  • I hope this is the right part of the forum for this. If not, would someone please point me in the right direction?

Doppler Press has brought out my first Masks story as a Kindle e-book!

I have been writing these stories for over a decade, and am very pleased to see the first one published .

It is a superhero story set in my own universe. The main character does not want to be a costumed adventurer. However, circumstances force him to adopt a female hero ID. (It seemed like a good idea at the time...)

    Should I delete this version?

    That sounded kind of wrong...

  • Hey, congrats on the publication. If you like, I do have a section under Stories for links to published stuff if you would like to be included. It's mostly authors atm, but I have no problems putting up community member stuff too.

Main Menu link STORIES -> left sidebar menu link PUBLISHED

Or alternately, you could just put some banner art in your sig and advertise it yourself by chatting in the forums. :)

Thank you. I think that was the location I was trying to find. I just remembered that before the big change a couple of years ago there was a place for people to promote works they liked, including their own.

Update: Okay, that's still not what I was thinking of, but it looks pretty good. :-) Please go ahead.

I have actually been a published author since the late Seventies, mostly in the gaming industry. I even wrote an entire organization book for Champions. My publication history has been pretty sporadic, though.

I am also embarrassed to admit I don't know how to add a banner art. I should probably check the FAQs.

I'm actually embarrassed to say, because it was so heavily - and badly - edited. It was both editions of _Neutral Ground_.

After I saw what they did in the second edition I was soured on all commercial writing for over a decade. :-(

  • Adding art to your signature can be done under the additional settings page. You can find the button for that in the Left sidebar menu while in the community area (like when you are in the forums). It's near the bottom of the menu, between User List and Policy/FAQ. There are actually a LOT of site and forums settings under that option... that most people haven't even touched (and would probably answer lots of previously asked questions).

... What's the page time limit under Forum Settings? Oh, wait, I've set that to "All", I guess it changes how many pages I can access in Recent Topics or something...

  • Got an update for my published stories!

The second of my Masks stories has been published by Doppler Press via Amazon:

    www.amazon.com/dp/B073SLF4G4/ref=sr_1_1?...emplate+the+intrepid

This is a short novel of about 20k words, and covers the establishment of the Pine Island Academy. Template finds herself looking back fondly on the days when all she had to worry about was mad scientists and superhuman brutes.

  • I asked this elsewhere in BC, but.. what happened to "My Summer Job", which originally was the fourth Masks story? Has it been bundled in one of the four published books? (Doesn't seem so, given the table-of-contents of the published books). Is it going to be bundled later?

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • The third and forth Masks stories were put together in the third book. From the folks at Doppler: Masks IV went seamlessly after Masks III into the third book.

The fourth book (the original Masks V) is a bit short, but, honestly, nothing else really went with it.

Addendum: Full disclosure, here; I haven't actually seen the contents of any of the e-books. However, I have no reason to doubt what the Doppler folks tell me.

  • As it turned out, the fourth story - which details Energia's Summer internship with a super team - did *not* get included in the third book. It will be published as a Kindle freebie instead.

Meanwhile, the fifth Masks book is out:

  • Update: The Energia story "A Super Summer Vacation" was supposed to have been bundled in with the third book, but somehow got left out. It has just been made available as a $0.99 book through Doppler on Amazon:

    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HR4MX6F/ref...38657&language=en_US

The folks at Doppler and I offer our apologies for the confusion. This has been a learning process - and a painful one - for all involved.

The story of Champion and the Assembly has also been published as "Some Assembly Required":

  • The eighth Masks story has been published:

    www.amazon.com/dp/B07MWSTVZ8

When the opportunity arises for Lawrence Hawthorne to investigate accusations against his long dead mentor, detective Mack Risk, he recruits several other friends of Mack to help. This results in a group of superhumans in late middle age - and older - going on an expedition into the Rockies near the Canadian border.

If the police knew about this there'd be a manhunt. If their life insurance companies knew they would cancel their policies. There's life in these aging men, yet. As well as super powers. They're engaged in serious business, but there's no reason not to have fun while doing it.

This is shorter and has more sex than most Masks stories.

'Cause we only have the first few Masks books on there.

Maybe also have Pizza Princesses of Wasamon's, *shrugs*

  • Doppler Press has brought out my ninth Masks story as a Kindle e-book through Amazon, as of June 23, 2019!

    It's at:

    www.amazon.com/dp/B07TBTTQ7S/ref=sr_1_1?...456&s=gateway&sr=8-1

An attack on a school is a horrible thing. However, this is a specialized place of learning for superhuman children. The government which is supposed to be protecting the school is actually spying on it. Worse, some members of that government believe that those at the school shouldn't be allowed to exist in the first place. The Pine Island Academy therefore has to call on the worldwide superhuman community for protection... and justice.

Oh, and Template is... WHAT? How did that happen? Well, besides the usual way...

You can also still buy the previous Masks stories as a set at the link below!

  • By coincidence (it was a surprise to me last night) Doppler Press has released the eleventh Masks story just after I finished posting the preliminary version of the twenty-third:

    www.amazon.com/dp/B0861ZY9VX

As always, the "official" version was rewritten and has additional material added. Some of the changes were in response to reader comments on the first version.

This story opens with one of my favorite sequences: Template flying with her baby. It has several other sequences I am proud of, as well as one of the best Masks plots overall.

  • My Fourteenth Masks book has been brought out by Doppler Press, through Amazon:

    www.amazon.com/dp/B08XN5K94N

There is added material in this version over what was published on Big Closet, and previous material was rewritten.

This is largely a "What are they doing?" story, but what they're doing includes learning to be a newly-minted woman, how to fight crime as a superhero and catching up with friends and acquaintances. There's also an amoral shapeshifter tasked by the President to rally various supers to fight an upcoming alien invasion. Besides all the boring bureaucratic stuff involved in getting the world ready for said invasion. :-)
