it, some observant fellow is going to piece together that she can when her ribbons move in ways that shouldn't be possible, besides Alyss practically EMBRACES the creepy factor she naturally possesses, or at least she doesn't care to tone it down at all, at Whateley the little girl with a skull hairclip is more intimidating and believable than "a group of large men tying people up in pink ribbons"Katssun wrote: There is a significant difference between, "I can make ribbons and clothes! tee hee~" (used at the MCO) and, "I can control the ribbons I generate in a prehensile manner. And, of course, the fact that her ribbons dissolve in a day or so, like Spider-Man's webs, is sort of her "trademark." Someone will eventually figure out that those ribbons keep disappearing.
BUT -- and here's a subtle difference -- using her ribbons to tie up foes, or even to twirl her ultra-heavy bracelets, does *not* give away that she can animate them. And she may choose to focus on conventional martial arts technique in the BMA class, instead of relying on her power. So, it may take a while before it gets around that she can use ribbons in more than a passive way.

Yes and no, the keen eyed exemplar will notice, without the weights, she can throw her ribbons with impossible accuracy, it's subtle but someone like Phase will notice and catch on.Sir Lee wrote: I don't think she cares that much about keeping her ribbons "secret" -- she may be amused at everybody assuming that Wondercute did it, and she may amuse herself a bit feeding the rumors, but she sure wasn't worrying about it when she gift-wrapped Bloodwolf in pink ribbons.

I really enjoyed this story, though I had to go back and re-read Steel Ribbon, and ended up getting very little sleep last night.
I'm really hoping the "Baby Havok" tag follows her to school. It's too good to drop. At least one of the people in the bar where it got coined has to be a former student, maybe has a kid going there now.
Maybe one of the more intelligent Bad Seeds could let her know the group is there if she feels the need for a support group of peers.
Don't get me wrong. I like Roulette, but Alyss is just so cool a character. I really want to see much more of her interacting with others.

1st she wants to learn how to actually fight in an efficient trained manner.

In my opinion, Envy's mom is the best in her own weird way (By the way, how high is Strigga ranked up ? She must be at least a Grade A supervillain). And knockoff's mother isn't that far behind.
Roulette and Ribbon's origin stories were the two first canon stories that I have read (without really knowing it). Thank you Morpheus for this amazing sequel.

Between getting back at Starbrite, costuming classes, and playing with the Thornie pre-teens, people are going to figure out that Ribbon is skilled at making clothes out of nothing, but the true horror follows from the fact that she can make small ribbons spell out her name. Sooner or later, word is going to get to Venus Inc., especially if Lanie realized what Alyss did in the garage with her clothes. Or worse....Wondercute.
Ribbon ought to start having someone draft a standard contract. Something like, "Pre-teens and TLW, complimentary upon request. Wondercute, flat rate or subscription. Venus Inc., portion of the royalties."
I'm glad that Roulette is making the best of her situation, and making friends with the Thornies and having them spend time with the Poesies. Social isolation is the rough part of being in the two "special" cottages.
I was also pleasantly surprised that Alyss' "mature weirdness" is allowing her to connect with some of the more

