  • In January I posted an intro that I gave the title of No One Wants to be Different. I'd like to offer this story up for adoption if there is an author who would like to work with it. I'm looking at it again and just know I've done everything wrong in the story but hope someone is interested in taking it further. I suspect it will be like the hundreds of other stories on my hard drive if someone doesn't adopt it. That is it will never be finished. Of which I'm ashamed...

  • Don't be too hard on yourself. I myself an a horrible writer when it comes to actually getting down to writing, and all the rules of writing, but I plug away at it because I'm an idea girl. I have ideas and I hate for them to never see the light of day

  • if I didn't have literally hundreds of false starts I'd feel better. 'That one didn't work either, and I don't know why exactly...'

  • maybe you need a sounding board or collaborator to help you. I'd volunteer, but if I had all of Anomaly's hands, they'd still be full.

I can barely keep a single narrative on-track. Even when the adderall's working. So my OCs started in the Micro-Scenes as an equivalent of Statler and Waldorf using a Shadowrun character and an NPC of mine. It would be soooo much simpler if Chekhov's Hampsters didn't keep breeding.

Short bits that build out the world a little - maybe even only one scene - may feel "incomplete" , but is that much different from reading a poem or short story and thinking "I want more of this"?

    Forum-posted ideas are freely adoptable.

Truth. What does "complete" mean? It could be setting up a character for later, and then your next snip is years later, when they're a superhero, or something.

If you have tons of snips, then import some together? I've got characters that I reuse 'cause I haven't published anything with them.

With a detailed enough world, stories just flow.

If you've got a mutant, they're gonna encounter the MCO, unless they don't for some unusual reason.

What's their powers? How does that affect their life? How do they get to Whateley...

Enough setting detail and things just flow. The problem then becomes getting it down and online. Instead of "Where am I going?", it becomes "Where am I gonna find the time to get 'this' down?"

I'd certainly like to have a collaborator if someone was willing. Yeah Anomaly's hands and a prehensile tail as well...!

  • Ok, you said you have multiple ideas that are kicking around that might not get done. Introduce some of them in their own chapters of the story, Send Jason on the run from someone. Have him encounter them to introduce them into your personal canon. He can travel with them, or get help from them in cameo form at crucial moments. Send him ( or them) on a life or death race against time and maybe a shared adversary (H1 or rogue villain or MCO are easy) then you can kill off the ones you don't like, improve or bolster the ones you do. You ever see Escape to Witch Mountain? Not the one with The Rock, but the old one? Cross country race to get to safety ( Wateley).
    Just an Idea.

  • a little more help for you on the Idea I mentioned last time. Witch Mountain ,
In the same way those kids go on the run, your protagonist can go on the cross-country trek to Whateley. there She can meet other of your characters, ones who can be friend or foe, who can join her on the trip, or help out at a key point.

  • That is an interesting idea. One reason that I'm offering this for adoption is that I'm out of work and see very little chance of returning to work so expect to be homeless or worse soon.

  • Is there any chance you can apply for disability or Social Security-disability? I'm currently out on disability from a stroke I had.

  • Umm... I would be more then willing to try and write this story. I think it could be really fun but I would need to know some basic things.
IE what spirit she bonded with, is there a set identity for the girl who picked her up or should I improvise. If there is a general direction you want the story to go or if I can fill in bits on my own...
In any case, look for the international squatters symbol, public libraries will usually let you stick around for a while- they let you use their computers sometimes and they are usually warm/cool plus they tend to have water fountains for clean drinking water. Shopping carts are your best friend for storing things, trash bags are waterproof and some places give them away. They make good rain ponchos and are good for keeping any electronics from getting wet. (I know at least one person who values their laptop more then anything else in their life.)
Get a good knife if you can, those things are really really freaking useful for making shelter, opening things, scaring off wild dogs or coyotes and most Walmart's or similar stores will sell them to you for 15$ or less. Mouse traps are good for catching small animals for food but be sure you know how to clean them well and avoid eating vermin in anywhere but the most rural areas as they carry disease. The inside of pine bark is edible though not very tasty, dung can be burned for fuel. If you can get a camping water filter and some way to store clean water- trust me on this unless you live somewhere where there are public water fountains clean water is going to be a lot harder to get then most people think. If you have to drink from unknown water sources stick to flowing water and avoid anything with visible particulate matter or anything on top of it- your digestive system will thank you for it. Since it's around Christmas time keep an eye out for discarded fruit cake- it keeps for a very long time and is calorie dense enough to keep you going. You are not super likely to find any unless you go digging through people's trash, but the dried fruit usually included as an ingredient will help prevent scurvy.

  • Thank you for your suggestions. I'm not sure I want to do the research necessary to have Jazz run. I may or may not. Currently she is convinced she will have to. Hopefully someone will convince her to at least wait a bit. She is an elf (sidhe) without any means of support in the center of a large city... Which city I haven't decided yet. So she probably can't get clothes she is not allergic to. Also she is at least sensitive to cold iron, untelling what her reaction to being wounded by an iron knife will be! But it wouldn't be pretty. So, hopefully, as I said, she will listen and at least wait for a bit, until she has something more than a hospital gown to wear!

  • Ohhh... I thought you were talking about Nowhereville on here, not the other story. That one sounds interesting too though. The suggestions were because you said you might end up homeless.

  • Well if I don't find work soon I'm going to be surviving on 20% VA disability. I may, possibly be able to move back to my parents place. But... IDK. The big issue for most of the year where I live now is the sun...
