  • I had an idea for a game! The idea is that one person will post a song, and then the next person will post a character or power set inspired by the song. Then they will post a new song for the next person to be inspired by. For example, someone might post this song , and then I'd describe a character who can fly, but only when totally relaxed. Then I'd post a new song.

Let's start off with a song that everyone knows! I'll Make a Man Out of You

  • Okay I'll take up your challenge

Lee Cheng (I'm not good at names)

Start off with the obvious bit, powers. The song clearly lists 4 requirements "Swift as the coursing rain, strong as a great typhoon, with all the strength of a raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moon." I'll only use the first three and save the last for personality. First thing I notice is that all of these things are known for having specialized telekinesis, so first I was think a variable specialized telekinesis, but that doesn't really fit as they are said to actually have those features. So I took a note from Wanton in Worm and decided on a magic based elemental shifter who shifts to wind, water, and fire.

The final requirement deals with the personality. He is a bit reclusive, tends to keep to himself. Tends to know things that others wouldn't and have a greater amount of empathy for a person with a less than stellar social life. That is empathy in the the understanding other sense not the power or "I empathize with you" sense. Everyone who knows him knows he has secrets, somethings he just won't talk about. Maybe that's why he's in Poe, the cottage where they put the people with issues they are dealing with.

To keep it easy the next song is We are Giants , by Lindsay Sterling.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

What, no specification that he's a FtM changeling? I thought that would be one of the obvious features given the inspiration song...

I think I see what you mean about keeping it easy though...

  • Maybe so, but I'm going to take a less obvious route than Giant Size Warper

Galvanizer: Exemplar Brick with a bravery aura - his presence encourages his allies and makes them braver and a bit stronger.

(Yes, I'm borrowing strongly from Sentinels of the Multiverse . But "Raise your flag; Let your voice be heard" and the general sense of the lyrics reminded me strongly of Legacy's cards .

The next song is maybe a bit stranger: My Shoes by the Bobs.

Feel free to post your idea as well. The more the merrier! I think that we should try and keep it to one "new" song at a time, but anyone who is inspired by an old song should feel free to post their idea.

… Apparently I was being to subtle. He is a male shifter, in Poe, with secrets, and a few features the are generally more associated with women.

Edit: also We Are Giants makes me think of shrinkers.

  • Well, given this , I guess having Youtube embeds are fine, but I think they should be spoilered so it isn't cluttering up?:

Attachments. Or video uploaded to the site and embedded.

Yes, embedded with a link to somewhere else probably won't be a problem, but it IS possible to upload something and embed it in a story (like the big explosion video clip at the end of Petra).

Meh? Just give someone Jade's powers, but restrict it to solid things that surround their feet, and the personality of the shoes is due to Alien hand syndrome or they Channel the spirit of a megalomaniac or something into their shoes.

    ...

Also, Instrumentals could work for this too... With instruments and timing and other things making variables to vary a powerset.

This is based more off of the graphics of the music video rather than the song itself, but it's what came to mind for me.

    Name: Leena Starr
Codename: TBD (currently favoring something to the effect of "Starforce")

    Powers: Esp-2/PK-5
Able to manifest either of two distinct astral forms, both of which are visible as bodies made of tiny motes of light. One is only about 5 inches tall and is completely intangible, but capable of flight. The other stands at 50 feet tall and is effectively a PK construct that she can control. Incapable of flight and always tangible. She can only astral project while her physical form is asleep, and her physical form is effectively baseline, putting her at a distinct disadvantage at Whateley. She's looking into self-hypnosis (like Jade), but even that isn't likely to help her much, as the limits of her two forms make them unsuitable for most situations, either due to size constraints or leaving her physical body vulnerable.

    Description:
She's a bit of a wild child, favoring bold colors and combinations in her attire (she really doesn't care for the Whateley uniforms) and never really seeming to sit still. She tends to speak her mind forcefully in most situations and is known for a sharp wit. What isn't known very well however is how much of this behavior is just a facade. As the third of five children in a middle class family, Leena very often found herself being overlooked by her parents and many of the other adults in her life. She tried her hardest in school, yet her youngest sister was always considered the smartest in the family. She was very good at soccer and basketball, yet her two middle brothers always outclassed her. And she even tried her hand at drawing and painting, but she found that she just couldn't compare to her oldest brother, who majored in graphic design in college. Even manifesting as a mutant hasn't gotten her much attention, given the limited nature of how her powers work. So she does her best to make up for it with pure force of personality, all while hiding just how overlooked and outclassed she feels, especially on campus with so many kids who have such cooler powers. She likes hanging out with the Hooligans, even though she can't come close to keeping up when they really cut loose.

