  • I was a bit humored to realize that there was a character thread for Kate' mother, but not one about her as well.

I was rereading Silent Nacht, and in the first part Nacht requests that her holiday service be spent helping out a suicide hotline. Which is immediately shut down by everyone in the room. But does anyone else agree with me that Nacht might actually be pretty good at such a task? Provided that there was nobody listening in on her?

  • Well yeah probably.

The reason they turned her down is, whether intentional or not, she has a talent for dragging up issues that people don't want to deal with. That could either help or hinder the process.

She could drag up the issues that motivated the suicide, then help them work through them. That or bringing up the issues could make them go through with its.

There is no doubt that she is rather charismatic and has dealt with dark issues of her own.

  • Hmm... I assume that anyone who's reading this thread already knows about Nacht's parentage... So... Hmm... Yeah, not gonna spoiler-box things.

What might be so special about Nacht that Marzena chose her to dip into the Erebos? 'Cause if it was something anyone could do, there should be more Erebos-dipped in the world? Or might the secret of Erebos-dipping be so unknown that Nacht is the only one in the world, even though any baby could have it done?

  • Maybe Nacht's special, or maybe it's just odds, like the Drow. Maybe Marena's tried and failed up until Nacht, which I wouldn't put past her.

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Or maybe Katie isn't special. It's just that Marzena needed a baby to perform this unholy Erebos-dipping experiment, and the one she managed to get her claws into was Katie.
It may be that having access to Erebos is not an easy thing. We do know that Marzena is not that powerful a witch (look how much her M.O. involves leeching of Katie or swindling others into doing the actual work). She probably got lucky once and obtained the supplies to do this thing -- but she hasn't enough left to do it again.

Well, y'see, after Achilles, ALL the cool suburban moms simply HAD to dip their newborn sons in the Erebos so they'd be invulnerable combat monsters, and heels slipped, and there were Attractive Nuisance suits, and it was a mess, a total MESS! So the Olympians closed off the off-ramp to the Erebos, or face an eternity of litigation. But Marzena knows that there's this dumpster, out back of the Winn-Dixie?

  • Just to correct: Achilles' mother didn't dunk him in the Erebos, she did it in the Styx. But after the first lawsuits, the Olympians decided to play safe and closed the off-ramps to ALL the Hadean rivers.

  • Considering what Katie has to say about German, I have to wonder why she called herself Nacht and not Noc, which is the Polish word for night. I'd assume that she probably didn't have an MID until after Sunny became her guardian.

  • Was thinking about who her mother is again...

Could she be White Witch's daughter, along with Jadis most likely, for some hidden half-sister plot??

EDIT: ^ - Yes, I forgot to add: "Crazy Idea:"

  • If Marzena's claim that she was the one to dip Kate into the Erebos is to be believed, she really could be anyone's daughter. She might not even be a mutant at all, but more of an imbued.

Marzena probably stole her from a hospital, or scooped her up from an orphanage.

  • This seems unlikely not only does Marzena know who Nacht's mother is, but she is under a spell preventing her from revealing this information. This suggests that Nacht's parentage is being deliberately hidden for some reason, Which would be unlikely if she was acquired via a random kidnapping. There is also the fact that Marzena also had the locket, which she would have had to steal at the same time.

  • I figured the locket was part of a spell so that any and all scrying and other such things would identify Nacht as Marzena's daughter.

Which would still require it to have a picture of her actual mother in it.

But I doubt the half-sisters thing. Doesn't quite seem Bek's style. I think.

  • I was re-reading "Silent Nacht" as it was appropriate for the festive season, and i had completely forgotten about the memory-geas on Mazarena.

As with most of Bek's stories, looking forward to when they are written.

    Still wondering about Nacht's spring-break... :D

  • I love the fact that her lvl of Snark-fu is off the charts! She can even go head to head with Chaka and come out with a good chance at victory. And honestly her snark-fu is probably on of her best attributes from a readers perspective.

    Wait, Pip? I'm confused.

Oh, wait, I get it, you're thinking it was some sort of swap, and Marzena is Belphegor's real mother. Yeah, in that case the looks on their faces would be priceless. Especially if there is a Tippetarius angle for Belfo. That last part doesn't fit what we seen of Belfo in Gen2 , but...

As for the Erebos thing, I suspect that Marzena wasn't think of the Achilles thing at all. My guess is that it was supposed to be a human sacrifice, but didn't go as planned.

    Out, damnéd Spot! Bad Doggy!

Do we know for sure Marzena even did it? Or did she just steal Kate after someone else did it, then tell Kate and the cult she did it?

My takeaway was that Marzena is a total sham in almost every way.

  • Impossible WMG, since I think Nacht would recognize Elyzia's face, even from a cameo?

Elyzia as Nacht's real mother, 'cause they look like Morticia Addams and Wednesday Addams respectively, sorta.

Nacht has only got called Wednesday Addams from Murphy...

    ----

Wait, needed more D-s... Gotta rerun my searches...

Ok, more than one person noted Nacht's Wednesday Addams-ness.

And Nacht / Kate speaks like Wednesday Adams but neither looks nor acts like her.