A Little R&R Part 2 comments
Having to distract herself while in Doyle due to all the time she spent in hospitals before she changed, painful. Alyss describing a hospital stay, I would want out of there as fast as possible. Not even her 6th burnout!?! Explaining they believe she has a damaged BIT and keeps causing her to go into burnouts, at least most aren't this bad, poor kid. And ouch, figuring out why Amy chose her codename Roulette. Living with Damocles' sword over her head like that.
And Alyss reveals at least in part how she had terminal cancer before manifesting, at least that is what she let's Amy believe. Talk about complicated past. Teasing Alyss about the motivation speech, these two are perfect together. And crud, reassigned to Hawthorne for the time being for Amy, that sucks even if it is for her own good.
All those tales about Hawthorne, having to stay there until her burnout problems are fixed, without the support structure of Poe Amy is going to have it rough. Mrs.Cantrell still has that sense of humor I see. Couple little girls Alyss' apparent age, Miranda, Ember, Revekah, and Morgan, a boy, is off somewhere else. Sapphire, very exotic appearance with that hair, eyes and exemplar looks. And Caitlin is a resident advisor, nice.
At least she has that kitchen she can use, that perked Amy up. Plus I bet everyone there will love her food. Dust, a kid who looks like Pigpen from Peanuts brought to life. And Jimmy T in the form of Charlie Brown beside him, priceless. Thinking someone is making her see them like that, yeah, I would think that at first if I was new to Whateley. Told about Paige, plus the nameless abominations down there, hope Amy never meets them. Teasing about Foob by Caitlin, she has a wicked sense of humor. Introduction to Fubar and more teasing towards him by Caitlin.
Caitlin leaned over and added, "They couldn't a goldfish bowl big enough for him."
Ah, Ribbon seeing all these exemplar girls and thinking how they are jailbait, nice to see a different perspective. And now Alyss turn to find out about Fubar, and poor Amy going through power testing once again due to the burnout. Psychic powers today and ouch, having to go in to test each set of powers, Amy has it worse than any other student there. Biometric monitor and even planning a portable one, more annoyance for Amy.
And Sapphire drools in her sleep, neurotoxic venom that causes numbness and paralysis, sometimes releasing it as a mist, yikes. Oh great, idiot 15 year old named Starbright who seems to think Whateley is only for teens and harassing Ribbon. About to tie up Starbright, only for Iron Rose to show up, Starbright keeps digging that hole deeper. And Starbright is intimidated into leaving by Iron Rose turning into metal. I see Starbright being trouble in the future, including to other junior high kids.
Ouch, picked on and insulted like that, then manifest and they sic the MCO on her, no wonder Iron Rose has a bit of an attitude. Nice to see the Poesies take care of each other in action more. A job in the garage and interested in Gearheads, Ribbon is going to stand out even more. Blue overalls and hair tied back in a ponytail, cute look. Pranking her as she tries to work on the car, guess it couldn't go easy.
Moving the engine block like that, funny to see the reactions of the pranksters that such a little girl can lift it like it is nothing. Lanie part of the audience, and Alyss has a job she will love to do. And Lanie talks to her about the Gearheads, she is going to be a popular little girl.

Whole day testing and didn't learn anything she didn't already know, ouch. PDP 2. Oh boy, Doctor Quintain one of the testers, he will chew your ear off if you let him. And reminding poor Amy of 'Dr. Smith' with how he is talking how her power modes, yikes. Okay, having to sleep in the labs while they try to monitor her power shifting, nightmare. Hiring her to work in the labs so she would be on hand and available on a regular basis. Plus getting paid for her time spent in the labs, good all around.
At least she can have dinner with Alyss, Breakdown and Voodude. And Knockoff is Alyss' new roommate, had to because of Christina, her old roommate having a problem with her and her mom. Breakdown checking out Sapphire but doesn't realize she is being checked out, hehe. Sapphire says the cloak is personal, plus mention of a mess in Hawthorne. *eyes bug out* Okay, that is just wrong, snot fight between Fubar and Achoo and some boys got stuck between it.
A manifestor that makes a variable type of green slime, yet can't control it coming out when he sneezes. And has hayfever, no wonder Achoo is in Hawthorne. Plus he is a perv, at least he learned not to mess with Sapphire. Poor Amy, already feeling some distance from the Poesies. Ouch, wonder why Sapphire freaked out about Diamondback like that myself.
Slipping out of her room without waking up Martina, that is a skill. Oh, having those feelings about showering with other girls, hope she outgrows it.
Okay, that is an expression I've never heard before. Oh boy, surrounded by Ember, Miranda, Morgan, and Revekah, thinking she is a girl their age, awkward. And her thoughts about her granddaughter Kimberly manifesting, sure if she did she would get along with Jade. After all, if wishes were horses, everyone would be wearing hip waders.
At least she has some new people to hang out with, even if they know her real age. And Starbright shows up again, being a royal B. Bwahahaha! Manifesting that dress right onto Starbright, she deserved it. Glowing so no one can look at her as she runs off, can't take teasing but dishes it out. They like the dresses, though wonder what is up with Morgan.
*eyes bug out* Dang, Downpour trying to commit suicide, that is scary to see. Oh crap, severe depression and her medication doesn't work on her anymore. My mom has that, without her meds I don't know what would happen. Mrs. Horton working healing magic as Angel shoos the rest of them out, everyone concerned about poor Downpour. And Alyss feeling helpless, as her powers can't fix even the most important things.
Wanting to take it out on whoever was responsible but knowing it isn't that simple. Finding Hippolyta behind Poe cottage smoking a cigar, which Alyss joins in with her own cigar, not even stopped by Hippy. The last part of this story was just brutal, hope Downpour will be okay.
Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

