  • An interesting character so far... looking forward to seeing where this minor-celebrity status she seems to have comes from.

  • Ok what have we got? Lapin means rabbit. And she is hiding her hair, but martial arts boy wants to see it and obviously knows her.
Is she really rabbit girl, doing everything a rabbit can?

Now that that I see it written down, that last sentence can be taken in so many bad ways. Screw it, I'm not changing it.

  • Actually, Taka asked to see her ears, leading me to believe the bumps under her hat are rabbit ears, cute ones too according to Taka. Now is it GSD with Exemplar, an avatar with a rabbit spirit, or something less obvious but connected to rabbits.

  • Well, I don't think I'm spoiling, after all, the hints I dropped before and now, to say that yes, there is a bit of Leporidae involved in her mutation. As for how? That would be spoiling.

  • Given the G2 Announcement doesn't mention Lucretia but does mention someone called "Luke Del Bosque" written by Nagrij, together with the cryptic comment "Just watch where you step, and mind the bunnies. Sometimes they are invisible." I'd say it's quite likely she's one of this year's batch of Changelings...

Of course, we may have to wait until Part 4 before the group finally make it through the gates of Whateley...

  • Lol,

It was mentioned in a story that one of the movie nights at Poe had been "Grave of the Fireflies", "Watership Downs" seems like an appropriate sequel.

Maybe after that they can do "Dark Crystal" and just keep working their way through children's movies to scar you for life.

    ... "Return to Oz"?

Unfortunately one can only be half fluent in Lapine, as it only half exists. There are maybe 100 words of it, the grammar and conjugations are suspect, and it would probably fail the purpose of any language (which is to be undestood). BUT... it's not like no one reads watership down....

So many different fun things to do here, so little time.

  • Interesting fact about rabbits is that hey don't actually like carrots all that much. Despite being to the familia rodentia they prefer leafy greens to crunchy things.

Also what type of rabbit is Lappine based off of if any? Many rabbits have ears that hang back over there bodies or even flop down when at rest.

Before anyone asks yes I was the one who included the ideas about needing to chew a lot in Mice in the Churchhouse, I know a bunch about rodents okay.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

Um... I hate to break it to you, but rabbits aren't rodents. The order Lagomorpha is related to, but distinct from, order Rodentia.

I remember a children's book called Leo the Lop about a lop-eared bunny trying to fit in with a bunch of straight-eared bunnies. Fairly standard "It's okay to be different" moral.

Heh. No. And at the risk of spoiling, Lapin may or may not have mutations actually based on rabbit physiology; Technically without some definite rework, ears and tails such as most bunnies sport would not be functional just grafted onto a human; there is some adaptation required on the part of both species to get working alternate biology. They do certainly look rabbit-like, and act the part... but aside from appearance, I don't know if you can make the claim that they are in fact, 'rabbit ears', or based off a specific type.

What she does have, is a BIT which forces the appearance. Why that specific appearance? BIT's do some weird things.

I can confirm however that Lapin did not get the crazy and inefficient digestive system rabbits have.

Cool, not a biologist so I didn't know that. Actually make my point a bit more valid theoretically since the defining feature of rodentia is the constantly growing teeth which they have to keep chewing on things for. Thus the name which means "to chew" or something similar.

  • I always thought they were a bit excessively aggressive to that poor bunny, I mean all they needed to do was pet it a bit! A good scratch behind the ears, maybe a bit of lettuce and the poor lonely thing would have followed them all the way home!

(OK, then they have the problem with an anti-social, very aggressive bunny that only lets the happy-patty kids near it, and has a tendency to go for the throat, but still! That's no reason to call in the Church and unleash hell on it!)

Respectfully, absolutely not. There are just as many reasons that Tia belongs in Melville than there are for her being in Poe. The first and foremost being that she's an international celebrity, and everyone already knows her secret. It isn't like Melville hasn't had a number of open changelings in it before.

