  • Out of date info from 2006ish or whenever he was first written compared to the now of modern understanding of dinosaurs? Or just something JG had a special plan for from ages long past.

  • He's the avatar of a Pre-Sundering warbeast designed to deal with Class X type monsters. That just happens to resemble a raptor.

Ah, but artwork Caitlin saw seems to indicate it was the Gaia's Daughter who Noms inherited the power, etc. from who commanded and thus created them. Not a Sidhe mad scientist. At least based on what little we know.

I'm not sure if Jacks gender change was a part of his avatar's effect. Wasn't his inner self in the middle of the spirit male. That suggests a form derived from a bit.
So if you have a exemplar with a strong bit countering the avatar transformation then that would explain the differences between himself and normal stalkers and even alpha stalkers.
Exemplar powers added to the alpha stalkers impressive.

  • nope.

Jack himself is pure avatar. He's just not a strong enough avatar to contain the Pack-Stalker. Hence why he looks like a deathraptor

  • Although I must say I'm really curious as to what it would be like to be the Pack Stalker Avatar with a large hollow. What benefits can the Pack-Stalker grant other than being a badass deathraptor?

  • I would LOVE it if someone wrote Razor's origin.

Avatars and feature adaptation makes me wonder about Aquerna... does she have her squirrel claws because her hallow is too small and the squirrel pushed out those changes? So either the Spirit of the squirrel is a HUGE spirit, or Anna's hallow is really, really small?

I think some of the changes can be voluntary or forced by the Spirit. Our Kitty boy/girl has a hollow that should be big enough. But his spirit is forcing the form.

Actually, part of his issue is that his Hallow WASN'T big enough.

Nope. Danny's hallow is too small for Wihinape, thus the headaches from the earlier stories and him having to transform into kitty girl to help ease the stress so she doesn't have to force any permanent physical changes on him or at least they won't be as severe as they can be with him doing so.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

  • Most likely for Anna the claws aren't so much the spirit forcing it as a case of "How else could it give her power, but to give her squirrel claws." If she learned more control, it might actually be possible to revert that when she didn't need it. OR her hollow is just barely too small for it. Barely.

  • Razorback is what happens when an avatar 3 houses a spirit more appropriate to a 5 or 6.

he's still just a chibi version of that particular monster.

    Two minor points.
    1) it's a HALLOW, not a hollow. HALLOW. With an "A". (pet peeve #57)

    2) I've noted - his hallow IS big enough, but the theories of avatars' hallows and spirits are still being refined. In Danny's case, his hallow is technically big enough, but it follows a form relating to his own body, whereas Wihinape has a spirit form that doesn't fit. It's like having a cube of 1cc and a sphere of 1cc. Technically, they're the same volume, but you can't put one inside the other without deforming one or both of them.
This developing theory of spirits and hallows having form does explain Razorback - he's an extreme case of Spirit-Hallow Mismatch Deformity. Anna MIGHT be a less severe case.

There's still a LOT to learn about spirits and avatars.

  • Yeah, the distinction between "hAllow" (as in an avatar) and "hOllow" (as in Erik Mahren, who was a Hollow Man) is important.
Mnemonic: "A" for "Avatar", "O" for "Ornery".

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

I wonder how much of a connection there is between the two. If you were to rip the hallow out of a person would that leave a hollow? It could explain the controllable aspect of them. And there constant short circuiting.

Depending on the spirits to which they are attuned it could even be a wholly holy hollow hallow, assuming it's allowed to be hallowed.

I did, they threatened to sue, so I told them Bowser had Princess Peach. Now Bowser is apparently threatening a lawsuit because he didn't do it this time, and I'm STILL trying to get you to pay for all the damage you've done!

Why would Bowzer be after Princess Peach?

So Razor gets hired by the Aussie Government to keep the weird things in the Outback and out of the Inback (towns).

  • Ah, the stuff in Australia's Outback isn't dangerous.

We'll OK, potentially its dangerous, but it's not like snakes and spiders are gonna mount an invasion of a town now is it?

It getting rid of the feral animals most park rangers concentrate on. The camels, water buffaloes, dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, goats, foxes, and especially, the frighten cane toads!

  • Copperheads? Ratterlers? Pansies!

Look I'm not saying it's true that all ten of the most deadliest snakes in the world are from Australia ... OK, OK, it's more like the top nineteen, but who's counting? And the spiders! It's unfair to say that about Australian spiders! At least TWO spiders in the top ten are not from Australia. OK, so they're from the lower five, but still! Two of the top ten aren't Australian!

And not everything in Australia is trying to kill you! You want me to name something that's not? Well, OK, huntsman spiders are like some of the biggest spiders in the world, and they live in your house and stuff, but they are TOTALLY not poisonous! The ... just run fast. Very very fast. Fast enough to run down cockroaches, and are tarantula like looking and jump out at you in cars and cause accidents and stuff, but! Totally not trying to kill you!

What? A giant jumping running tarantula looking spider isn't your idea of 'not dangerous'? Even if it isn't? You want something else?

    Umm ...

    Ummm ...

Look, don't rush me! And no, I'm not going to go with the Terry Pratchett joke 'some of the sheep!"

Quokkas! Quokkas are cute and unthreatening and totally not trying to kill you! You can take selfies with them!

What? They're extinct on the mainland and restricted to a tiny island of the south west coast of Australia? I don't understand your point?