Below is a stream of conscious commentary I type up as I read the story. There will details from the story included in it. If you have not read the story yet and don't wish to have details of it spoiled, read no further.
A Little R&R Part 3 comments

Anyone who can cook good food at Whateley will have their cottage mates banging at their door. Gravmax attacking her again, what a thug. Father is CEO of Paralink, whatever that is. Doesn't give him the right to pull this shit. Ouch, calling Sapphire a pretty like that, touched a nerve big time. Potent venom and able to spray it as a mist too, she is someone you don't mess with.
Ooo, cookies, sounds yummy. Ember swiping cookie dough like that, naughty naughty. And now Revekah and Morgan, how is she supposed to make cookies if they keep swiping the dough. And Miranda as well, 4 balls of cookie dough lost, no patience these kids. Six dozen cookies, those will be gone fast, especially with those 4 kids around. I can relate though, fresh baked cookies right out of the oven are sooo good.
Ribbon reading books, wish I could read that fast. When a wild CeeCee appears.

CeeCee, exemplar ditz from the way she acts sometimes, girl needs to learn to listen. 10 minutes to read the remaining 10 books, I want the ability to read that fast! So that is how Amy got the tools she needed, sharing cookies with Bunny, good trade. And already finished putting the orb back together with an upgraded EM core, nice. Dang, 3 dozen cookies and Amy only got 2 of them herself, those Thornies can chow down.
Adore, yeah, definite jailbait, only idiots would let her GSD get in the way of having a chance to date her. Amy blushing because of Adore, just hope her girlfriend doesn't find out. Ah, she put the orb back together but is still working on ideas for the upgraded EM core, got confused earlier. Yeah, interesting is is a nice way of putting hat Amy's mom is like. Darn, don't get hear the interesting story about Sapphire's mom yet. Bwahahaha, Bloodwolf so scared of Alyss he hurries in another direction.
Boy, Amy is getting to see some of the more prominent and even new individuals on campus, including Imp. Red flag days, it is better to learn now how to act normal or hide their differences from those who may shun or harm them now than after they graduate and have to deal with it all the time. Harsh but an unfortunate truth. Energizer again and red flag going off, poor kids having to dash and hide now.
Oh boy, learning magic and having the Wiz trait come and go, that is the worst, how is she supposed to build up essence like that. Scrabble, the game where someone seems to always try to cheat in one way or another unless called on it. *groans* The bad routine with Achoo's codename, that has to get old fast. Ewwww, hearing about why he needs to be Hawthorne and seeing it are two different things, could start a lot of fights with his sneezing.
Great, he has to take medication to reducing his sneezing and thus the sneezing fit when he forgets. Ouch, right in the face for Mrs. Cantrell, seems right out of the Ghostbusters scene with Slimer to me. Adore having to help clean up this mess, ouch, plus Achoo needs to learn not to stare at girls. Noooo! Not again, another burnout, hope they can figure something out for her soon.
Aylss hanging out with the Gearheads, her knowledge of cars probably impresses more than a few of them. Voodude, Hardwyrd, then Ricardo who is a Hispanic kid and over the top, flamboyantly gay person she has ever seen, oh brother. Shawn aka Teke, m-t-f changeling still in the process of completing his transformation. And he is a telekinetic, nice.
Hehe, seeing Toni leaping up the stairs like that and just telling Aylss she has a package, classic Toni. Seeing Ayla, thinking about irony, life is funny that way sometimes. And Rich, Alyss' son, delivered a package for Ayla. Love seeing Ayla not being given a straight answer about something and curious, how far will Ayla go to find out or will he just leave it alone has me curious.
Oh boy, going to see Amy only to be stopped by Sapphire and finding out what happened. Alyss and Sapphire rushing to Doyle to go see her, Amy acting like it is nothing again. Ooo, Sapphire threatens to spray her legs if she tries to leave the bed, tough love. Alyss joining in with talk of tying her down, at least they got Amy to lay back down on her bed. Wait a minute, Dr. Tenent tall and slender, I remember the image we have and it was shorter with some meat on her bones but not overweight, or am I remembering something else.
