It's not really a surprise. Everyone knew Elrod is doing basement devisor experiments to force Regen his shoulder. And JG finally hit the end of his "OMG these stories have been badgering me to write them for two years now.... just... get... out!" period and is back to writing from a point of being less ready to explode if he doesn't write as fast as he can. Add that to the Summertime writing slump (which has ALWAYS been a factor with the WU... I'm not sure why, but we've never had the writing output in the summer that we do the rest of the year... that goes back pretty much as long as I remember.
We do have stuff scheduled through the end of Sept, and Bek just added a four part story to the 'in progress' / 'gimme some feedback' pile that isn't reflected by the schedule at all... so we're in no danger of going completely dark any time soon... but, ya... nothing for today. Unless you want something random for the sake of having something new... maybe I can dig something up from my personal stacks...

Kristin Darken wrote: No update. We'll probably have a month or two of one per weeks before the next wave of having a huge pile of stuff happens. Whether we go back to two per week or have to go all the way up to three for a bit will depend on how much comes ready at the same time.
That's good to know! Nothing broken, just that there's not as much that you all are ready to run with as you might like right now.

Pet Theory of the Day: The Western education system is still scheduled to avoid conflicting with farming, so we're programmed to want to do lots of other things during this time of year.
Plus, writing and editing tasks seem to work best going at their own pace. Even people who are paid to be writers and editors work faster or slower from one time period to the next.

First, back in the real old days, the wealthy were the ones who could afford to send kids to school. Not the farmer counting on his 9 sons and 12 daughters to keep the 200 acres going. Planting (the first labor intensive part of farming) happens in the spring. The second major labor demand is found in harvesting, which is fall. Originally, schools for poorer farmers were actually open mostly during the summer and winter, when the extra labor was not needed. Historically speaking, the middle and upper class people of yore actually fled the cities during the summer because of heat, they would go to places with lower humidity and lower temperatures. The absence of the students was what drove the "summer break". as the older NYC school calendar was a whopping 248 days per year...
A late 1800
s era push for school reform and standardization resulted in the "modern" schedule. The reason for the summer break period was that it dealt with two major issues. It accounted for students being out of the area and teachers writing their own curriculum (as was common back then).
The newest research (last 20 years or so) shows the summer break is having a negative impact on many students, particularly those of lower socio-economic backgrounds (who typically get less parental support in their education). Which is why things like "Summer Enrichment Programs" and "year round school" are becoming more popular.
The agrarian origins of the summer break are a quaint, but sadly false narrative. But one that sounds better than the reality of "rich folks left for the summer and took their kids with them because it was too hot".
I will get off my soap box now, sorry for the rant.
Also, no story?! Argg!!! I really needed one after this weekend training session I was at made me miss multiple football games.

Or the reality that if I never have to get up again at 5AM to get the cows in for milking before school it will still be too soon.

?? There was a Monday release after the weekend. Usually one expects a Friday release to help one relax after a long, hard week.

That can't be right. He hasn't gotten to the one where Mr. and Mrs. Carter lead an armed mob to try and kill the Turners, yet.

*Hits MadTechOne with anime mallet repeatedly* We all wish to know what happens next, but we don't threaten the authors, even jokingly. Next time we put you in a room with Jade for five minutes and tell her to be "creative".MadTechOne wrote:

Oh you mean that story I have been poking at slowly where I have a villain awkwardly trying to be a hero?

I accept my reprimand, I know I went a little to far even jokingly.
I am just chomping at the bit to see when it goes and if a long lost family gets back together.

Nope, not late until after 7 PM Central timezone, just 2 minutes under 2 hours now. And even then I would wait and be patient until at least 30 after before calling it late.Anne wrote: I know I shouldn't complain, but I'm just wondering, is today's update running late?

For those who may or may not be concerned that there is nothing to publish... our current release schedule includes a Monday release every Monday between now and November 20th. If we get a number of stories all at once, we'll probably start doing two per week again... because we're scheduled about as far out in time as we like to get.

It's nice to know there are enough stories in the pipeline to keep us entertained
