  • I created this for my Magic School Universe...I was TRYING for a sketch but this is what came out instead...I can also see if happening in the Whateley Universe.

Hāremumono or Harem Syndrome (Sometimes referred to as MC or Main Character Syndrome)

This new syndrome is said to have originated in Japan, although there is some argument of whether the first cases began in the Shinjuku or the Akihabara Districts.

From all appearance it appears to be a Quantum-binding/gestalt/resonance centered on an individual(Although sometime multiple gestalts hetrodyne), this individual becomes surrounded by two or more suitors of the (usually) opposite gender(s) the gestalt often empowers the center even if he has no latent or magical talent (If nothing else the center gains increased stamina up to "Iron Butt-Monkey" levels)

Suitors also find that any latent, active or innate abilities become more powerful. The Suitors also start to display a Stockholm Syndrome-like obsession with the Center. Unlike Stockholm Syndrome however the Suitors remain capable of freewill and can break away if there is a clear dismissal by the center or if the center strays too far the suitor's moral code. Interviews with Suitors liken it to an Ear-worm that resonates with feelings of heat/rut/lust/master/submissive/sibling-like bonds to the Center. The syndrome also increases the aggressiveness and competitiveness of the suitors.

Known Phenomena Associated with Harem Syndrome:

    Morals Realignment(Rare)
    Sexual Orientation Shift
    Increased Stamina(Extremely Common)
    Spontaneous Sexual Reassignment(Uncommon)
    Attraction of other Quantum Syndromes
    Libido Overdrive(Common)
Random Tentacle or (Clothing Devouring) Slime Attacks (Uncommon)

The sudden outbreak and spreading of this syndrome have prompted several Countries/Prefectures/States to include special polygamy dispensations to Local/Country/State Laws to Legally and Medically Provable sufferers of this condition, if only to keep the collateral damage and casualties to a minimum.

  • Actually we already see something simular in effect with T-bird. And Danny it appears isn't far behind. Except his harem is growing far larger if he were ever to act upon it.

  • While the Drow are arguably a harem in search of a subject.

    And that is Jobe's fault.

in the Whateley Universe I believe the collective term for a group of Drow is a "harem". ;)

I was thinking the proper name for a grope of Drow would be "party". It just fits on so many levels.

It's said that he has bin getting action while at Whateley. It's Wonder Cute that's the problem. They don't want him as a boy friend but as a catgirl mascot.

Jade, Molly, Bunny, and Anna all have S/Os. That only leaves Misty and Lindsey. Does Danny really want to date the daughter of Devilmaster? Or Misty?

But is a party not more often the antagonists of Drow? :-p

I propose it be called a Deception.

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Lindsey is a sweetheart and might go well with Danny?

Misty... can anyone actually keep UP with Misty? Even Jadis struggles with that, and Jadis has incredibly high tolerance and mental speed both.

Actually makes me ask if anybody has seen any boys taking interest in Misty? She has the looks to earn attention, but being Jadis's roommate could accidentally be throwing a wrench into her prospect without Jadis OR Misty realizing it.

I'm convinced that Misty is at least partially faking her personality. I think Jadis suspects the same. (edit: Like she's actually a Ditz-2, but dials it up to Ditz-6.) The way that girls pretend they're not nerds in high school because of peer expectations. She makes Jadis and others drop their guard around her, and open up more. She's the one that puts Wondercute into hyper mode. Nobody takes her seriously, but it is impossible to not have a good time around her unless you're super stoic and overly serious.

There's not a lot of evidence, because she doesn't show up that often and very rarely has gotten a POV, but sometimes Misty acts a little too focused and direct.

She's not up to anything nefarious or anything, but when you really think about it, we know almost nothing about her and very little of it has been verified in subsequent stories.

So obviously I would support Misty and Danny, but Danny and Ros is obviously way better.

  • Misty's personality might be an act. Jadis still has trouble keeping up with it, and it's supposed to be an act.

Other possibility - Misty has an esper power

Third possibility - She really is that hyper and bubbly and nice and friendly and just isn't actually stupid. The personality type is typically associated with lesser intelligence, but nothing strictly says she actually HAS to be dumb, or that she can't be both fairly smart AND that hyper/happy/bubbly/etc.