    Codename: Tipsyspit
    Real Name: Nunno Yourbis Wax
Gender: We're not sure, and we're too scared to ask
    Real Age: 15
Apparent Age: either 9 or 90; we were unable to form a consensus
    Powers: ESP-2
    • Emotive inversion: Victims were unable to accurately express (through facial expression, body language, or tone of voice) their true emotions, instead expressing the opposite. They were still able to state their true emotions through speech.
    • Spatial inversion: Victims perceived up as down, left as right, forward as back, and inside as outside.
    • Memory inversion: Victims' access to memories while under the effect became inversely proportional to their normal accessibility. Things they had forgotten became clear, and things they normally remembered with ease were inaccessible. Procedural memory seemed to be largely unaffected.
    • Creepy voice: Victims were caused variously to wince, tremble, urinate, scream, or flee. The specific response seems to be tied to the individual. We're not sure if this is actually due to anything paranormal, but we're including it for completion.
Notes: Subject Tipsyspit seems to value mischief, contradictions, and hanging upside down from the most obnoxious places possible. We advise handling Tipsyspit in an oblique manner, as the more direct one attempts to be, the more of a nuisance the subject becomes. Do not attempt physical contact; attempts to keep the contact chaste and professional fail due to the subject's emotive inversion, resulting in severely negative behavior from the subject. While intentionally improper contact becomes expressed properly, subject Tipsyspit is aware of their powers and correctly deduces the improper intentions, resulting again in severely negative behavior. Vertically symmetrical foodstuffs seem to have a calming effect; Oreos, grilled cheese sandwiches, and powdered donuts seem to be most effective. Special care must be taken with regards to buns: using a top and bottom bun results in asymmetry and anti-calming effects. Indeed, the discovery of the bun asymmetry was a large factor in the accidental release of subject Tipsyspit into the wild. Attempts at reclamation are currently underway using traps baited with meatballs, which we theorize to have a superior degree of calming symmetry.

    Wiseman's Child

is a Light based Energizer with the ability to boost physical strength (primarily in his arms) for fighting and overcoming obstacles. The effect really adds a level of apparent muscle mass to his arms and upper torso, that makes him look somewhat awkward and unbalanced. He is also able to emit a powerful beacon of Light from the 'third eye' position on his forehead. Wiseman's Child has a psychological block based on a sort of innate/internal sense of naivity or 'wise fool' nature that prevents him from being able to tap his energy source without believing his cause to be 'right' and just. It is likely that he has at least a small amount of ESP or TP allowing him to read 'intention' because his power has prevented him from helping someone who was tricking him even though he was not consciously aware of it.

While at Whateley, WC (aka Chris Tagswith), works the evening shift in the Crystal Hall kitchens as a 'bus boy' and clean up crew. He spends a lot of time with the Dylans. Not into drugs himself, he finds an interesting sort of honesty in their drug addled discussions. Some of them, anyway.

    E.C. (Existential Crisis)
    a.k.a Ant Gonagan

Ant suffers from a powerful probability/space manipulation warping power that renders his/her existence variable. This power is dependent on Ant's confidence and self-awareness, which is lacking due to a poor upbringing. If Ant doesn't believe in his/her own existence, he/she becomes vaporous, and very difficult to notice or focus on. This compounds the problem. However, as Ant's confidence rises, his/her existence becomes MORE permanent than those around them, to the point on nigh-invincibility (at maximum self-confidence). Ant frequently visits a psychiatrist, who sometimes has difficulty knowing whether Ant is in the room or not.

    Neural Breaker

Breaker is an assassin with a pair of terrifying abilities. He's an electrokinetic and a shapeshifter. By touching someone Breaker can absorb the electrical currents of their body, allowing him (or her - like many shapeshifters Breaker's gender is fluid, and their original gender is unknown) to perfectly duplicate their body with her shapeshifter powers, and storing the electrical charge. The victim goes into shock and usually dies as a result, and Breaker can used the stored energy like an Energizer to become stronger and faster, and for electric blasts, although a such a blast requires gathering charge from multiple people. When highly charged Breaker's eyes glow, but otherwise he gives no sign that he is not the person being mimicked.

  • Okay I thought of this one a while ago but I wanted to wait and see if anyone posted a better one, because quite frankly this one is obvious.

    Matilda Jenkins/Instigator

Power, very obvious, pheromones that cause people to be more violent/unruly/rebellious. She doesn't have control over releasing them and more get released with her sweat.

Now the actual interesting part. She is a stickler for the rules. She follows them to the letter and get snippy when other people don't. Extrapolate from that the appropriate cliches such as being a neat freak and suddenly you have someone with more problems with there powers than a bee allergic to flowers.

All of that is not to say she doesn't have problems with authority, she is a teenager after all. She just doesn't fight it openly, a word here, a touch there, and suddenly someone else is fighting for her cause. Of course she had absolutely nothing to do with it, she even helped clean up after the incident was over. You could say her name is well earned.

Next up is a much harder song Light em up by fallout boy.

Secret-Finder, Hidden-(People)-Finder, Finds wishers within a certain radius, teleports to them, grants their Wishes, and then the wisher incinerates. If the wish takes too long to resolve, incineration happens after 46 minutes.

  • Well. The second one was actually much harder than the first one, since Youtube says that the video isn't accessible in my country. :D

But the first song doesn't seem all that difficult to me.

    Codename: Paris

A fairly average guy with a lust aura that makes him seem more attractive and desirable in every way. But the aura effects everyone differently, and is specifically fueled by jealousy. Specifically, the more jealous and suspicious you are that Paris is going to steal away your partner, the more your partner will be effected by the lust aura. (This works even if they're not your partner - as long as you are thinking negative thoughts of Paris having a relationship with someone, that person will feel the effects of his aura even if they have never met you)

For the next song, let's try an old favorite . :D

Yeah, I just thought of having the character be the other guy/girl/person instead of the speaker/singer, but didn't want to give hints.

    For your song:

A couple that's Bonded to each other, or something, Mental Linked, Possibly both are mind-controlled by the other to be loyal, and it's involuntary.