Dang, recovering that quickly from burnouts is preventing them from isolating symptoms and identify treatments for her burnouts. Sapphire still wanting her to stay, yet she is in psychic mode and uses telekinesis to get her clothes, darn. Bwahahaha, questioning Aylss fashion sense. Oh boy, after cleaning up that mess I would avoid lime jello for at least a week, bad association. Actually talking with Hippolyta, Aylss seems to have made a friend or at least good acquaintance.
Ouch, Roulette having to endure Power Theory with Dr. Quintain, who could make a class on almost anything boring with his voice. His ability to bore people to sleep is almost a power itself. And Aylss and Sapphire having to endure it too, poor kids. Monkeywrench, now there is an interesting kid, just looking at his labcoat might keep you awake. 'Banana peel' grenades that look like bananas, bad day for anyone who tries to take a bite out of one.
Darqueheart, similar GSD to Adore, who seems to hate attractive girls, even glaring at Sapphire, yikes. An erboreal mage even, whose hostile towards 'pretties'. Mischief still hyped up despite Dr. Quintain, seems few things can get that girl down. And even Aegis still next to Mischief, I pity him right now. An opened line of credit with Sartek, very nice. Dr. Filbert R. Z. Quintain, wrote the book on the subject for the class yet not excited by it himself, guess he prefers new stuff in the labs.
And Sapphire has a neighbor back home who can put people to sleep by touching them, stating she has a hard time imagining that he could have done any better. Jadis and Nacht in front of Amy, ugh, Aegis proves himself to be an ass, talking about them as if they are supervillains in training just because of who their parents are. And the idiot calls the Bad Seeds nothing but a gang of dangerous criminals, he calls it gathering information, sounds more like believing stupid rumors.
Oh boy, Christina Violante aka Blue Streak shows up, outs Alyss saying her mom is Lady Havoc, this girl is a self-righteous little b**** who needs to stop judging others just based on their family. Calling them criminals when they haven't done anything wrong, sounds more like she wants an excuse to attack them later, which would make her a criminal imo. And Aegis acting like that as well, those two are going to be trouble. At least Aylss is able to calm down after they are gone and Sapphire still wishes to be her friend. Pardon the French is going to become a running joke with those three, nice running joke at least.
How she can pull that off with a straight face, too funny. Wonder how long before even more girls know about Alyss making manifested dresses and such. And Tolman is okay with her gi, good. And Aylss proves smarter than several of the kids, just because he is a baseline doesn't mean he can't take you, hard lesson to learn but a good one. Iron Rose down on the mat both times she rushed in after Ito, never gets old seeing stuff like that.Still, I forced a smile and announced, "But I'm a big girl now..."
Ribbon vs. Cinderella, without using her powers Cinderella is in trouble. And a second time with powers. Yikes, sword made of glass, a manifestor who can make thing that look like glass, probably a lot more durable and dangerous as well. And ouch! The sword can hurt an Exemplar 6 like Ribbon, that is powerful. Win by tying Cindy up with ribbons, priceless.
Amy not going down without a fight, that girl is stubborn and tough. And Tolman is right, treating Amy's powers like a revolving set of holdouts is smart. And Cindy apologizes about cutting Aylss' arm, one of the nice girls. Yeah, living that long as a man and becoming a little girl, having to shower with other girls would at the least be awkward for a while. Amy, Aylss and Sapphire having Power Lab together as well, nice. Ah, learning the world is stranger than you could ever have imagine, happens even in our world.
Interesting seeing how Roulette and Ribbon settle into Whateley, all the trials they have already gone through in a few days and enemies they have made, along with their new friends. Can't wait to read more of their adventures in the future. Though the title for the next story given at the end, A Little R&R 2: Aylss in Wondercute Land, has me concerned for Aylss now.
Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

