  • More of an anthology of short stories than a single story, however. And came right on time too, since it's mid-summer to me...

And, a nitpick... Phoenix, it's "Alicia", not "Alica."

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • I think that's Elle's 2nd appearance and Jessie's 3rd.

Poor museum! Get's trashed again immediately after being fixed.

I was wondering what Billie was there for. She just teleported to DC and tried to find Hank's dad. Oh, that's exactly why she's there!

I wonder if Candice Kade would be interested in going out

As a matter of fact, she is! ;)

Insanity: for when normal just isn't interesting enough.

  • Momma Squirrel: Anna's "it wasn't my fault!" meltdown made me laugh.

In The Mood: I'll just add to the referential bonus with a little river band:

    "That's the way it began
    We were hand-in-hand
    Glenn Miller's band
    Was better than before"

Best Behaviour, or Behavior :) Best explanation of why Hank hasn't been deluged by propositions.

The Usual Suspects: Aren't they, though?

  • Really enjoyed seeing all the little summer side adventures of Whateley's students.

The reality crash Anna experienced in the last one was a nice touch. It seems an experience more Whateley students need, though none would want.
Also a bit of a shame I can't really see that crash happening with any of the POV characters except Anna. Crying over their own grandmother's, sure, but someone else's?

Any stories or Characters I put out are available to write around. Feel free to borrow them!

Ironically, before reading "Tales of Summer" I had just put a scene in my current fic where a certain blue-haired character says

"Guys, I'm just a sophomore and I had my share of problems last year, but take it from me: no matter how scary or different they are, don't take your friends for granted. Ever. My friends and I had to learn that the hard way. I think sometimes we're still learning that."

But is Anna crying over Kayda's Grandmother, or crying for Kayda's loss, or crying because she just got a shock of real people die during Superhero stuff?

  • For a moment there I thought we had another Aquerna story, but she only got two snippets. That girl is so ending up being a hero no matter how much she objects that she isn't. Here's hoping to see more stories about her.

Anna and her Wondercute friends might have gotten the shock that they could die from their combat final.

This time she was thinking about how she would feel if the things she got involved in caused her to lose her grandmother.

Anna looked up and watched Kayda hurry away, sadly contemplating what it would be like to have someone, or something, kill her grandmother like had just happened to Kayda and her brother. Tears were glistening in her eyes when Ree came up and gently touched her shoulder.

Anna's been the sort of person who really does feel sympathy for people around her, whether they are pretty or powerful or not.

As I read it, it's not the realization that she could die, or that people caught in the immediate action could die, but that death could follow them home to strike out at people who had no part in the fight at all that just pounds the stake in a little harder. For Ree it may be her first exposure to the reality that the stakes can be just as high for 'squirrel girl' or her own family as it is for Fey or Ms. Might.

  • When I said couldn't see the other POV's crying over it, I'm kinda meaning I don't think they would react like that.

One of the reasons the fandom has always liked Anna and Stacy Conrad is their realism. The nervousness, worryingness, the insecurity, that's all how real people of THEIR AGE RANGE would react to powers. A lot of the other freshmen have, as noted by others elsewhere, behaved as if they're five to ten years older. Or at least juniors or seniors.

  • I think Tennyo is terrified of her powers. Okay sometimes when she does something she thinks of how awesome it is that she can do it.
And while he maintains a cool exterior, I doubt there is a bigger bottle of angst than Ayla.

  • The thing that Anna doesn't know was how much of the bad stuff that happened to Kayda was instigated by her grandmother.

  • Hah, I'd forgotten about Billie's trip to the Pentagon. Anna felt very Anna. And oh my god, that poor museum. Bunch of good stuff in this bundle.