Can break through any barrier to get to each other. But, if bound together, can never leave the other through their own actions.

Funny thing is that I'm writing/have wrote a Bonded Couple, just today.

Try this, the video should work?

Ooh! Can I add that the pheromones are hallucinogenic if inhaled in large quantities? Thereby explaining the... strange interlude... in the middle of the song? (I must say, there's nothing more fun than playing the song for people who haven't heard it before and watching their reactions to that part. :D )

Of course she had absolutely nothing to do with it, she even helped clean up after the incident was over. You could say her name is well earned.

Next up is a much harder song Light em up by fallout boy.

Ooh! Can I add that the pheromones are hallucinogenic if inhaled in large quantities? Thereby explaining the... strange interlude... in the middle of the song? (I must say, there's nothing more fun than playing the song for people who haven't heard it before and watching their reactions to that part. :D )

I will admit I didn't listen to it all the way through the first time, listening again... Yeah that comes out of left field. Adding that is totally fine.

Also expect some Micro-scenes from me at some point. I plan on writing one for each character I make here, they should be up before easter if I don't get swamped with schoolwork.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

    Mine are adoptable too!

Also, Skye Sweetnam's Human is my next challenge.

  • Well the first one of the microscenes I have planned for my characters here is out. There are 2 more parts I'll write for him her, but only 1 for Instigator right now.

  • For Skye Sweetnam's Human

    This one practically writes itself...
Simon (I really tried to think of a different name but it is just too difficult)

Simon is a very expressive young man who have a powerful psychic area of effect. People who look at him find themselves mimicking his actions. He can work his way up from toe tapping and other small movements, and when he has people replicating his every move he can command them to do what he wants.
His power works through small TK particles that latch on to people and override their will a little more every time they let their guard down by copying another one of his actions.
Simon has to be careful in classes or by the end of the period he'll have four or five mind-slaves to deal with. It is possible for him to remove his particles from someone, returning them to normal.

  • Assuming all of these characters are in the same class would Matilda (my rebellion pheromone character) be an instant cure?

Simon makes people more suggestible and Matilda makes them more likely to act out.

Or possibly it could be the worst combination as Matilda's powers make Simon more violent and then the mind slaves start fighting ending up in an all out brawl because of 2 AOE emotion effects not mixing well.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • If Simon starts acting out, it will lead to others acting out as well. And they would be more likely to copy him if they were under the effects of Matilda, so.... yeah. Those two are like a riot in a tin.

    Ethereal

Ethereal is a density shifter who manifested under extreme duress, and managed to shift to fully incorporeal and get stuck there (fortunately, she doesn't seem to need any sustenance in this form). Subsequently she and her family became convinced that she was a ghost. The resulting attempts to exorcise her were... entertaining, but eventually they found a priest with actual mystical inclinations, who was able to tell that she was not, in fact, actually dead. She recommended Whateley to Ethereal as a place where she might learn to become corporeal again, but getting there was a bit of an adventure, since Ethereal couldn't travel faster than about 2 mph and was incapable of using any forms of transportation, and because when Ethereal became incorporeal, her clothes did not accompany her.

I'm not sure what to say about this next song, so I'll let it speak for itself .

    Abstraction

Abstraction is a unique warper/faux-mimic. He can alter, extend, or disable the active warping powers of others. For instance, he can touch density warpers that are 'intangible' by extending their field to include himself. He also has an odd esp-based way of sensing the world that (as his name suggests) is very abstract in nature, and leads to a very loose sense of personal space. He has gotten into the habit of activating space-warpers powers in passing to get around.
Conversations with him can get very confusing very quickly.
The range at which his powers are effective is frequently disputed, as it depends on many factors, most of which seem to have nothing to do with it.

  • I don't know why I'm adding to my workload with this as I have 3 more microscenes (really the last two parts of a three parter and 1 more) planned and writers block on the next one that is supposed to come up. Actually I do, I want to see what comes of the song

    Revelation (Luke Johnson)

First of all he is a light energizer but he is rather lacking on the dexterity side. He can't create lasers, illusions, or solid light, just flashes of light from low energy ultraviolet to high energy infrared (basically the outskirts of visible light). Although he can create light for extended periods of time it is very strenuous for him.
Secondly he has 2 uncontrolled esper traits. The first is precognition, he can see up to a few days into the future. He can only see events of personal significance to him or those around him while he has the vision. The second esper ability he has is a form of empathy that lets him know just what to say for people to avoid stagnation in there lives.
Note the uncontrolled descriptor above, he can not activate either ability on command nor choose for the ability not to activate. After being forced to use his either of his esper traits he feels compelled to seek out and tell the person the 'revelation.' Even if he was able to resis the compulsion he would not as he is rendered blind until he tells them. Both activate at random with out controllable input that the testers have been able to find.

He is a rather antisocial person because of his power. He dislikes being around people as he never knows when his power will activate, thus he never know when he will be a blind raving person for up to several days. He avoids crowds, strangers, and sometimes even social interaction with his friends. Despite this he has a large group of people who he is friends with, mainly people who he had helped with a revelation. Most are a bit over protective of him when they learn about his situation.