Compared to the pinup girls of Alyss' youth, she might be a bit on the slender side by way of comparison. Also, there is a bit of height difference between the two.
Dreamer wrote: 'Banana peel' grenades that look like bananas, bad day for anyone who tries to take a bite out of one.
Ehhhh, that reminds me of a much, much raunchier story and the dangers of stealing bananas.
One quote from the story which puts a lot of the students' powers in perspective:
Amy lit up at that, which made me smile, even as I felt a little sad too. I remember when Rachael was younger, she used to get excited whenever anyone showed interest in her inventions, and I was beginning to suspect that this was something a lot of devisors probably shared.

As I was reading this: "Who is Aegis...Oh...a moron."One was skinny, with white hair that was similar in color to Alyss’, though her bangs kind of curled up like a pair of little horns. The other girl had black hair and a dour expression. She seemed vaguely familiar, and it took me a minute to realize that she reminded me of Wednesday Addams, from the Addams family. The two girls talked with each other and didn’t pay us any attention.
Then, after they got their food and went off to the tables, Aegis suddenly pushed forward and demanded, “Do you know who those girls were?”

Then he and Martina's ex-roommate get all chummy and I want to retch. At least Mega-Girl and some of the others have some common sense. I wonder if those two will absolutely lose their shit if Winter tries to apply again.
I think the highlight for me is the Ribbon throwing her dress in the garbage before Martial Arts, to the horror of the other girls. Stain from lunch? Toss it in the trash. Pen mark from class? Toss it in the trash. Get caught in a rainstorm on the way to class? Toss it in the trash.
Though, I wonder if Alyss is going to talk to Tolman about her concerns with hurting other students. Alyss was particularly scared of hurting her grand-daughters on accident, and at least some of the students will end up reminding her of Kaylie. Tolman was warning her about holding back being a problem, but if that's the case, shouldn't that get straightened out in the brick supplemental class?
Is that Tolman doesn't want her developing bad habits when using proper forms?
Ribbon can't keep answering questions with, "I know this person," or "They're family," or "I'm related to so and so..." every time her family comes up. People are going to get more and more suspicious, though Christina helped accidentally continue the rumor that Ribbon is Baby Havoc. It would end up explaining a lot of the cageyness she has when talking about her relatives.

Awww, she just looks like a succubus, poor girl has GSD and is being encouraged by Imp to embrace it. I know you are probably joking, but still, I wouldn't want to be called a demon of any sort just because I look like one.Yolandria wrote: I wonder if we are going to see more of the Succubus chic Adore. I think you have the 2 girls mixed up. Your thinking of Darqhart. This is the girl i was talking about.Awww, she just looks like a succubus, poor girl has GSD and is being encouraged by Imp to embrace it. I know you are probably joking, but still, I wouldn't want to be called a demon of any sort just because I look like one.
Just as we stepped back out into the hallway, I saw another girl walking past. She was gorgeous, with the kind of perfect build that any stripper or porn star would envy, though she also had a large pair of horns that wrapped around her head to point behind her, a black devil tail, and a pair of large leathery wings.
“Now SHE is jailbait,” I muttered under my breath.
“Um ... hi Adore,” Amy greeted the girl, with a bright blush on her cheeks.
The girl ... Adore nodded back to Amy and continued on her way. I watched Amy, a little confused by her reaction. However, Amy quickly shook it off. A few seconds later, she knocked on the next door over, and Sapphire emerged.
Looks like she has some kind of lust/sexual based aura.