Melville also has the means to keep more of "the riffraff" out, and slightly better security, which could keep her safer from clinically psychotic (before the Deidricks!) ex-girlfriend Jamie Howe, at least infinitesimally.

In Gen 2 anyway, a student body that believes in preserving the dignity of their members and that means treating Tia like one of them, and not someone to be ogled when she starts modelling or harassed as openly. The general student body of Gen 2 is even less tolerant than their Gen 1 counterparts, and look at how Kayda has been treated now that she's out. Tia's an outed changeling, and moreover, a lightning rod for pro-mutant and anti-mutant politics. Melvillians in Gen 2 want to keep their reputation above all that, as we saw in the party scene.

Ideally, she would be in Poe getting support. But just like Belphy, Tia is connected to and surrounded by role models of class and femininity, many of them sympathetic toward what happened to her. She's also in the Gen 2 changeling deportment extra sessions anyway, so it isn't like she's totally on her own.

Tia is also already "wealthy", thanks to a constant stream of lavish gifts from Ibby and her sponsors. The other gearheads are messing with Lancers and Peugeots, while Tia has a customized 918 Spyder! She has business connections through her sponsors as well as her mother's clients if necessary, and a brand image to uphold. She's much better off doing that in Melville, living the pampered bunny lifestyle.

Respectfully, absolutely not. There are just as many reasons that Tia belongs in Melville than there are for her being in Poe. The first and foremost being that she's an international celebrity, and everyone already knows her secret. It isn't like Melville hasn't had a number of open changelings in it before.

And if she shows up at Poe to talk to her friends, they aren't going to kick her out.

Actually Poe probably has better security than Melville given all the spells Mrs. Horton has on the building.

  • I'm guessing that Melville has its own wards. Mrs. Horton's might be better, but they won't be inadequate either.

  • Do we know what Concierge's (Miss Bellamy) powers are, if any? Mrs. Horton trusts her though, so that's a strong endorsement, and none of the residents dare to cross her. We don't really even know much about the other two house-parents, or what they're capable of, not to mention that Melville was completely rebuilt, so there could be wards and spells in the very walls and floors! Just that Matthew Woodruff, covering the upperclassmen, is scary, and "Lindy" is a devisor.

Plus, Melville has Hikaru, Defender of Mutant Maidens, as Tia's RA.

I also forgot about Tia's "other" problem. The one she requires medication for. Melvillians, this time around, have class, and would never be too particularly forward with a girl, especially with Tiff, Hikaru, and Concierge around. Poe on the other hand, is notorious for its residents that are rather..."aggressively frisky" with the side the fence(s) they ended up on. We've seen several so far, from Bianca, Laura, and Morgana's perspectives. It would probably be best if Tia wasn't subjected to that kind of environment given her inherited condition. Thanks to the news stories, everyone knows Tia is 16 as well.

I'm a sucker for a good documentary, and have been enjoying Amazon's series on Playboy Magazine and Hefner, American Playboy. It's really interesting that from the beginning, the magazine was meant to promote a lifestyle first (a well-read, educated, classy one too!) and the smut second. Even more interesting to me was how long Hef, the magazine, and the clubs have been strong advocates for civil rights and social justice, no matter the topic. Kind of a perfect fit for their latest representative to be a mutant, especially if she was forced into it. But she has always liked high class cars from the beginning...so she definitely appreciates the lifestyle she's fallen into.

I could see her promoting non-weapon devisor/gadgeteer luxury lifestyle products (e.g. Hydroflux) once she gets over her phobia.

  • A thought had I, just now. If there is anyone in the world who gets what Tia is going through it would be Harley Sawyer. Because hardly was literally put through almost this exact situation. It turned out a lot better for her than it did for Tia but she'd understand a lot of what Tis is going through. I wonder if anybody is considered asking Reach to drop by and talk to her.

  • It's a little bit different though.

Spark was told she was tricked and had made a mistake almost immediately. Jamie now wants to kill Tia for "stealing" Luke from her. Reach's change only became news around Whateley. Tia's was international news for weeks.