Enough students and heroes, let's get a villain in the mix, I'm The Boss by B3.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • Oh boy, villains! (can you tell I have a lot of free time yet?)
From I'm the Boss by B3

    Warghast

Warghast is a powerful mutant who can commonly be found in the middle of warzones. His specialty is finding the leader of the side he likes, killing them, and taking their place. When he gets tired of the routine, he will sometimes declare himself a third party and attempt to fight both sides at once. He does this with a combination of personal might and synthetic necromantic soldiers. A Warg soldier is created whenever his Regen-7 blood infects a fallen enemy, making them stronger and healing them, as well as overriding their personality to make them undyingly loyal to their lord and master Warghast. Aside from his regeneration and the mind-slave properties of his blood, Warghast is a high-level exemplar with incredibly tough skin that can stop small arms fire. On top of this he has an energizer trait that allows him to absorb kinetic energy from impacts on his person, and use that same energy to increase his own strength and speed further. He is NOT psychic null, but anyone who tries to get in his head is immediately assaulted by the legions of Warg who ARE and can detect such attacks on their master. The same applies to magic.
Although, once you get to know him, he really is just an incredibly talented individual who loves killing indiscriminately and placing himself in positions of power for the sake of his ego. As of yet, nobody has suggested a large-scale weapon to deal with him for 2 reasons. One, they aren't sure if it will work, and two, if it doesn't, he will turn his sights on the 'civilized' world.
Nobody feels like sending powerful mutants after him, because, well.... they might fall under his control and become a greater threat. Speaking of which, Warghast has several Devisor and Gadgeteer Warg that outfit his troops with all kinds of fun tricks. Only the best may serve Warghast.
(overpowered villain is overpowered, you get what you ask for I guess)

  • In case it wasn't clear, becoming a Warg grants high Regen, Psi null, and master-danger-sense in addition to rendering them loyal. Any powers and skills they had previously are retained, and they do not become Warghast clones. This isn't typical regen cloning.

    Based off this:

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth.
    Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.

Some girl that has Through The Eyes Of Madness and is with a hostage taker, and the auditory hallucinations are fake, while the visual hallucinations are expressing the real intentions of the speaker.

    Next song. GUMI - ECHO:

Nevermind, that's most likely a Time Stop or an Invisibility without Blindness Prevention, with a bit of hallucination. Based off the Fanfic about that girl that is an involuntary Superspeed Warper and/or Wallflower.

  • From Karma:

    Cascade

Cascade is an odds mangler. Her warping is about average, and not very controlled, usually. But she is also a Rager 3. When stressed by strong emotion or extreme danger, she can enter a rager state. Unlike the extreme violence that characterizes most ragers, her rage state appears emotionless and calm. Despite this, communication with her in this state is impossible just like with any other rager, and she has little memory of what happened afterwards. But her probability warping powers expand greatly in scope and power while she is raging, and she appears to gain near total control over them.

Next song: I am a Maiden, Cold and Stately from Princess Ida by Gilbert and Sullivan. Seems like a good Whateley song. Try to go beyond the obvious, though.

  • Okay, so here goes.... not obvious...
Based on I am a Maiden, Cold and Stately

This guy projects a psychic perception-altering field that makes those within it view others in the field as a different type of 'maiden' (but their perception of their own self is untouched). This includes the guy himself. The type varies from person to person, but a specific person will always be seen as the same type. However, the guy projecting the field can change his own image at will. It actually works as a very effective disguise, because it is impossible to see him as the same person when inside the field with him. It also makes it impossible to have a normal relationship. He has gotten into the habit of assuming anyone in his field is actually male, to avoid embarrassment.

Next song: Earthquake by Family Force 5 (I recommend the nightcore though)

So, he walks into a room, and everybody in it goes "Hey! Why did all the guys suddenly become girls?" I love it. :D

Now I really want to see a microscene where that girl who was dumping water on romantic couples in that one microscene recruits him to break up public displays of affection. You're kissing your boyfriend, and then this guy walks into the room and suddenly your boyfriend is a girl! Probably wouldn't work as well on the lesbian couples, though.

What kind of label to place on a relationship between two guys who both perceive the other as female? (Although really, this sort of thing is the point at which labels become stupid, and you just go with it.)

Well, one thing to remember is that it also effects the appearance of females within the field. Though, it is easier to recognize a girl because there are fewer perceived changes. So, when he walks in a room, everyone is like, "where did everyone go?" "suddenly there are girls everywhere.." then they might try to realize that these are the same people as before, but the field actively fights such thoughts.
Regardless, it would probably break up PDA because suddenly both people wouldn't recognize who they're making out with.

Personally, I think the most interesting aspect of the field is the change over a distance. For example, you see the guy from about 10 meters away, and recognize him, but as soon as you pass the threshold into his space, you can't find him. It takes a large amount of willpower or psychic null to even recognize him as a guy when you are close enough to talk to him.

If he was in a relationship with a guy, then from a certain distance, it would look like a gay couple, but up close they would look like a lesbian couple, but really they'd both be straight? And they wouldn't even be aware of who they are going out with.... I don't like to use profanity, but this guy's power is pure relationship mind****ery.

Sexual arousal makes Earthquakes in the area, or a PK Field that, on a dancefloor, is basically an Earthquake.

Although, with such a power, explaining why they'd be in a club in the first place is hard. Unless they suddenly manifest.

Or, it could be a psychic hallucination power that makes it seem like an Earthquake.

Perhaps it has a limited number of people it can affect, or only certain type(s) of people, or something. Perhaps the number of hallucinators, (and the power?) is random, or goes up the longer the power isn't used, or even experienced differently by different people in a way that doesn't correlate to psychic resistance.