Well the Hero wanabees have found out the "relationship" between Ribbon and Lady Havoc, I wonder if the Bad Seeds have better info, or if they will "rush" Ribbon. Most of the Seeds would probably look at her as a kid sister. Dragonrider, Thrash, and Winter especially. The others to lesser extent, but would probably keep an eye out to help her. At least until they realize that she doesn't need a lot of looking after.
It's good to see that both the Posies and 'Thornies are watching out for Roulette. So how long before we see Team Kimba pulling Detention at Hawthorne, or at least playing Scrabble with Diz. (This is the way to keep TK in the stories, by casual mentions of Ribbon or Roulette seeing them visiting their friends in Hawthorne.)
So how long before Roulette, Ribbon, and Sapphire start playing "Hangman."
One last thing, since Ribbon made CC a dress in the middle of the day, what are the odds it disappeared while she was wearing it, out in public?

You know I so want the cape squad to be told about the 3 types of villains
The kind that choose to be villains
The kind life decides are villains
And the kind that are so self righteous that they decide for life and their victims that other people are villains.
Unfortunately because many of them are the 3rd kind in the making, this will fly over their self righteous heads.

True its mostly the Secret Squirrels, Goobers and a a few members of the Alphas that are the 3rd kind, though for the Alphas like that, its more because they see certain people as easy pickings not because they think people deserve it, and this is mainly before a certain change in leadership. however many newer members of the Cape Squad and 90% of applicants are very much the kind that decide other people are villains for them.Valentine wrote:

Diedricks is the SEXY one to concentrate on since it has the most chance of injuries and death for the sufferer and those around them. Other mental illnesses related to the powered-set will eventually get more attention as that one is brought more under control.
Another way of looking at it... if you were a Batman-type... would you want to donate funding to get the core disease of many your enemies taken care of so more of them stop being made or would you throw money at something that might make you less likely to want to save people.

Yet another way of looking at it, is that the sufferers of Diedrick's are the most likely to seek treatment, with Galahad Syndrome it will mostly be those who intellectually know they need to retire.DanZilla wrote:

I'm building a smart cooling system that uses a dimensional boundary as a heat sink and air motivation is being handled by gravitational spin. It's 20% more efficient in heat transfer than the next best commercial model and its energy cost for operation is lower than a traditional ceiling fan while serving industrial level volumes of space. *diedricks episode starts, next thing you know, the tech is the basis for a Freeze ray and ten people are in ice cubes suffocating to death*

2. Ah! I forgot about Jadis. But don't forget that Glorianna's recommendation didn't have particularly good intentions either. The joke was to keep Jadis away from the other side by making her a hero, but then Glorianna got back to school, wrote her report, and realized that she should actually be serious about it. I don't remember where the follow-up scene was, but her suggestion did not go over well with the FSA. Something would have to happen with Jadis again for someone else to get the idea that Glorianna was correct after all.

Katssun wrote: 1. Maybe JG is the lead writer of the Family Day 2007 story? There are already hints that Sandra and Monica's mother will be tricked into accepting that they've become mutants. My guess is that the Family Day story is largely from the Outcast Corner perspective. Pinnacle showing up (maybe even escorting Rachel on a single day out of prison) along with Ribbon's family would allow the gag to reach its peak. It's not like that family has to use planes if they don't need to, so the MCO can't be upset about a supervillain using air travel. They'd never even know.
Outcast corner, freshmen and characters that weren't a part of or weren't around for the 2006 Parents' Day, With some old standbys to show they are there, Its likely that outside of Ayla and her guardians visiting Puppet, Ayla will take the opportunity to form potential buisness connections, like getting to meet Shine's mother and step father, to see if they are interested in any potential french business opportunities and potentially arranging a business meeting before the relevant parties have to return home, but most of the point of Parents' Day is so that all the students can cut loose and we can see how the uninitiated family members react, as well as the alumni reminiscing, though I wouldn't be surprised if it also serves as a pretext for parties that normally couldn't be seen acting civil together due to the hats they wear, to work out agreements where they come to as close to a zero sum gain as possible, after all there are bound to be times where neither party gains anything in a feud, in those situations, diplomacy is best for both parties even though society will under normal circumstances forbid it, Whateley is neutral ground, it is the perfect place for such meetings to take place, and for those that know of the school, Parents' day provides reasonable obscurity, even if they don't have family enrolled. Another focus of Parents' Day 2007 is going to be Imp and Superhawk, on that note there's an idea in my head about how Ryan Chambers proposing to Candice Kade would go down- which might become a micro-scene or just end up in Bad Ideas for someone else to make into a micro-scene..