Where can I buy more of that stock? Misty's actions during the shoping trips in Boston and New York clearly show she can ask smart questons, and she can certainly held her own in pitched situations. It makes me think about Sunburst.

Speaking of her, I'm trying to imagine Nacht's springbreak with her and Gloriana. I mean, if I remember it right, she wants the Capes to rush Jadis and a 'weenie crap' (Magni-Girl's words) in Odds and Ends part 2, and I think she could be talking about Nacht. And any story leading to Gloria wanting to put Nacht on a superhero road must be well worth the read.

It was in the Sims, it was Gunny's idea of teaching Wondercute some humility. It almost broke up Wondercute and Star League Jr.

  • Probably "Chaka." She doesn't keep an harem per se, but she does have Riptide on the side of Thunderbird, and there's a number of guys who keep hitting on her despite her telling them clearly that she's not interested -- like Jolt, and Mace (who can't wrap his tiny minds around the fact that she's happy dating a white boy) and Dredz (who can't wrap his mind around the fact that she's already dating someone).

But then, by that criteria, Fey also has both a boyfriend (Stalwart), a girlfriend (Bunny) and a legion of fans/suitors (too many to count, including some she has never actually met).

Chou has only two, (well, she's pretty cute -- she might have a couple of other suitors too) but what makes her case notable is that they ARE actively dating and they DO know about each other.

And then, in Gen2 there's Kenshin... who is not dating anybody, but not for lack of trying on the part of the girls.

Oh, and let's not forget Kayda. Let me see, Debra, Roz, Lainie... yeah, I think if Chaka can be counted, she also can.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • I'd say Fey and Chou are in open relationships, and not a harem. Chou's is kind of specifically a loving threesome.

Sara definitely had a harem going.

Jobe's vision for drow harems is anything but enjoyable for the male. "Shared" in the same way roommates share a microwave or a hair dryer. Hopefully it was cleaned up after use or was left in generally the same spot.

Remember that Jobe considers Greasy to be the 5th best chemdevisor at Whateley, although what Bugs is doing on that list I'm not sure. (Jobe is obviously first.)

Squirrels Mouth wrote: Jobe went on, “Of course you’re thanking me. It’s only natural. But I’m not interested in your little problem. I’m busy with my own projects right now. I just don’t have the time. But try Hazmat. If he can’t get the job done, try Bugs, then Telomer, then Greasy, or even Erlenmeyer if you’re really desperate.” Then he stepped into his private lab and slammed the door in her face.

Bugs totally belongs on the list. All those fancy grenades that Ayla is always buying are primarily chemical in design.

  • Bugs has studied eggs in depth, having cited their structural strengths many times. it could be said she also probably knows a thing or two about bio divising in eggs and early stage cellular structuring.

Imaging Bugs engineering artificial bio-devise eggs that explode and release toxins or nerve agents or something.

only problem is Jobe would steal one and engineer a chicken that would lay them, and reproduce via other methods.

so the egg came before the chicken.

  • I always took Bugs to be one of the better all-around Devisors/Gadgeteers of the original canon, along with Belfatso (Belphy is number three then I guess). Bugs just has a few quirks like preferring the egg shape and not knowing which creation is a devise and which is reproducible.

Pretty much all of Jade's things were made by Bugs, to hide the J-team's existence.

That Jobe respects her that much is a pretty glowing compliment.

in the Whateley Universe I believe the collective term for a group of Drow is a "harem". ;)

I was thinking the proper name for a grope of Drow would be "party". It just fits on so many levels.

I don't think people are discounting her abilities as a devisor, just that Jobe thinks that highly of her as a BIO-deviser.In all honesty, as far as Belphegor goes, I think he could be rated higher than most people give credit for, if not for the fact that he's lazy. I mean he could make brilliant things like his chair, but most of the time his laziness gets in his way and he resorts to theft.

Actually Belphegor is one the most impressive Devisors around. Not only does he, occasionally, make his own things, he takes devises made by others and not only uses them, but modifies them and keeps them functional! It would be scary to let him near some of the powerful, but nonfunctional devises, he might be able to fix them.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying that his inherent laziness gets in his way of being considered higher than he is. True he can hijack the work of others and work on it, but that gets him on all their sh*tlists. If he made more of his own impressive things, and stole less, they would probably have a higher opinion of him... hygiene and slovenliness not withstanding.