  • From Kagerou Days

    Hustler

A conman and assassin with a psychic ability to convince other people that they have mutant abilities. Under his influence they will believe that they have powers, and be able to see those powers in action. Usually, when assassinating someone he will "give" them flying or invulnerability, and then watch as they attempt these powers and fail. But sometimes he gets creative. In one case, he convinced someone that they could see the future, and that the only way that they could save their friends was to sacrifice themself.

When not working as an assassin, he has a variety of cons using his powers. The simplest is to find a mutantphobe, grant them powers, and then approach them and offer to remove those powers... for a price, of course.

    Devilbond

This woman is nomadic, and very hard to pin down. She is a fairly powerful Avatar who plays host to a wide variety of unsavory spirits. At times she acts like a pirate (a real one, not the cartoon 'aaargh' kind), others a pickpocket, at a whim she becomes a rebel or a murderer. Despite this, or because of this, men are attracted to her, but she always leaves them behind. Those who fall for her this way are doomed to a kind of misery tailored to the spirit that was in control at the time. It haunts their thoughts and actions, often leading to them becoming a criminal of the same sort.
Her origins are unknown, but women with similar characteristics have been sung about in songs from the distant past.

Okay, next song..... uuhhh. Well, I just looked up a random song by lyrics so have fun

    Skinjacker Entity:

Sorta like Grrl Power Varia , but it's a spirit thing. It gets a different set of powers with each new host-thing. Transfer on Kill. YouKillItYouBoughtIt, or something. Perhaps some powers happen more than once.

    Previous Incarnation Powers:

Gaia-thing: Dragged a whole Jungle Underground:

The princess in her flowerbed / Pulled (the/a) jungle underground / Where cherry bombs stain the blackbirds red / And explosions never make a sound

Star Bomber: Drags Comets from space into Earth... Perhaps an Energizer fueled by those explosions... Midnight Mage?

Oh, comet come down / Kamikaze over me / And I come alive / My midnight melody / Oh, comet come down

Death Summoner: Summons a Familiar that looks like Death of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

My captain on the snowy horse / Is coming back to take me home / (Is coming back to take me home) / He'll find me fighting back the terrible force / 'Cause I'm not afraid to die alone

Current Incarnation: WaterFighter: Speedster, Energizer / Fire Mage:

Makes bigger fires with more water in location, perhaps also generally more power with more water in the area. Doesn't use up water. Water doesn't need to be liquid. ... So fighting him/her on the sea, is a really, really stupid idea, unless you're Mimeo, and trying to drown them is an even worse idea?

Well, drowning them in something that isn't water is fine.

Also, keen eyesight. Flight is enabled with enough water?

(Break down the open road) / Maybe I'll ride / (And fight back the undertow) / To save my life / (Bring in the ember glow) / Maybe I'll fly / (And go where you wanna go) / With an eagle eye

  • Well, your video wasn't available, Malady, but I found the song on Youtube anyways.

Matryoshka - a devisor who creates patchwork animated dolls. He refuses to let them be examined, so nobody is quite sure whether he's a bio-devisor pulling a Frankenstein or whether they are robots with some sort of AI, or if something weirder is going on. He insists on referring to them as Matryoshka dolls, which confuses people as they are almost, but not quite, entirely unlike Matryoshka dolls as far as anyone can tell. Nobody is sure whether he doesn't know what a Matryoshka doll is, just doesn't care, or if there's something about how the dolls work that makes the description more accurate than would appear on the outside. Each doll has its own personality, but generally they have the intelligence and personalities of young children. They generally regard Matryoshka as their parent, and he seems to regard them as his children, although he does have a tendency to use them as helpers and servants.

  • Ok, I got a good one for this.
    Anywhere Is, by Enya

    Travel

Travel is an astral projector/time warper/esper. They have the ability to send their mind out in an astral form, but with the added time-travel capability. The extent of their power is the problem. When they first manifested, they dreamwalked to an entirely different time and place, and now they can't remember how to get back. They have the ability to function as a spirit of sorts (kinda like Jinn, can work with an Avatar), but they have innate psychic abilities (telepathy, projective empathy, etc.) that prevent them from being trapped or taken advantage of in that sense. It's been so long they can no longer remember their original form, because their astral form changed every time they joined with a new person. By their own estimate, they have lived for over a hundred nonlinear years so far, and don't intend to stop anytime soon. They might sound like they would be good at history, but they usually have no clue what the year is, let alone what order various events happened.
For all we know Travel will never return to their original body.

uhm, new song.... tempted to google again, but will resist. I kinda want it to be a surprise what it is? So look in the spoiler.

  • Excruciwatt is a receptive empath and internal energizer whose strength, speed, and endurance increase when he feels pain, whether his own or somebody else's. His costume includes a set of artificial wings that permit him to flap his arms and fly when powered by enough suffering. This is helpful for air-lifting victims to the hospital. He tends to be most active in the bad parts of town, and many a gang member and small-time villain have nightmares of the winged hearts of steel on his gauntlets connecting with their faces as Excruciwatt swoops out of the darkness to return their pain.

    Stag:

Stag has severe GSD, looking like an enormous elk. He also has a powerful TK field that is capable of stopping bullets and allows him to fly. Unfortunately, although he retained his human intelligence, his GSD has left him unable to speak. His manifestation was complicated, to say the least, and resulted in him being driven from civilization. So far, all his attempts to communicated with humans since then have met with failure (and frequently hunting parties).