Then he and Martina's ex-roommate get all chummy and I want to retch. At least Mega-Girl and some of the others have some common sense. I wonder if those two will absolutely lose their shit if Winter tries to apply again.
Wait... Mega-Girl has common sense?

This is the same girl who was introduced as "Hannah Montana in a leotard", smacking into the side of Poe, right? ^_^
But yeah, Aegis and Christina are a very special brand of idiot. I wonder what percentage of the long-term grudge matches between heroes and their 'nemeses' are actually because the heroes are big jerks...
I mean, using a loose definition of hero, every single mutant is seen as a villain only because the MCO are so rubbish at employing effective interactions with a sizable civilian population.

Or maybe it's a detail that the author overlooked and I'm being an anally retentive nitpicker.
It could be just standard teenage libido.Yolandria wrote:

Mega-Girl has a special sort of common sense that lets her not prejudge other people. I think that she and Stronghold had a lot more common sense drilled into them during the Spring.

To support this, Adore is a Thornie, let us not forget. She probably can't control her powers at all.Yolandria wrote: True. It might be hormones... But based on that little passage i'm guessing it's range based. Range = glamour/aura or pheromones. And her code name reeks of lust. *Giggles*
Ribbon is immune because she's physically pre-pubescent, and mentally already well past that phase in her life (for now).
Roulette on the other hand is very receptive to Adore's uncontrollable aura.

Cait's less likely to be retaliatory. Remember, She's actually as much an adult as Ribbon and has some modicum of restraint. There's only a few ways to provoke her without actually attacking her, and she WANTS to have her job as a teacher back. Screw the funding from making stuff with the Three Maidens, she's not in it for the money. Caitlin wants, ultimately, to be a teacher again.
This wouldn't stop her from offering tips on ruining warper days, and if someone genuinely feels threatened, provide an escort to/from class when targeted. Most bullies shy away from witnesses. And Caitlin would do something like set the punk up to get nailed by Delarose.
Jimmy T?
All bets are off.
hell, Razorback's more likely. Or Anomaly, Hank Declan, Mule, and so on. Jericho would have a field day with Gravmax (once he got out of the gravity field and out of range) But so would most of the Kimbas.
But the kicker is, none of these characters is prone to organizing "Blanket parties" for imbeciles. They'll set it up so they catch the person in the act.
But ultimately, the question is... Will Roulette and Sapphire eventually stick it to Gravmax their way? Or will they wind up falling into the helpless damsel trap?

They might recruit Ribbon and some of their friends to help, but unless Gravmax actually touches them in some way, they aren't likely to run to older students or staff for help.
Gravmax just better hope that a member of Wondercute doesn't catch him in the act, because they will work up a plan to get him. Well Jade or Misty might retaliate on the spot, but Bunny, Anna, Molly, and Lindsey will get together with the rest to form a plan, probably with Sun's help.

Yolandria wrote: Cait loves her some ductape. Ask those recruiters. =)
Jimmy T loves him some duck tape too, some enhanced by Compiler duck tape.
I think the closest I got to a real reprimand from him was when I duct-taped one of the more furrier of abusers to a tree, sans most of their clothes. However the snickers from the security detail that were de-taping him from the tree, amongst yelps of pain, hinted at other things.
I did have some help on that one, though, as it's hard to get 'Bucky-fibered' duct-tape at the spur of the moment. Though I am sure Chief Delarose was mostly irked at the paperwork involved in the tape's 'appearance'. Not to mention the complaint of the Tapee. You can't just 'cut' the Bucky fibered Duct-Tape, you have to pull it off. Add one really large if not 'giant' Preying Mantis, one super-speedster and a roll of that tape, can you say 'Involuntary Wax Job?' Sure you can.
You see, Compiler had found a way to get her nano-bots to saturate the tape with Buckminster Fuller fiber chains and well; I think she is working on the patent rights for it.
Nephandus is just lucky that Cait hadn't gotten together with Babs.

