Question Danny Franks - Kayda's brother

oh goody, the catboy comments can start flying.

not a shifter, permanently a catboy, an exemplar 4 and a water element power. ( cats and water )

A young boy runs into room followed by a horde of screaming animals known as girls who plow into him as he struggled valiently to leave.

Kayda! Screamed the boy as the girls began to smother him with their bodies. Slowly they found that he was transforming before their very eyes. Smaller and smaller he became where a small snout appeared followed by a set of large beady eyes.

On each side of his small black nose whiskers appeared as with a small set of teeth.

Overall his body had shrunken down proportionally as his body grew a thick set of brown fur as well as his hands and feet taking on the appearance of small claws.

Each of the girls gave a loud squeal as did he as they ran frightened by him. No longer was he the adorable boy they had been chasing after but a retched mouse. Scurring away from the girls he found himself frozen when he heard the sounds of an evil hiss. Looking around his small black eyes fell upon the approaching cat.

Running as fast as his little legs would let him scurry he found himself safe, or so he thought when he had maneuvered himself under on of the girls doors.

It was then he noticed that the girl was giving him an evil hiss of her own when she scooped him up and placed him inside a metal cage.

Now I got you my pretty. And I'll have your sister too, snarled Tansy.

and with Danny at families while mom and dad are at Whateley for the riddle of sappho arc there is the perfect opportunity to have him start manifesting to be on campus for the fall term.

Knowing her brother and with the history of their family with mutations [okay, only Kayda] he would end up an avatar as well with a Native American spirit of some sort. Probably something which causes him and his sister nothing but trouble as it is a trouble magnet. Need to look up Native American spirits.

Does the Wendigo myth go that far south? That would cause a lot of trouble.

I'm actually rather fond of this portrayal that was posted in the Mischief thread:

Danny wanted to cry. Mischief had started it, and it had all got out of hand so fast and now Mrs. Horton was on the way to call his mother, and Danny just knew his mum would then call Kayda and she'd tell her everything she saw and then he'd have to try and explain how he ended up naked on the common room floor with four girls laying all over him.

It just wasn't fair!

Sniffing Danny tried to remember how it had happened. It was all so inocent! Mischief had come over for some maths tutoring, and when she mentioned it at lunch Cover had got jealous, so that had meant it had turned into a tutoring session with both Mischief and the Three Little Witches.

Everyone had come over to Poe, and Danny had quickly taken them to a study room, and it'd had all been going fine, till Clover got bored and stroking him, making him purr. And then the ears had come out, and that got Mischief also stoking him, and then he'd started getting fur, and Clover had started cuddling him and ...

Danny was still in shock, he hadn't even known he could do that, transform fully into a mountain lion. The girls had squealed in delight! Catching him, and cuddling him and removing his school uniform form his now cat body, and their squeals had attracted others, until the whole of Wondercute in the room next door plotting for their next sim had found him too.

It wasn't until Kayda had walked in that the shock of seeing her had broken the embarisment and allowed him to transform back ... naked ... with all those girls clinging to him. And then Mrs. Hortan and come in!

Danny put his head down and cried, life was so unfair.

Going the shifter route with his powers influenced by his emotions would actually be kind of cool.

a were only, he wouldn't need whateley, the Mediwhala(sp?) tribe could easily teach him.


what puts him in whateley, and why in poe?

First, the Weres are NOT the same thing as mutant shifters, even if their abilities are similar. The Weres have a whole lot of other issues involved, not the least of which is their Blood Rage, which this character concept wouldn't have. And being a mutant would qualify him for Whateley, especially with his sister already attending there.

Second, I'm more interested in the character concept itself rather than the cottage. Change a few character names and a scene like this could just as easily take place in Melville as in Poe. That said, also mentioned in the Mischief thread was that he could be an avatar with a female spirit (cat spirit in this case), prompting his parents to request that he be put in Poe as a precaution, even if he doesn't end up a changeling.

There are lots of ways a concept like this could work.

"Well, if you find a nice girl like Kayda did, we'll support you in that too dear."

Danny took a seat on the train glaring at Kayda as she sat down in the seat before him.