  • Well, nobody seems to like that song, so let's throw another song into the mix.

We'll probably get an interesting mutant from Tom Lehrer's I Hold Your Hand in Mine :D

From: I hold your hand in mine

Mark is a serious diedrick's case, having multiple attacks a week, that combined with his pet hand, the fact that he is a rager, a devisor and a minor aquakinetic makes him quite dangerous if provoked. His devises are mainly about lifesustaining (his pet hand is hooked up to the brain of a rat and acts like one), and he could be very succesfull was he not provoked multiple times throughout each project. He has created exactly one life sustaining devise without dricking out, and that one brought his father and mother and girlfriend back from near dead, though they are catatonic. They required the life sustaining devise after he had cut off their hands while stopping the blood from flowing out of the wounds during his manifesting as a mutant, when he was provoked. He also does not have the most common superpower.

The next song is a classic .

Two things you need to know about me:
    One, I'm not my characters, no matter how much I may sometimes act like them;
Two, I really like watching thunderstorms from inside the house, reading, gaming and sleeping.

  • "Alright, men," said Samwise to his Knights. "Be careful. This Heartburn guy's a real piece of work, a pyrophobic fire manifestor."

Bart snorted. "If he's so scared of his own ability, how's he supposed to be a threat?"

"Well, Bart, it works like this. First he shoots you with fire, and then he sees that fire, and he panics. So then he shoots everybody and everything with more fire, all while screaming about how he doesn't want to."

Ann spit in disgust. "I heard he cooked his own girlfriend alive on the night of their anniversary, right outside the Washington Monument."

"That is correct," said Samwise. "Some stunt gone wrong during his marriage proposal. It's where the phobia came from. Her name was Catherine, by the way, and he was absolutely dedicated to her. If he really starts to lose it, start calling him by his real name, James, and bring up Catherine. Might just shut him down with grief. Don't try it unless he's already lost it though, or it might just be what sets him off in the first place."

  • I'm tired of this thread being gone.

In response to 'know when to hit, know when to hold,' I give you Black Jaq.

Powers: probability warper 2, devisor 3 [cowboy(girl) aesthetic], exemplar 2.

Appearance: dark skin, short curly hair (not quite dreadlocks) that go to just a bit below the chin, different coloured eyes (one red one black).

Casual: she wears loose casual t-shirts and sweats or cargo pants. Occasionally she wears slacks but always wears modest clothing. Attests to hating high heels, hats, and revealing or tight clothing. Wears contacts to change the colour of her eyes.

Costume: she wears a cowboy hat, tank top, open vest, jeans, boots (see below), three belts all linked to the same buckle, a bandana over her mouth, and a classic domino mask with trailing cloth ties behind her head. All of her clothes are tight except for the vest. She bears her midriff. Everything but the tank top and bandana has sequinned beads (seel below). Her belt buckle is also her symbol, a star with a stylized 21 in it.

    Equipment:
"Silver": a large mortorized horse that she rides on the job. Built in saddle with stirups. The VI has the ability to aim and fire the gun inside the head (the mane is actually ammo). Has storage capacity in chest and stomach for stolen proprty. Can fly but lacks the lift to carry off large loads.
Boots: high heeled hover boots with spur wheels to drive her forward. These let move quickly, her scale walls, and boy howdy do you not want to be kicked by them.
Belt buckle: is a basic forcefield generator with limited power supply. She can increased the force fields strength in exchange for battery life.
Sequins: all of the sequins are forcefield relay units to help spread the load of the belt buckle evenly over her body. This saves on battery life because the field does not have to be shaped by the buckle.
"Alan": hangs in her left side holster. This rail revolver has a number of different ammos it can fire from explosives to homing shots to goo blasts.
"Alda": hangs in her right holsterr. This 'laser' revolver has a number (six) of differnent effects it can fire including a freeze ray and dazzling effect. The effects are determined by cores loaded into the revolvers chamber which burn out after one use.
"Piano keys": this multi-purpose rifle normally hangs from Silver's saddle. It can fire normal rounds, larger versions of the specialty rounds that Alan fires, or sonic blasts. The sonic blasts can be focused or spread out depending on the setting.

Modus Operendi: a very flashy villain Black Jaq generally rides in guns blazing creating as large a ruckus as she can. She tends to steak electronics but is not opposed to holdingup banks or jewlery stores. She hires thugs on occasion outfitting them low quality versions of her guns. She is hard to ignore which is why she makes her living selling her services as a distraction, drawing police and heroes into prolonged chase scenes and battles away from where the actual villains are pulling a job.

Sticking to the cowboy theme the next song is Cowboy Casanova by Carrie Underwood.

PS. Next time could you ease up on the dificulty or provide a video with lyrics? I had a hard time making this one because half of the lyrics are in like one 30-45 second portion of the song.

PPS. I am possibly running a super hero rpg campaign soon and I wanted to ask permission to use some of the characters here as villains. They come with in built theme music.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • Yeah, that song was a bit tricky.

Yeah, go ahead and use my characters, just give credit where it's due!

    ...

Well, for that prompt, I've got a powerset and slight description, but no codename:

Basically he's an Exemplar, ESPer, Siren. ... Or he's a vampire. ... Or Both??

