If you're interested in doing some writing, there's a number of options available to you. If you're not an experienced writer with a solid plan on what you want to work on, you might want to start out in our Workshop forums... they're the ones with the naming scheme that reflects in the in-universe creators and makers from the gadgeteer/devisor programs: The Tool Room, The Workshop, The Order of the Worn Wrench, the Fabrication Lab and Project Discussion.

The Tool Room is a resource location, listing stuff for writers... software, reference sites, and general advice.
The Workshop is the primary OOC section for authors to chat with each other while working on projects.
The Order of the Worn Wrench is a closed section, only available to those who have officially petitioned for and received status as WhatIF authors. Which isn't hard, really... mainly just a matter of PM'ing me. A private area for more advanced authors.
Fabrication Lab - is the place where writers just getting started post stories in parts. Only the author posts here.
Project Discussion - is where people offer comments and feedback on stories posted in the Fab Lab.

We mostly recommend that if you're writing for the purpose of just being creative, that you post in the forums. Especially if you don't have much intention to do a lot of editing or you intend to significantly revise the story based on feedback.

If you have a more coherent goal or are working with a larger story (or have been posting in the forums for a while and want to move to something 'bigger'), we have the WhatIF story process. Whateley Independent Fiction is non-canon stories that are at, above, or approaching the quality of the canon stories... just happen to be written by non-canon authors or about characters or concepts that cannot be canon due to contrary mechanics or plotline conflicts (a canon author might write something WhatIF simply as a result of wanting to write the idea even though they know the characters can't be in that place at that time because of other events). WhatIF stories use the site's content management system and are published in a sidebar list and in the Stories collections just like canon stories are.

There's plenty more detail about the process(es) for things down in the writer forums, and feel free to ask questions. If one of the other writer types doesn't get you an answer, someone on the staff will help you out.
