  • The spiritual daughter of Imp [and step-daughter if the fans had their way], she is to fun to read about and just plain fun. Even when getting into trouble she keeps a flippant attitude, just like her idol Imp, and never seeks to physically harm others, just humiliate them. With both of them coming to Whateley and all the other zany, crazy, fun characters already at Whateley, Mrs. Carson might have to hire on some new staff just to keep their antics in line.

  • Yeah, I'm guessing that Mischief will pretty much immediately go on the short list of prank perpetrators.

Four-way prank wars with Beltane, Jade, and Rosethorn? 5-way with Absinthe?

I've got a feeling that soon Whateley will be looking fondly back at the days when the most excitement they had was a Shoulder-Angel War.

I actually think Mischief would likely find an ally in Jade. Which is terrifying...

Too many factors seem off for that to be true. One: She isn't Norse, an Exemplar or Wizard, which are things you would think Loki would have. Two: The Olympians would probably recognize a fellow ancient god reborn and ruin any surprise. Third: Loki's stunts were less playful, more malicious and he was known to hold a grudge. Not something Mischief s likely to do, ever. Fourth: I doubt the canon writers would want to open the can of worms her being the reincarnation of Loki would cause to all their plots.

But that's the beauty of it. She Loki the god of mischief, a trickster.

    or, she is Coyote.
Native traditions, Cotoye is the trickster for most of the nations. For some it is Crow or Raven

  • It was good to see inside Mischief's head and home life, for this part, especially as we know that her concerns and fears will be put to rest.

I'm waiting until somebody makes a crack about "Mischief managed", though. :P

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Because even if Carson gives her sewer detention for some prank gone bad, she will never be managed, no matter how much it would make a nice Harry Potter reference and all. You can't cage a free spirit or the wind. It would just drive her to learn how to not get caught the next time she pulls a prank.

You think the shoulder angel war was a big deal? What about the year when remote controlled cars hit the campus? At least shoulder angels were on peoples' shoulders.

Jamie's spirit (at least the primary one that interacted with him/her the most) was Thunderbird, not Coyote.

Thinking of that though, that does make me wonder about Chaka's boyfriend Thunderbird, who is also described as having the spirit of the Thunderbird. Perhaps he's just bonded to "A" Thunderbird rather than "THE" Thunderbird?

My bad. Got his spirit mixed up with the coyote lore. Heyoka the contrary one who did everything backwards.

  • Questions, questions, questions.

Will she join Wondercute? She does kind of fit their mentality.

Will she join the future super heroes of America? Nah, that's a stretch.

Will she try and join the bad Seeds claiming that her future step mom is a super villain?

Will she start an Imp fan club? Or should that be a The Imp fan club? Come to think of it, are there super hero/super villain fan clubs on campus?

Will someone add an Imp smiley to the school's systems?

More importantly, at the end of her first day, did she jump on the phone to her father and tell him that The Imp was her art teacher, and if so, how long before he pays a visit? 8P 8P

No she didn't, she just made sure that there was absolutely NO possible way he was going to miss Parents' Day

No THAT would be the execution, particularly if its a giant mural wall that previously did not exist, or if the painting was fused into the wall.

  • From the Whately weapons fair:

'I knew that Bugs would have some cool gadgets and devises. But I also knew enough about her to know how her gear would look. I walked over to her table, and - sure enough - people were already bitching about the pastel egg cases. I sort of eavesdropped as she tried to make a sale to a big, macho thug who looked like a junior or a senior.
She was insisting, "But really, Render. This is the perfect protective carapace. Nature developed it over billions of years of evolutionary testing! And you can't find many anti-missile devises that have actually been out at the Whateley test-firing ranges for evaluation under field conditions…"
"Look, I don't care if it's tested under field conditions or not! It's a fuckin' pastel egg! Do you know what'll happen if I whip out an anti-missile devise and it's a pink pastel egg? I'll get laughed out of the Cataclysm Fan Club!"'