"Look Danny, I'm sorry, and it was the only shirt they had in your size!" Kayda apologised again.

"But it's pink! And it has this stupid cat thing on it ..."

"Hello Kitty." Kayda murmured, almost as red in embarrassment as her brother.

"Whatever, why couldn't we just have gotten my bag and a new shirt from that?" Danny demanded.

"Because we'd already handed it in, look I really am sorry I spilt the shake on you, but it was the only store on the platform selling shirts, and that was the only one that fit."

"How would you like to be turning up for your first day at school dressed in a pink shirt!" Danny demanded, red faced, scrunching down, then in horror he felt cats ears growing from his head. In embarrassment he pulled up his hoodie and pressed himself into the corner between his seat and the window.

"Ooh kitty! You must be on the way to Whateley too!" Danny tried to crouch further down in the seat, mortified as fur started covering his face, desperatly trying to hide from the voice.

Feeling a bump in his seat, he turned to see a girl sitting next to him, hand outstretched. "Hi!, I'm Mischief, I'm starting at Whateley today! Ooh, that looks so soft."

At the sound of muffled giggling Danny turned to face forward, unbelievably betrayed as Kayda broke down and laughed out loud to see her brother pressed deep into the corner of the seat, desperately trying to escape the attentions of a cute girl hell bent of cuddling and stoking him.

I hereby nominate Phoenix to become a canon writer for Danny and Hank.

Well he seems to be having a really good time with Danny, and he obviously did a great job with Hank, so I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

Sorry, but Danny is Kayda's brother and thus falls under the jurisdiction of elrod. If elrod wishes to allow Phoenix to write such a canon story working with elrod to do so, then it is okay. Otherwise we just have to accept this is all fan fic and whatever elrod has planned is official canon.

"Oh! Now this is heavenly!" Danny started. Cautiously looking around, trying to see who it was that was speaking. "I'm so glad I listened to Wakan Tanka, this is just divine!" continued the voice.

"Hello?" Carefully Danny inquired, shocked to hear someone talking about Wakan Tanka, the Lakota Great Spirit his sister communed with.

"Hello yourself." The sultry voice replied back. Danny's eyes widened in disbelief as he finally 'heard' where the voice was coming from.

"You're in my head? How can you be in my head!" He demanded, more then a little desperately.

"Oh darling, you know how! After all, like your sister you are an Avatar, and with all the issues she's been having, there was no way that we could leave it up to chance who got you, so Wkan Tanka asked me to come and protect you, and I just couldn't resist."

"Like my sister? Avatar? I'm not going to turn into a girl am I?" Panicking Danny jumped up and desperately started looking all around.

"Oh, now why would I go and do a thing like that?" The sultry voice murmured. "After all, a girl has needs." Danny could all but hear sounds of lips being smacked in her voice. Confused, hyperventilating, desperately turning here and there, Danny almost welcomed the darkness as everything faded to black.

Okay, no more taste of power for you. You are getting drunk and trying to make poor Danny suffer because of it. And I still think it would be cute for him to meet the Three Little Witches and one of them develops a crush on him. The sheer amount of chaos and trouble you could hit Kayda with, without the usual angst, would be immense. Making Danny manifest while visiting and thus the girl saying they are destined to be together would be icing on the cake.

Now there's a situation. A young boy with the avatar of a sexpot of a spirit who has been deprived for who knows how many eons.. What possible harm could that be.

I wrote this as a Micro-Scene a while back, so I figured it's worth throwing in the mix, (although, to be honest, the adorable cat-boy with a female cat-spirit IS intriguing me!)

Kayda's little brother manifests - as a Canotila (a North American woods elf known to the Native Americans) and is kidnapped by the Canotila band in the Black Hiills. They've had no male members of the band for a couple of centuries, so ......

The following are snippets of thoughts and conversations associated with the event:

Pete Franks (pumping fist, grinning, aside) - "Yes! That's m' boy!"

June Franks (frantic): "We have to rescue my baby!"

Pete Franks (to wife) - "We'll save him." (aside) "If he even wants to be saved!"

Kayda (pouting) - "Why couldn't THAT have happened to me?"