I don't think Reach's happy-ending story will help Tia much. Tia's better off with Hikaru, even if Hikaru never tells Tia what happened to her.

  • The ending is different, the adjustment not as much
Both were attacked and chickified by crazy devisor girlfriends for wrongs they were innocent of. While Sparks only went off because of changes, it would have failed entirely if the intent had not been there.

If there is a person, aside from empaths, anywhere on earth who knows exactly how Tia felt when she realized what Jamie did, it is Reach.

Plus it would just be cool to see Reach again.

Alt? Get Spark to talk to Jamie maybe? Far less likely though.

She seems to have convinced herself, somehow, that she didn't do anything to Luke and that Lapin is at fault for everything. Until she accepts reality, she can't be helped, and she truly does need help.

If it's the product of her mental illness (that she had prior to her manifestation) I doubt anything short of a real and heavy therapy will make her able to see what has truely happened.

It's not the transformation, it's not the visuals, it's the dialog that breaks your brain ...

What is the name of this Anime? I've seen the opening credits and now the transformation scene, and both times I've had a mind break from the words ...

I thought I was stronger then that, I'm feeling the need to watch it just to see if it's my mind or their mind that is broken ...

  • So, now that we know that there is a Jamie Howe story in the works, shall we try guessing again at her specific psychological disorder that hid her deidricks?

I'm guessing jealous delusional syndrome that doesn't quite hit the criteria for becoming full blown schizophrenia. There's hints, now that I look more carefully. Mention that she and Amy had several explosive arguments over time, mention that after her testing, she wished she had gotten the full exemplar package (like Migraine in The Big Idea), and eventually the incident itself.

Tia, as Luke, and her parents, failed to notice because Luke was always the focus of her jealous psychological outbursts, and they had been close for many, many years. Her hatred of Amy hinted at before the incident could have come from Amy's casual interest in Luke. Her current psychotic hatred of Tia is her filling in the delusion that Tia "stole" Luke from her, even though she caused it, because her delusional foundation is centered on "Luke."

I wonder how bad it'll be if somebody actually convinces her Tia IS Luke... or that he didn't cheat on her.

barring telepathic intervention, that seems like it'd be pretty much impossible with her level of illness

  • Given that after turning Luke into a bunny girl, Jamie immediately began to conflate Amy trying to steal Luke from her with Tia, and reinforced this belief many times since, I don't imagine there is much that can be done for her. Her memories have determined that "Tia" was trying to steal her boyfriend from her. I honestly wonder if she even remembers Amy being involved at this point.

There's also the fact that Luke noticed Jamie hitting him harder, that she's probably also a low exemplar-1 without a BIT, and if she was taking any medications, they don't work anymore.

Jamie had some particularly specific behavioral quirks where she showed the signs of her underlying issues, in retrospect, and it's very likely chemically/mentally permanent now that she's manifested.

If her issues are actually that bad, it would "sort of" solve the problem... because it would mean she needs to be somewhere SAFE and SECURE that is nowhere NEAR her victim... which never should have been allowed to happen to begin with.

Meaning she should not be at Whateley.

  • "Tia del Bosque v. Jamie Howe" is a political proxy battle between the MCO and Vanguard though.

Someone is ensuring Miss Howe got moved to Whateley instead of staying under house arrest in California.
Someone will manage to find a way to prevent Tia from obtaining a New Hampshire restraining order.
Someone will prevent her from being expelled, or find a place outside the school for her to continue her work if she does.

Thus spinning the plot into increasingly convoluted directions as more and more of what Vanguard is up to comes to light, and why even though their goal might seem noble, they are still too dangerous to be allowed to continue. Methods are not justified by ends.

  • But this is where the nature of what happened to Tia gets really ugly!

What Jamie accomplished is huge to the mutant world. Others have been attempting this for nefarious means, like the good doctor. Others have been attempting it for the good of others, like the BIT Slicer, like the project was meant to be used, etc.

Even after the accident, even when they see what/who Jamie has become towards Tia, would they still back her to get at the results of her work? Would Ayla back her? Would Jade? Would Sapphire?

