A long time ago, back before the great move to this new site, I discovered the first of the Kayda stories and started picking my way through Whateley again. I didn't catch up, but I remember getting to at least the hottub social and Two Knives...
But I'm currently playing catch up again, and I'm on Kayda 2 and I don't remember any of this. ALL of it is new to me, yet it's clearly well before characters and incidents I remember, like Kayda pushing for the native americans to form a formal club, learning from her new teacher, etc.
The simple answer is that I somehow skipped Kayda 2 entirely, but my brain says I didn't, it insists that I read bits and pieces of this, but remembers none of the rest. I'm really bad at forgetting interesting books, so I'm inclined to say I'm not suffering amnesia.
That still leaves me wondering what in the bloody bloody hells I missed or is going on. Did Elrod rewrite/republish Kayda at some point, or am I just delusional? I mean, i could be, I just want to be sure.
Thanks ya'll

Kayda was previously a fanfic. Search around with Google or the forum search to find info about it? I forget if a copy was handed out or if you have to request by PM...

Kayda was a Fan Fiction Story that was converted to a Canon Story.
I never read the FanFiction, but I expect there are differences between them. I image you might be remembering the FanFiction.
EDIT: Ninjaed!

I'm mostly certain It wasn't the fanfic I read. I didn't read many back then, and this was after Whilst Any Speaks was fully published, and after the funeral was published. Kayda was a well established character by that point.

Kayda did go through a few 'relapses' along the way to recovering from her manifestation... is it possible you're get getting deja vu vibes from a combination of those with having read alternate story perspectives (she parallels in a number of other stories) or just situations that sound familiar as a result of going back over them when she has a depressed phase again?

Could be, but I swear to high heaven I've read the scene with her in costume shop before and but the entire rest of it is a complete blank and new territory. Just read the scene where she met Kodiak for the first time, and It feels off kilter, like I read it somewhere else and it happened differently. Best guess is I got further ahead on Loophole which somehow includes some of those scenes, or I read bits of this and that and then somehow skipped ahead a few stories... I dunno, it's really weird though.

Hmm... that does sound a bit like a different perspective sort of thing... ie that you read that side of it from an E. E. written character perspective and didn't realize that you missed the actual Kayda perspective version by Elrod.

Now I'm on the conversation between her and Charlie Lodgeman about the spikes, and I know a later bit occurs where they find out a spike is missing... I'm positive I recall that correctly, but... hmmm. I'm guessing I probably skipped something somewhere and am only now seeing it by rereading.
Ya know, I bet part of it could be how chapter breaks were handled on the old site. If it was broken up in more pieces each of a smaller size, I could have simply missed a few without realizing it...

The one thing you need to know is that EE and I are kind of seamlessly interweaving the Loophole and Kayda storylines. It's best to read the two series together, in the order they were published. Otherwise, you'll see something Kayda does in a Loophole story that could lead you to believe you saw part of a Kayda story already.
For example, the hot-tub party is done from a Lanie POV AND from a Kayda POV in two separate stories.