Debra (kisses Kayda passionately) - "That's why!"

Kayda (nearly swooning) - "Oh, yeah. Never mind!" (kisses Debra very passionately)

Little brother's best friend (grumbling) - "Lucky stiff!"

Brother(grinning broadly) - "Not after last night"

Pete Franks (to brother) - "You won't think it's so neat when you're changing dirty elf diapers!"

Brother (to Kayda) - "Hey, does that school of yours have any devisor Viagra?"

Boys gonna have a harem before he even gets there making others jealous and putting him in cross hairs.

At least the part with one of the TLW having a crush on him is in there. And with more girls after him, he will need to not only ask his older sister for advice but her friends as well. This is going to put chaos not only into his and Kayda's lives, but could hit a good part of the campus with the antics involved. Now if he is a kittyboy because of being an avatar and having a cat spirit, you could amp up the chaos by making the cat spirit be a black cat which gives him uncontrolled luck control that makes "interesting" things happen to and around him.

we haven't even speculated on powers yet.

I'm a bit curious about whether you had planned this before we started speculating, or whether we inspired you to make him a catboy or girl.

Actually, the speculation did help me refine what I'm going to do. So if y'all give me ideas, I might use them

And it all started from me making a suggestion of having Danny visit Kayda at Whateley and one of the TLW getting a crush on him and the antics that would follow. Then everyone else decided to think of further ways to torture the poor boy and it snowballed from there. Great, now I have to keep an eye out for an angry Danny for helping start this mess.

Well, it seems Billy Two Knives has forgotten a basic principal of training, you ONLY DESTROY MORALE by being negative 100% of the time.

so at some point Danny is going to need a lot of power very fast. Maybe his mom is in mortal danger. And. Channeling that much power that fast will trigger ireversible changes. His spirit will warn him but he'll do it anyway.

Thats my theory on how Danny will become Dannie anyway.

I was thinking of two best friends one called Shaggy with red hair, and another called Scooby who was a were-dog at one point, both of them energizers who needed lots of food. My beta reader nixed it.

Working in drag is not a stretch for Shaggy and Scooby. Fred has many times had them dress up to lure the ghost into one of his Schimmelhorn trap. (I would have approved of anything involving Scoob and Shag)

I'm with Sir Lee on this, I think that Wihanape is having way too much fun playing with Danny to actually change him and lose the amusement of his reactions when she muses about doing so. Go for the mental cruelty rather than for physical change as a change of pace.

To understand the dynamic, think of Wihanape as Elrod's alter ego, and Danny as his favourite mouse, the one he goes and plays with when writing Kayda has blocked on him somehow, then he carefully goes and files all the fruits of that frustration fuelled chaos until the perfect opertunity arrives for him to reverently retrieve it and insert it into a story.

Maybe Danny stays Danny but when manifesting into his spirit changes to Danni which traumatizes him not wanting to change into his spirit.

Actually I like the idea of the big, buff, basically baseline dude turning into a catgirl cougar.

I don't think this is really the case. Sure, it might bug her for a little while if Danny seems to "get off easy" compared to her own manifestation, I don't see Kayda being quite that petty. I certainly can't imagine her wishing her brother went through everything she did, so while she might be a bit resentful at first I feel like she'd fairly quickly get to the point of being grateful if he doesn't have as hard a time of it. I certainly don't think him getting to stay a guy (if that's what happens) is something she'll hold against him.

And nowadays she's started to realize that being a girl isn't all that bad. Especially when Debra is around.

Now I'm puzzling with something relating to Danny. Kayda and Adalie were joking about setting up Danny and Amelie (Addy's little sister) - who they have to rescue during the summer (according to Addy's premonition). And it MIGHT be a little dangerous still for Danny in his hometown. Should I take Danny along on the trip to France? It'd give me an excuse to tease him more, under the guise of keeping him safe from the muto-phobes in his home, and would let Kayda and Addy have fun teasing him about Amelie - like "you ought to be her girlfriend while you can - before you change more!" and stuff like that

Not sure. Oooh - and from a combat final story, it looks like Ayla is going along to France, and might have to take along someone who would ADORE a kitty-boy (you'll have to wait for the details there). So THAT could be more fun. The question in my mind is whether I want to focus on Kayda and Addy, or introduce Danny to the mix for some side hilarity.