Supporting Jamie is a bit of a moral question.

  • Ayla? No, she probably wouldn't.

    Why?

Reach. Ayla has already SEEN someone do what Jamie did. Not precisely (REach was already a mutant) but it WAS grafting a BIT onto someone who did not HAVE that BIT, and making it stick.

Spark. Grafting a BIT onto someone who DIDN'T have a BIT of any kind already (Reach, as a shifter, has some kind of BIT already). It stuck, permanently.

We don't know what happened to Migraine.

Jamie's achievement is only different in that it grafted a BIT onto a non-mutant. Which, for all we know, Spark's Engram could have done. We don't know because Carson stepped in and suppressed a LOT of experimentation that might have happened with that.

Jamie's result really isn't that much more succesful than spark, and BOTH are devisors. Ayla would back Spark over Jamie in a heartbeat. Spark isn't insane.

From "The Big Idea", and it isn't pretty.

“Oh?” Jenny asked, worried despite herself. “Is she all right?”

“No, she is not. As a matter of fact, she’s had a total breakdown, which started with a violent episode that made Reach’s wakeup tantrum look like a hissy fit. We had to bring in Fubar to slap her down. Her condition isn’t quite as bad as I’d feared. She’s not dead or brain-fried. But it’s bad.” She passed glossy photographs out to the Cadets. The figure in the pictures was like something out of a H. R. Geiger portrait of a sexy insect-woman, somehow both beautiful and sensual, yet horrific and utterly inhuman, and all the more alluring and disturbing for the contrast. Her face and body were perfectly formed, an Exemplar ideal of feminine beauty. But the face and body were formed by a rigid segmented insectile carapace with harsh edges and thorny projections. And Geiger would have included a pair of all-too human eyes staring out of the hard mask. Her eyes were covered by a pair of blank lids that revealed nothing.

    “Ewww …” Interface recoiled.

“How can she FEEL anything?” Rez asked.

“She can’t,” Carson replied. “She is completely encased in that exoskeleton of hers. She does appear to have taken on the strength and dexterity of an Exemplar/ level: 5, but instead of becoming a fluid, responsive symbiot, Spark’s fullerene compound appears to have fused with her skin to form that shell.”

  • But unless you know Tia's side of the story, or are willing to believe the far-nastier Gen 2 MCO, many people think Luke got what he deserved, and Jamie got railroaded by a miscarriage of justice.

We've been getting the "biased truth" as readers. The media is generally on Jamie's side.

Ayla would find out the real story through his network. A lot of others wouldn't.

  • Having Tia at Whateley means the story is slowly filtering out. Even Jamie's friends, if she has any, will start questioning since they at least know Tia IS Luke, while Jamie believes Tia and Luke are different people.

  • True, but the Academy is a microcosm in the greater Whateley Universe.

Tia is generally well liked in her circles. Jamie? Well, we don't know yet.

And it's only week two or so. Things change. Look at the spat between Tia and Hikaru. Seemingly inseparable pair, snarling at each other over differing opinions on a single topic they're both heavily invested in.

Edit: The only people, so far, that know Jamie believes they're two different people are Tia, her Mom, Ibby, the guy on the plane, Jamie's parents, and maybe the cops, lawyers, and a judge or two.

She usually runs around calling Tia a slut, which matches the "cheating boyfriend" narrative. I'm sure it will slip out, but it might be a while.

the opening scene was from Densha Otoko ,

"Densha Otoko (電車男, translated as Train Man) is a Japanese movie, television series, manga, novel, and other media, all based on the purportedly true story of a 23-year-old otaku who intervened when a drunk man started to harass several women on a train. The otaku ultimately began dating one of the women."