With all the Junior Highs appearing, I'm surprised we haven't seen the TLW, but they're in the more normal cottages. We're focusing on Hawthorne and Poe... Bet we'll see Bethany in Magic Theory? Then again, she might be beyond Magic 101...
Adore... She isn't in the Junior High program, right? Can't find the part that made me think that... ... Gotta update Junior High count for 2007-2008...
Might Roulette's powerset post-burnouts be related to what powers she's exposed to pre-burnout? ... Her non-sleeping burnouts aren't triggered by proximity to other mutants, are they?
A Little R&R 2: Alyss in Wondercute Land... How many Alice Allusions do we have now? Ecila, Alyss... I think that's it...
Ribbon is one of the R's of R&R 2... Who says that R&R still means Ribbon & Roulette in R&R 2? It could be some other phrase...

Christina Violante might not have known the name was in use. It should come up in November when she registers for her student MID that she cannot also be "Blue Streak",
From To The Mountain, Part 2 :
" ... Don’t worry about that part too much, your first codename is only temporary; you have until spring to finalize that. After that, it becomes a paperwork nightmare to change your codename. As an example, the villain ‘Wrecking Ball’ changed his name twelve years ago, and he’s still being referenced under ‘Power Pork.’”
The way she's behaved regarding who's acceptable to be her roommate, there could be some drama to come over that.

So, besides the fact that Alyss' surname is Morgan and she will deal frequently with a student also called Morgan, which should make for a few misunderstandings...Katssun wrote: A Little R&R pt 2:
Once Alyss was gone, Mrs. Cantrel led me to the dayroom, which already had a few students there. What caught my attention immediately, was that there were a couple little girls, who appeared to be about the same age as Alyss.
“These little ones are Miranda, Ember, and Revekah,” Mrs. Cantrel told me with a faint smile. “The fourth member in this little band of troublemakers is Morgan, and who knows where he is at the moment…”
...
was about halfway finished when I suddenly found myself surrounded by four girls, who all appeared to be the same age as me. However, unlike with me, I was pretty sure that these kids were the real deal.
“Hi,” a dark haired girl exclaimed with a broad grin as she sat down at my table, not waiting for any invitation. “I’m Ember…”
“You’re Amy’s friend, aren’t you?” another girl asked, and before I could answer, she added, “She’s nice…”
The first girl pointed to the one who’d just spoken, and said, “This is Miranda… And that’s Morgan and Revekah.”
“Hi,” I responded with a chuckle. “I’m Ribbon. Or Alyss…”
“That’s a really pretty dress,” Miranda said, pausing to give me a strange look.
...what IS Morgan's gender, after all? The name is pretty gender-neutral.Is Morgan a shifter?

“We’ll help,” Miranda volunteered. “We’ll help clean the kitchen so you can make dessert…”
I just smiled at that. “That is a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?”
[Lol!]
“In fact,” Danny continued with a scowl. “She kept telling me to join Wondercute, saying that they’d protect me from the bullies…”
“But who will protect you from Wondercute?” I asked.
Danny nodded emphatically. “Exactly.”
[Ha!]
So, where do you guys think Team Awesome will rank on the Sims? ... Presuming that they do the sims.
Man, people need to learn about duels. Unless a duel can't be called in this instance of bullying or whatever?
Do you think Team Awesome will stick to being a 4-girl group?

Just add Alyss, and some judicious coaching, and you will have one of the strongest teams at Whateley.
And that will be before they're allowed into the sims.
Though I bet they'll get early access actually, if only for Miranda to get experience and learn control of her TK.

I'd guess that that's one of her many issues with the school and several of the students it has allowed in.
