  • I'm curious and trying to work on something for part of my stories.

What sorts of powers do we know dynamorphs and/or Power stones can grant?

So far off the top of my head I think we've seen powerstones grant flight, toughness, and blaster abilities and the same seems to be true for Dynamorphs, but is that all, and precisely what sorts of blaster effects/toughness/flight are they capable of granting?

  • In Loose Cannons we see quite a few Dynamorph abilities, including energy swords, teleportation, super speed, gigantification, energy beams, and girlification.

In Imp-perfect World we see a set of power gems that provide super strength, kinetic abilities, mind control, levitation, teleportation, and a power booster.

I don't know if we've seen any gems or dynamorphs that provide Wiz, Devisor, or Avatar traits, but I'd imagine that almost anything else has appeared on a power gem or dynamorph at some point. And I wouldn't even count out those three either, although Wiz/Avatar power gems probably are generally called something else because they're being named by finger wigglers rather than powers theorists.

  • Dynamorphs and Magic don't mix, but you might be right about Power gems

What does, "don't mix" even mean? Our only source is the Green Witch, and she doesn't elaborate?

So it could be "Absorbs All Free Essence", "Converts all spells to Hobgoblins", "Spontaneously generates spells", "Gives too much power to the Dynamorph, allowing them to attempt manifestation", etc?

You forgot instant explosion of and artificer grade aura effects. Also known as total glitch outs. Those are fun possibilities.

  • It usually means that Two things have nothing to do with each other normally and don't work well in concert.

Maybe think of it like trying to play a Nintendo DS cartridge on an Xbox?

I was thinking styrofoam packing peanuts and JP-4, on a stove: it could be fun; it could be catastrophic.

Yeah, that could be a good explanation.

Valentine, what was total protonic reversal again?

  • That's when you cross the streams of your proton packs, like when you are trying to close the portal the Keymaster and Zuul the Gatekeeper opened, so Gozer does not come through (and in the process cuts off the power source of the Giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man).

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Power stones are a 'one thing' only sort of booster. So, technically, you 'could' have a power stone that grants enhanced Essence attraction (duplicating Wiz rankings). Without a lit Well, it wouldn't have any visible impact - it'd be drawing Essence to someone incapable of accumulating it. Working magick would involve skill and knowledge that just wouldn't be there. And just as you can have spells (or devises) that create the effect of any given power... using TK, throwing lightning, using fire as a shield, etc... a power stone 'could' duplicate that one 'technique'. The key there being 'technique' as opposed to duplicating the whole trait.

Dyna-morphs... are generally a non-spirit version of spirits for non-avatars. Hosting a Dyna-morph can generally have much the same result for a regular human as hosting a spirit can for Avatars.

  • How specific are power stones powers?
Could you have a power stone that let you make power stones, that let you make power stones,
    I.E. A recursive power stone/ a viral proper gating stone/ a pyramid scheme stone.

  • heh.

No one's ever explained the origin of power stones.

But I doubt you could generate recursive power stones.

  • The WU very much runs on TANSTAFL principles (Their Ain't No Such Thing As a Free Lunch). Magic in particular, but everything else too. For everything there is a cost, and the trick is finding it before it bites you in the tuchas. If I ever find a powerstone generating powerstone, I'm viewing it with extreme suspicion.

  • Just because it rips your life force and soul out and congeals both into pretty baubles that grant amazing powers to other people doesn't mean you can't be friends!

No, its the agonising death and inability to communicate effectively from the great beyond that prevents the friendship from forming.

But I'm sure when they find the 2 power stones where you used to be they'll appreciate the gesture.