He's blue-eyed, only comes out at night, has entrancing eyes, and some kind of addictive aura, sort of like Domoviye's Glitch's love spray... That sounds soo Vampire, that I think everything else is trying to mislead me!

Perhaps he believes his own lies for a while, because he's a Siren that's not immune to his own power, letting him be a better actor.

Blond, blue-eyed Adonis, maybe toss in an addictive ESP 'Positivity towards me" field as well... Sort of like.

  • Oaken Hart

“God, why have you created such trash?”

Bobby'd heard it enough times, behind his back, though sometimes to his face, that he needn't have no mind-reading skills to ken the looks in peoples' eyes. It was just something that came through like a repeat song on the AM radio, always in the background, never going away. Lord knows there were enough times he wished he could just go away, and stop making his momma cry those evenings when his poppa had to work extra shifts to put food on the table. Medicine for his broken heart they said, and medicine to fix what the other medicine didn't set right.

"Beyond that there’s a shining world spreading
While sleeping my dreams and my hopes too are being sucked in"

Probably what come to hurt the most was the teachers that tried too hard to get him and the other kids at school to try harder to remake their words and their dreams more like the kids in places where everyone had a decent job and their hearts didn't sink to see them falling further behind the rest. Those teachers, they came and they went. They never did stay round these parts unless they ended up in a pine box. One he heard about, though he wasn't supposed to, was said to be a mutant though some of the older boys said he didn't smell no different than a smoked pig once they were through. No better even than that sickly Watson kid.

Bobby didn't eat pork much after that.

"Someday, I’ll end up being sucked into the light too and then disappear
And I’ll wear an angel’s hoop, throwing away all my memories"

That summed up what little as Bobby'd ever got from Vacation Bible School. The pastor and everybody else seemed so intent on the dying and going to heaven part, but were a lot more more quiet on how they planned to get there. Bobby could look some of them in the eye and tell they knew they wasn't aimed toward heaven from this dying town. Some of them, he'd bet if he had the money, were wondering if he'd burn like trash in a barrel or smoke like a pig in a pit.

"I can’t even stick the key of my heart’s door very well
The wound that is shining in the blue light of the moon hurts
I haven’t even been able to say that person’s name for a bit"

Some whispered that it was too damned strange that Watson boy lived to see his thirteenth birthday and his parents didn't. Others didn't understand what folks was thinking, sending that child off to some back hollow to scatter his parents' ashes, afraid they'd pollute consecrated ground. As if it were still consecrated what with some of the folk as had been buried in that church yard. And in a hundred years we'll all be the same, saints and sinners alike, won't we? Maybe not, but ain't no one'll miss some half-dead brat if he had an accident in the woods, like his father had on the road. Come the day, God will know his own, now won't he?

"If the stars make a fuss, the earth will break down
The sky’s fragments are going to downpour like glass
If I try to know it all my body will get pierced
And even that heart that I've longed for and loved will be torn apart"

Now some stories go that them first peoples weren't necessarily the first one around here, just moved in long after the hills and valleys lay vacant. Sometimes someone might be digging in a field, or just looking for arrowheads after a good rain, and find some huge bone or another from some antediluvian times. Great and wondrous some of them beasts looked in the library books that Bobby'd tried reading once or twice. Books as weren't meant for poor trash like him and his kin. That just reminded him that they say we don't just lie in the cold earth, but come back again and again until we get our lives right. Maybe he'd just continue fading like a xerox copy of a xerox was supposed to do.

    "Even if I’ll be reborn,
surely, to you, I’ll just be a repetition"

From where Bobby now stood, looking ahead from a hilltop for the hollow his mama's people were said to be buried where they couldn't disturb God-fearing church folk, he was pretty sure he'd be finding out one way or the other. He could feel hateful eyes on him, some human, some not so much. He took the path down, wondering if it were the first time or the hundredth. If the old stones, wet decaying leaves, and ancient trees had an answer to that they sure were holding their tongues against the twinned pains in his chest.

"I can’t even stick the key of my heart’s door very well"

What of it? It's rare that any of Adam's children manage that.

"If the stars make a fuss, the earth will break down
The sky’s fragments are going to downpour like glass"

Bobby never heard a shot ring out, nor the twang of a bow-string. The forest around the boy closed in and muffled all sound. Or maybe it was just a ringing in his ears, one that went with the heaviness in his chest that always meant more doctor's bills. By now the path merely drug him along scattering pieces of his thoughts and memories behind him, nourishing those that had silently stayed on.

"If I try to know it all my body will get pierced
And even that heart that I've longed for and loved will be torn apart"

Then let that heart rest little one, rest under the evening sky.

Bobby knew it would soon get dark, but he was so very tired. He set out the cheap cardboard boxes and their precious cargo. Somehow it seemed fitting to lay down at the roots of the oldest oak he'd ever seen, and watch the sunset colors through barren limbs, cathedral glass windows opening to the sky, so much more colorful and beautiful than the trailer park and waiting room life he'd led, something he'd give anything to hold onto and bring back to set against that dreary world. A world that grew dark even as the tree's roots searched for something nearly lost, and mingled with unburied bones.

"If this is what you wish for, then I won’t be lost anymore ...
... If this is your last desire then there’s nothing to fear anymore"

By the time Bobbie Lee Watson walked back out of that backwoods hollow for the last time, there were a mite bit fewer H1 boys parading themselves about. The spirit they now carried reminded them that the old earth's court may not be what it once was - it never was that, in any case - but some things just need not be left to fester and rot the world around them. In that, all were well in agreement.