Going to France, fun. Going to France with your big sister and her two BFFs, no so much fun.

Many a virgin in the military has lost their virginity through the guise of just looking. But be that as it may they are also heavily regulated and tho they are frowned upon it is a business also.

As for Danny going on the venture of seeing France I would say yes but under the guise of wanting to keep an eye on him if he were to manifest. Or perhaps to see if there are those more familiar with spirits. Wanting to keep him safe and within arms reach if things are dangerous at home, hence the need to have him leave.

Perhaps Alya as another suggested in having another male along for company as with a way for Danny to meet others who's own change did not go well. Have how Danny reacts to the idea of changing from various peoples perspectives. This would also allow a way to gain more insight on Ayla and how he's adapting and his own worries and such.

Suggest the two go to a town, get lost in an unknown area and find that the girls are into things that are strange. Danny manifesting as he oogles the girls and needs to go in drag to escape.

But that could be a story in itself. The kitty that mewed the night away.

OK, lets pull out some movies, and general insanity.

-He's at the airport and he's paged, at least his name is. He goes to see what's going on, as does another person. The other person is killed, and Danny gets a wierd message from someone who doesn't give him a chance to talk.
He finds out he's been moved to first class, or maybe economy if he's already first class.
In Paris he's paged again and given a file and several documents.
Then intrigue, spying and stupidity occurs as people think he's a mutant spy and he has to stop something that he doesn't understand.

- As he's getting his bag in Paris, there's a commotion and he's knocked down. The person keeps going since he's being chased by the police/MCO/Criminals/spies.
Unbeknownst to Danny, he know has a jewel/magical tome/microfilm/SD card/devise.
He's being hunted by several parties and doesn't even know it.

-He buys a chocolate bar and gets a golden ticket to Billy Bonka's Chocolate Factory. When he and Kayda go to visit it, they're kidnapped and forced into slave labour to make a chocolate army to take over the world. (Oh wait this is for Tink.)

-The Burgermeister (a mad gadgeteer) see's Danny and thinks he'll be perfect for his soon to be opened Enchanted Valley, which features real live fantasy creatures. Danny's kidnapped by a telephone booth and taken to a submarine, where he meets elves and goblins who are busy preparing everything for the big day.

-Zombie Nazi's riding cloned dinosaurs attack!

Taking Danny to France might have been a lot of fun, story-wise... but it would also be REALLY STUPID on the part of his parents, and therefore hard to justify narrative-wise.
Danny has just manifested; he is changing; HOW MUCH he's going to change, or how fast, is still an unknown factor. Consider all the problems he would face if he no longer matched his passport photo while abroad...
Also, newly manifested mutant. Still unknown which powers he is going to get from his spirit. Recently-manifested mutants, as a class, tend to have control issues.
He doesn't have a MID yet. OK, he could get one before traveling. But he still hasn't been indoctrinated like the others on the essentials of when NOT to offer your MID unsolicited...

Really, what sort of parents would allow their child to be half a world away, in a country he only knows through bad Hollywood stereotypes, doesn't speak the language very well (if at all) at this critical juncture? If he wanted to spend the summer somewhere safer than at the farm, he could intern with the Sioux Falls League or something. He probably would like that, too, since he would be around Card Trick...

I thought I remembered reading in one of the stories, Jade had planned on spending part of the summer visiting/staying with various members of TK including with Ayla in LA. (Or it might have been part of a Fanfic, or I dreamed it.)

Taking Danny to France might have been a lot of fun, story-wise... but it would also be REALLY STUPID on the part of his parents, and therefore hard to justify narrative-wise.
Danny has just manifested; he is changing; HOW MUCH he's going to change, or how fast, is still an unknown factor. Consider all the problems he would face if he no longer matched his passport photo while abroad...
Also, newly manifested mutant. Still unknown which powers he is going to get from his spirit. Recently-manifested mutants, as a class, tend to have control issues.
He doesn't have a MID yet. OK, he could get one before traveling. But he still hasn't been indoctrinated like the others on the essentials of when NOT to offer your MID unsolicited...