  • I do. I also know that not everyone is absolutely fascinated with finding an ugly bumping partner. Or even a partner of any sort. I guess I'm just asking my questions because everyone seems determined to ship Mischief and Monkeywrench. To me neither seems all that interested in anything other than their projects for Monkeywrench and the next prank she can pull for Mischief. Oh and Mischief is very interested in studying to be a cat burglar, until the work of actually learning the trade gets tough...

  • A Touch of Mischief wrote: Sarah used to be a good friend, but over the last year, she'd been visited by the puberty faerie, who had been very generous. Because of that, Sarah had become really popular in school, especially with the boys, and now thought she was too good to hang out with any of her old friends. Of course, Melissa was a little jealous of Sarah, but not too much. After all, Sarah might have big boobs now, at least compared to most girls their age, but she didn't have cool superpowers like Melissa did.

And while no teenage girl is going to be complimentary of herself if a peer is more developed, it looks like Mischief is still in the early stages of puberty and probably not looking for a date.

Mischief is one of the more likely to overlook physical looks when finding a partner. Not saying she's going to date Icky Micky, but I doubt she's going to let a bit of GSD stop her from dating someone.

Melissa has casually remarked in her own head that she finds Rapier attractive.

    Mischief Managed:

Rapier was still facing Redcoat, which impressed Melissa. Not only was that boy totally cute, but he was really brave too. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to be doing well.

She thinks of him as cute quite a few times in the story.

She's also among the many many girls that find Danny kyoot.

So, while she's not on sexual overdrive like a few of the other students, she's very much in the normal range for high school freshmen.

  • I was never saying that Mischief was abnormal (except when I wondered if she might be asexual) but rather trying to spur some discussion that didn't involve Monkeywrench shipping with Mischief. While I'm sure that Mischief would not be off put by him, she apparently hasn't noticed him in that way. She has noticed Rapier but so far it seems to be a low key response.

As far as finding Danny Kyoooot! Well I expect nearly every girl of any age will find kitty boy to be nearly irresistible. I think that is some sort of instinctive response in the female of the species. Though there will be some men who will see him the same way and not have the 'oh my ghod I must be gay' or 'he must be trying to attract men' reaction that causes them to want to obliterate that which revealed something to them that they don't want to acknowledge. But he will remain for the most part to men a cause of much dissonance.

  • We have had very few stories with Mischief in them, and even fewer from her point of view, so just because we have not seen her pining for some boy or girl is no reason to jump to the conclusion that her thoughts never go in that direction. It just hasn't been relevant to any of her stories yet.

  • Pulling this here because I want to discuss more specifically to Melissa.

Sir Lee wrote: Actually, consider: Mischief was never trained by anyone who understands warping. Yet she found not one, but multiple things she can do. She's not really pushing herself, and yet she can already do several different effects with her warping. One wonders how powerful she can REALLY be if she applies herself to developing her power...

Out of all of Morpheus' characters, Melissa might have one of the scarier powersets. It's her disposition that keeps her on the playful side. She's realized recently after being attacked by Triangle in Berlin that she might want holdouts. How different would she be if she was the type of person who wanted them right away after Jackass and Paradigm? Or already had some when she met Imp?

She causes total chaos in combat already. What if she has an incident like Misty did during the sims? I hope she never ends up in a situation that pushes her that far. I think the attack in Berlin and Monkeywrench's injuries will keep her grounded, and she never gains the same sense of invulnerability that Wondercute started to develop when they were in the sims.

But Melissa does get tired when she uses her powers a lot, or in quick succession, where Misty doesn't, or when Glow actually gets stronger the more she teleports.

The only thing that would be even more terrifying to a group like Triangle would be a Glow and Mischief tag-team attack. No idea when or from what direction.

Any guesses on what holdouts her aunt will make for her? Or Imp/Amy will provide her? A knife with a little bit of Sapphire spit on it might not be a bad choice either. So would self-adhesive grenades (stink, glue, smoke, all non-lethal of course).

  • The bad guys are really in for it if Melissa has a watershed moment where she looses her playful nature. She can be 1000 times more devastating than she is now if she decides to fight for real.