That being so, trees recognized the practical in most things, standing strong against some things, bending to others. Broken-hearted Robert Earl Lee Watson may have been disappeared, but Bobby Lee had other plans. Some day that ancient dryad they'd carried back out to the world might follow the lost boy into light. Maybe a hundred years from now, or not. They'd both learned a measure of patience. For now, they'd learn more about the wide, broken, jewel of a world they found themselves in. They'd not be lost, and they'd not be afraid.

    Any more.

Powers: Sure, the returning Sidhe may style themselves the lords and ladies of the world, but the world remembers other Faerie races as well. An Avatar-3, receptive empath, shamanic healer, and Shifter- well, that remains to be seen. Stands and stones have many varied memories, some include claws and teeth. A surgeon's scalpel is sometimes too precise, after all.

Appearance: They'd traded in pale thin skin for a deeply tanned reddish-brown, home-trimmed mousy brown hair for long, straight, almost mahogany hair. Wider hips and shoulders, and somewhat heavier than any exemplar's American Idol dream, but healthily beautiful in spirit and wisdom and, of course, the ability to bear and raise up her children.

Mixer: A projective empath. The strength of the emotions they project is proportional to the strength of the emotions that the target is currently feeling, so the target usually ends up feeling a mixture of their current emotions and the projected ones.

(Inspired by the fact that the singers in that song seemed to be partying very angrily.)

  • That song is great.

Hōrō-sha Confundido was not always a traveler. For that matter, he wasn't always a man. Born a female kangaroo in the lab of a villain from West Virginia, Hōrō-sha Confundido has seen many places and done many things since the accident. Fitting into human society has been difficult, even with his new body, but he's sure he'll find a home eventually. It has taken a great deal of trial and error to decipher the humans' rules, but he figures he must understand most of them by now. He'd better, anyway, because he's running out of states that will admit him. How was Hōrō-sha Confundido to know that giving a horse a pouch was taboo? And the less said about Tennessee, the better. The barber shops of California were fun, but too pointy. Maybe he should hop over to Oregon once the landlord gets the locksmith to fix the door at this "jail" place he's been sleeping at. Their food is pretty good, but the roommates are kind of needy and the doors get stuck a lot. Or maybe head south again. They were super friendly over in Florida. Not like these clingy Illinois creeps. Yes, it's time for Hōrō-sha Confundido to leave Illinois, as soon as they get that door open. They usually manage it by morning, and he's not gonna wait around to let them talk him into staying longer like he did before. He's just going to hop off to where he parked his trusty Nissan van, hit the road, then figure out the rest as he goes.

    ---

And speaking of vans, it's time for a tribute to Matt Foley:

I'm not sure I got all the lyrics right, but here's my best shot at them:

  • Name: Firecracker

Powers: pyrokinesis, empathy, and has a glamour. Her pyrokinesis runs off of psychic energy she gets from her empathy specifically sexual attraction. Her glamour is like Fey's "I want to have sex with her" glamour. Yes she runs into feed back loop issues.

Personality: she is relatively volatile emotionally speaking. Part of it coming from her quick temper and part of it from not having full control of her glamour and empathy. Because of the feed back loop issues she is more sexually active than Fey bun not to the point of nymphomania.

  • If you were to ask his Ma, Beauregard Ashton St. James O'Shea's first love in life must have been bluegrass music - the more fiddlin' the better - but mischief ran a close second. Sad to say, neither of the two brought in enough to pay the bills, so he'd go off whenever he could (he still had studying to do if he didn't want to follow in his good-fer-nothin father's ways, whoever he was), to find what work or odds and ends as might earn a boy some money.

Since last spring, the boy'd taken to wearin a cap wherever he went, with a sprig of clover (four-leafed if you looked close) and a couple of other herbs as ol' Granma Thierry taught him. With that bit of oddness, no one bothered looking in the boy's eyes for nothing. Bo'd been going to see to her chores right regular. The old lady never had much to pay him back but with maybe a chicken or lessons on the fiddle, and a few things he'd never bother his Ma with worries over. She did worry, as she knew Granma Thierry wouldn't have no chores left to pay to have done come fall.

As August dragged on, hotter'n hell and a whit or two more, one day saw Bo gathering up his fiddle, the books he kept well-hid, a measure of corn meal, chalk, graveyard dust, and a chicken that wasn't meant for his own family's meals, and hiking on up to Black Top Ridge to try his luck.

The next day, he shows up at his Ma's doorstep with his prize, one he'd be hard-pressed to get an honest appraisal of in those parts (save over his cold and dead body). He packed what little he had he could take with him, kissed her on the cheek and assured her she'd be hearing from him next at a school in New Hampshire.

    Johnny Aces
    Esper-3 (Paragon), WIZ-3
    Equipment: "Golden" fiddle
Techniques: Uses music as a focus for extended magics, and as a Paragon he's damned good at the music he plays. Likewise, using his magical skills, he can make his fiddle sound like any instrument(s) he's familiar with - much like a Siren. He's also familiar with roots and other folk magics.

Some say he must have struck a deal with the Devil to turn his luck around. Johnny just smiles at his naysayers and lets his playing prove who's better. Enough have lost wagers here and there to pay his way to a good school and keep food on the table back home.