Really, what sort of parents would allow their child to be half a world away, in a country he only knows through bad Hollywood stereotypes, doesn't speak the language very well (if at all) at this critical juncture? If he wanted to spend the summer somewhere safer than at the farm, he could intern with the Sioux Falls League or something. He probably would like that, too, since he would be around Card Trick...

But, but,. but It was Elrod that asked. So we supplied an unreasonable answer. I just wonder if Danny would want to learn to do the can can. And what parents would send their son halfway around the world. Culture. Any parent worth their grain of salt would want to send their kids abroad so they could have a nice quiet time when boys become girls and girls become engaged and so on and so forth. Its a plot device that can be found on page 132 of the stupid acts of incompetent reasons to justify a given plot. No real reason is needed and perhaps he'll manifest at the right moment thus saving the day and the fun in how he or she sneaks back into the U.S. with a new passport and so forth.

Sir Lee, the flipside to that arguement is that Danny, an emerging avatar, is being sent off with Wakan Tanaka (Damn sp?), who could possibly know more about what is happening and can influence things quite dramatically.

If Danny did go I could see his mother going too, giving a way to withdraw Danny from the story as the real Kayda/Charge story heats up.

Honestly I'd rather see Dannie get her own story while big sisters out of the way overseas. Also it has to be something in the real world so that Kayda can't just walze in and solve things in the dream world.

I just realized something, Aquerna is going to have someone to tutor in the use of fighting claws.

Pity she's got a squirrel spirit and would be uncomfortable with cats, might be the only girl Danny could be around without issues.

She got used to being around Tabby and working with Chat Bleu in class. I'm sure she could get used to working with Wondercute's newest victim recruit.

Danny may not follow his big sister to France, but getting him a considerable distance away from home would probably be a good idea, since (a) he's got a Lakota spirit and (b) if he stayed behind, he'd be a big target for the various entities after Kayda (Unhcegila's already targeted Debra once).

Then when he eventually does get to Whateley, it's remotely possible Elrod will hijack Miyet (at least for inserts into Danny's tales - much like Chou [and Molly, with a brief cameo by Dorjee] with Kayda).

now, for some real ideas for Danny.

his physical changes are more akin to a gymnast in build, not beefcake, he gets fur, cat ears and eyes and a tail.

the fact his spirit is female only becomes apparent when she manifests to power/protect him in the same fashion Kodiak manifests with Wyatt and Grizzly with Loophole.

maybe once he arrives at Whateley the magic arts staff convince Mrs. Carson to allow expansion of his hallow, since they know what will happen and can be prepared for it to minimize the trauma on him.

This would make him even more adorable for Wondercute and the cat girls on campus. at least until the spirit manifests and it becomes obvious his spirit is a female spirit.

Here's hoping that Danny gets proper cat claws that grow upwards out of the bone near the joint and then curve to point roughly forward, rather than the "pointy fingers" approach most people use when designing cat people. The main downside with real-style claws is that using tight pockets becomes harder, but typing and grasping things would both be way easier since the claws would be kept out of the way, and the biomechanics of using them in a fight are better too (easier to keep your fingers from bending back as you put force on your claws, which means you can swing harder with less chance of hurting your fingers).

I'm currently working on a fanfic catgirl story, and yes she has proper retractable claws instead of pointy fingernails.

I know almost nothing about the topic, but my impression was that retractable claws don't work in normal human hands, because there's nowhere to put them. Are her hands going to be more pawlike? How do they work?

Her feet are completly pawlike, and her fingers will be shorter and thick by human standards with the last segment of each finger being noticibly chunky. But still with a thumb and enough finger length to be able grasp things effectivly.

In his normal human (kitty-boy) form, Danny will NOT have retractable claws, although there is a form Wihinape can project that DOES.

And there's a form Wihinape can manifest that is undeniably female.

I believe projection is less corporeal, in the physical plane that is, then manifesting, projection is an image, manifestation you can "feel", both shell-type and independent body manifesting are manifesting, the difference is a letter on the power ratings...

The use of the term "project" does make me curious though...