Wait … that opening is for a love story?!? A completely normal, nothing weird at all, boy meets girl, boy too shy, boy saves girl love story?!!?

however the transformation scene was from the semi-but not really spin-off Getsumento Heiki Mina

"After establishing contact with extraterrestrial civilizations, it was found that humans were the only race to develop various sports. The number of alien sports fans grew dramatically, and the most fanatic of them regularly harass stadiums for taking part in a game, or demanding a good show, etc. Finally a treaty was settled, ruling all interferences towards other planets' cultures illegal. Rabbit Force, a group of rabbit-themed henshin (transforming) girls, became responsible for enforcing the treaty and capturing any offenders."

OK, that's more like it … though how the hell that spun off from the above!

Huh. Yeah, apparently the opening animation was a reference to the Daicon III and IV Opening Animations , which you can see here and here , as well as to the opening animation from Galaxy Express 999 which is over here .

As for Getsumento Heiki Mina, it looks like that started out as a fictional anime within Densha Otoko, and then was later made into a real standalone anime (but with a different plot from the fictional version). So, that's why there is zero relation to Densha Otoko's plot.

What this all means, of course, is that the Whateley drama club needs to recruit Tia and put on a play adaptation of Getsumento Heiki Mina so that the chain of convolution can continue.

Well now you could ask Frost Diabolik about that, or rather her dad. He evidently didn't think 'saving humanity' justified Dr Reaper's attack on Darwin, but he's not above dropping untested devisor chemicals into a municipal water supply in the hope of increasing the IQ of the populace.

He's also not trying to wipe out most of humanity, but he IS willing to accept hundreds of deaths per incident. I suspect the thousands of deaths in one go that resulted from that volcanic eruption were NOT in the plan.

There is a reason Dr. Dad is strictly a B-list Supervillain. Death count.

Mr. Hefner will be missed, even if I just got the magazine for the articles.

I think he got a long healthy life guarantee from Gothmog for services rendered.

    Hmmmm, Whisper had Uncle Gothmog,
    And Lapin had Uncle Hugh.

Which Uncle had more to do the sexual activity of people.

Don't knock the articles. They were just as informative as the pictures were. Some better than the pictures themselves.:freezing: :toohot:

  • Some of the articles were good, some not so much IMO...also, I like Hooters because of their wings... ;)

That being said, we lost another veteran of WWII as well, he served in the Army 1944-1946. He also was a champion of many good causes and a defender of the rights of Americans after his time in the service. While some view his lifestyle and his magazine as immoral (or other, less flattering terms) he did much that was good. I didn't always agree with his views and stances on political and social matters (hey, who always agrees on everything? Seriously) but the man did far more charity work than people give him credit for. He was a unique, and in my view, great American. Rest easy Soldier.

  • Don't forget the man's contribution to the field of writing and science fiction; while he was in charge, an entire host of writers from Bradbury to Vonnegut were published in Playboy. Some even got their big start there.

As for Tia's uncle Hugh, he's had some work done, but it's mainly tech-oriented, not magic. Either way, he's set to live for a while yet.

  • In the "read Playboy for the articles" front... their interviews were certainly worth of notice. I mean, they ran on average what? Four, five times longer than what other periodicals published? And pretty much every interviewee was someone interesting and memorable. That by itself would ensure Playboy a place in the history of journalism.

  • True. But let's be honest, one of the largest demographics buying playboy happens to be young males. I have some experience with young males, as I was one. Lots of the young males I knew never looked at anything but the pictures. Maybe that is a military thing, but I doubt it.

On the other hand, there are people that go to hooters for the food, not the scenery. My grandfather loved their fried chicken sandwiches. We didn't have many good chicken sandwich places around here back then but we had a Hooters. He'd always want to go to "that place with the sandwiches". I don't think he ever looked at a waitress while we were there. My grandmother on the other hand, well, at that age you can get away with saying whatever you want. Her comment was, "If those shorts get any smaller they will need hairnets". Dr. Pepper through the nose really burns...

  • As I am asexual, quite literally, the photo spreads did nothing for me. The very few times I've ever held one of the magazines, I was reading one of the articles.

  • Yeah even if your gonads survive testicular torsion, they do leave you scratching your head at the some of the antics dues to a decrease in desire.