No. What Aquerna needed was not a biodevisor, was someone competent enough in organic chemistry to synthesize a known organic compound on demand. Jobe considered the task too pedestrian for himself. He gave his list of recommendations based on general competency on the chemical lab, not on anything related to mutant powers.
Hazmat IS a very competent organic chemist, but he doesn't seem particularly high on the gadgeteering scale (I mean, his biggest success is a depilatory, which wasn't what he set out to create) and might be even a zero on the devisor scale, since all his creations seem strongly grounded in real-world chemistry. Yet he was on the top of Jobe's list. Jobe probably sees Hazmat as a very good potential lab assistant -- not particularly creative, but give him a task and he will do it to perfection.

You missed the point. Devises are in general not fixable, repairable, modifiable, changeable, and sometimes not even usable by other people. But Belphatso uses and modifies devises, gadgets, and whatnot willy-nilly not caring who made it or what its original purpose was.

Belphoebe was cloned using a partially completed cloning tank that Belphegor finished building, a modified "Metal Fatigue Inducer" reversed to prevent the clone from dissolving into goo, Knicknack's doohicky to copy the memories, and a few other things. This is not something that other Devisors can do.

And thank God for Jadis, because the only reason Belphy is a seemingly functional nice person who hasn't gone into a screaming tear of destruction, hatred, and vengeance is thanks to Jadis.

Belphy is REALLY good, even Jobe acknowledges this in his own way. They share lab space and I don't think we ever actually hear Jobe accurately criticize anything Belphy makes or works on, while Belphy is allowed to touch, examine, and assist Jobe's own work frequently.

you could be really sadistic and have him meet a girl that is the avatar of something that is a normal food of his spirit. For that matter, you could introduce him to Psydoe and give the girl even MORE issues.

Feral has never been really explored, with Liliandra disappearing and everything, but in the "Wild Times" excerpts she HAS been seen to shift into the form of a mountain lion (it's not really clear in those story fragments, but it's suggested that she has more than one animal form). Could be an... interesting meeting...

But... Tansy is so happy that Kayda is her friend now, I don't think that she would screw that up by going after Danny, who is younger and more than a little Naive. I'm still hoping Danny's friend Cassie ends up at Whateley.

  • You've all got it wrong, Teri is going to make Danny part of her harem. She just needs to find some other really cute guys to join him in the worship of her.

  • Tansy could be a yes and a no. She did sleep with him back in her evil skanky days, but now she's more trying to be Kayda and Lanie's friend, and unless she got permission now, Lanie would smack her around.

  • I actually thought that she was basically in a menage-a-trois with them... Elaine and Cody. And the only reason that it doesn't include Kadya is that she's literally Penophobic because she was gang raped.

Deborah gets really jealous and hurt when Kayda sleeps with someone else, even when it isn't intentional. It's something Ros mentioned too, so it isn't a recent thing with her.

  • no, bad! Tansy would break him. Unless he was in kitty girl form, and had help from his spirit.

oops, I was thinking of Kayda and Danny, for some reason... carry on, nothing to see here.

*hits NJM1564 with anime mallet* Stronghold is in a loving relationship with Mega-Girl and they are still together in Gen 2. Besides, it is Kayda's brother who has a crush on Tansy.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

  • What proof do we have that Megs and Stronghold are still together in Gen 2?

They were double teaming Baron Blitzen pretty hard in The Road To Whateley...

Suddenly a flying car zoomed in over head, accompanied by a man and a woman who were flying. He had red hair to her flowing blonde tresses and they were both in blue with capes on his chest was a stylized SH and hers a matching MG. “Empire City Guard!” Stronghold shouted. “Nobody move!”

It's obvious that they hate each other, what with being on the same team, the matching costumes and everything.

We leave politics at the door here. There are folks across the entire political spectrum who come here to enjoy the stories. And so we all agree to pretend there is nothing but these stories. Because if we don't it will rapidly start to look like, well, the rest of this crazy world with people shouting at each other and we come here to get away from that. Your future discretion is very much appreciated.

    Thank you.
