  • I was thinking that it would be a good idea to have a lending library where people can post their OCs that they are leaving open to people borrowing, and that it would be a good idea to have a general biographical form for them, that describes the characters, powers, personalities, descriptions, and so forth, building a general database of usable characters, and allowing hteir owners to set limitations on the usage ( i.e. "do not kill, maim, or permanently mangle")

I think that the basic essentials would be things like

    Codename:
    Name:
    Age:
    Ht:
    Wt:
    Eye color:
    Hair color:
    Skin color:
    Distinguishing features:

    Powers:
    Equipment:
    Limitations/Weaknesses:
    Affiliations:
    Location/Residence:

    Personality overview:

    Bio:

    Notes:

    Character's current availability status:

Anyone else have some ideas for needed subjects?

If we can make a good list and keep it updated, it might help people that want to loan out or allow their OCs to appear in the non-canon works.

all suggestions are welcome, and if we get this rolling, maybe it can get a pin, for easy access?

  • The general idea is good to me, though I think that the data should probably be stored on a wiki, or in a drop-box account. I think trying to keep it straight here would be a lot of work for the admin. But I'll leave the final form of what ever we decide on to the keepers of the Whateley verse...

  • I just sorta thought people could post their OCs up here, and be responsible for updating them on their own

  • Like I said: the final idea and the form it should take will be up to the keepers of the site. I'm not saying we couldn't do it in a thread here similar to the Micro-scenes thread.... But that may not be the best way to do it.

  • You could edit the first post to be a Directory of sorts linking to the different posts with each author heading sort of like this.

    Ex)

Or we could create a Discord group and I could make a bot that would tag OC characters and all you would have is type &[codename] and you would get the run down on specific characters.

    Anyway My OC

  • One thing I'm concerned with so far a doing these as a forum post is that eventually you will have a mass of posts that are not very accessible and the whole point of the exercise will be made moot because no one can wade through the posts and find anything except almost by accident. So if we're to do this we need to think of how to create a searchable DB from the beginning. Otherwise it will be like trying to make your way through the bad ideas thread. Nigh to impossible for a new comer as the thread keeps growing and has all the organization of a herd of cats high on Absinthe's glamor.

Seriously. Retconning Metro's and Valravn's back-stories with new events pretty much makes them DOA before the WhatIF stories start up.

    Forum-posted ideas are freely adoptable.

  • All my Whateley-related OCs, past and future, are available. Kill them, maim them, make them teachers; whatever. Attribution for non-trivial uses is appreciated, but as long as you aren't claiming ownership of them, I don't really care. I do reserve the right to mock you mercilessly if you get their characterization wrong, and of course I'm under no obligation to reciprocate nor to reflect your uses in my own stories.

These characters were made at different times so they don't all follow the same format.

Ahh...I'll post it anyway, though the format is different.

  • Here are two other versions of Mary I came up with after I found she couldn't be a vampire girl, names and key details changed so that they aren't the same. First up a Shifter.
Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

Next up the schizophrenic manifestor. I actually like the idea a lot but she would be hard to write as a main character, and she'd overpower the story as an important secondary character. As a tertiary character she could work here.

  • So, why couldn't she be a blood-sucking vampire?? ... *shrugs*

    ...

OH... Ramping up the threat level slowly, and starting small, keeps the clones from being an instant death sentence! ... And also the "They don't really try to ''kill'' her" bit.

And the 4th Wall Sight is always funny / cool!

  • I decided not to have Mary be a vampire because there was already one there and I didn't want the possibility of stepping on any toes to come up. As you can see the change didn't exactly leave me stuck for ideas.

And your idea is a no. At the end of 24 hours the manifestations evaporate into the ether. Magic might hold them, but it would require specialized spells and a whole host of unknown risks.

The "fourth wall sight" you're talking about the probability warper Probably? I liked the idea to. She has the potential to be extremely powerful, but that power comes with a huge enough drawback that she avoids being a Mary Sue and has enough problems to stay interesting.

I think by "4th Wall Sight", Malady was referring to the hallucinations that she would have of being on a reality TV show.

I do think that it would mean that she should be looking for another director.

Watch out for her following you...

My tired brain hadn't even thought of that, with the original write up I hadn't given a specific focus for her mental illness, and I wanted to avoid the traditional movie symptoms while keeping it grounded on actual experiences schizophrenics have with the disease. It seemed the most interesting.

And if I was writing her, she could rest easy in that this would be about the worst thing that would happen to her. And frankly what I plan for other MC's and secondary characters is far worse, at least in the short term.
